Get the real thing. The Subydude will break 10 times over before the real thing would. After paint it's what, $150 or so difference?

Nope. The Subydude one is fiberglass, the real one is ABS plastic which is far more durable. I'm a college student who spent $500 on a V2. It eventually broke, but had it been a fiberglass lip I can think of about 5 times that I would have to replace it when there was no damage made the lip I had.

the real one isn't ABS. it's FRP (fiber-reinforced plastic)
It's a hybrid of fiberglass and some type of polymer.
I would say it is a fair bit more resilient than fiberglass. However, I've never had experience with fiberglass. I recently cracked my v2, by pulling up a tad too far in a parking space and whacked it on the curb. (DOH!)
I have also scraped the bottom of it so many times I cannot even count and it has held up fairly well.
EDIT:
I don't think I would trust anything made of fiberglass as a front lip, just sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. Mine has taken a beating and still looks fine except for a hair line crack near the brake inlet\duct and that was from smacking a curb head on.
So in conclusion I suggest either saving up a bit more and forking over 500 bones or just save the money. In hindsight I wouldn't have bought the thing to begin with and spent the money on something more useful considering it was freaking $500, I don't know what I was thinking

I have the SubyDude V2 carbon lip on mine and it fits like a glove. Very easy to install and came with the appoprate mounting hardware. I also have banged a curb or 2 with minimal damage, not to say it didnt do damage, but it is not noticable. I got my fiberglass lip for $200 bills.
Its a lip man...cut corners on stuff like this and spend money on the important go fast stuff.
My car isn't a daily drvier so this could also factor into the equation.
06 STI with 3200 miles on it.

The most whored pic Ive ever posted. I bought this lip from the OP, I was told that its the real deal plus it had the badge that sets it apart from the replicas, it is definitely not any type of PLASTIC because when I got it from him it had a big ass crack and a crap load of chips in it so I repaired it and repainted the lip, three months later its chipped like no other and all you see it white under the chips witch makes me belive the material is some type of fiberglass, also the original color was white but the OP had it rattle can black.

Lets see some more replicas.

I got the V1 lip from subydude, there is not way you can fit on it unless you mod it.
I talked to subydude and they exchanged the V2 lip for me, they fit 80% pefect, but since it is fiberglass, my paint shop ask me to install the lip and paint it together. If paint it separately, the paint on the fiberglass will crack when you force the lip onto the bumer.
If you can afford, real STI lip is always the best choice, I think V1 real lip is the best. But if not, you can get the V2 fiberglass lip.
give you my picture:

If you are interested in the Subydude V2 lip shoot me a PM and I will get you a nice price on the lip. We like to hook forum members up :)
We did have fitment issues with our V1 lip. That is not to say it will not fit but it does require some work and is recommended to have a body shop install it. These lips are sold at a greatly reduced price on a ask only basis, we do not advertise the lip as it doesn't have perfect fit.
The V2 lips in Fiberglass do fit well. It does help to have two people installing the lip and once you get it angled on right the fit is snug but it is a nice fit. I have the real deal V2 lip on my car and it does not look very good anymore, a few cracks on each side. Any lip can crack if something hits it.

to anyone that broke 1/2 their lip..
i can attest to the genuine sti lip being some kind of fiber reinforced polymer, however it feels far more like plastic than any kind of flexible part.
either way, it looks great, and is getting rare-ish now. and is something that is really 2002-03 sti.. i mean NO OTHER CAR has a look like that in any of the subaru line up much less any other import/domestic, etc.
seriously, get the replica since it WILL break on something.. if your car is lowered, it will scrape..
unless ur gonna keep this thing parked or only driving on really gradual grade surfaces.. mine took about 3 years of punishment from canadian winters and im sure that helped make it brittle. My driving style changed and i became a lot more careful entering and exiting gas stations, driveways, etc.
u'll also have to master the "diagonal-entry" technique.. where on any driveway entry or exit that is on a slope, u will have to cut thru onto the flat part diagonally, since that will greatly reduce the angle of which ur car will have to be on and reduce the chance of crushing the lip...
on another note, if anyone wants the passenger side 1/2 of a genuine STI v2 lip, ask me, [emailprotected]
PS. suby_dude, do you sell halves?

Wheel dude IS suby dude.
Sorry, these lips aren't in production anymore. Try JapanParts, or a couple of vendors have run some group buys for v2 reps. "Real" lips aren't in production anymore either, so prices are going to vary based on the private party market.
