Sylvania Silverstones part 1

Redline927 12-03-2006 03:50 PM

Sylvania Silverstones
Is anyone running these bulbs in their bugeye? I have heard some good things about them, I want to make sure they are worth it before I buy them.

Any pics with the headlights on, before and after maybe?

thanks.

i think you meant silverstars, but i have the bulbs in my bugeye and it's not too much of a difference. alot of people on here will tell you not to get them because alot of people have had problems with them, but i've had them in my bugeye for almost 10 months and they are still going good
Redline927 12-03-2006 04:04 PM

no, im pretty sure they are silverstones, they are a new product. I just saw a commercial for them a few days ago, but i cant find them on sylvania's website. hmm.

I have heard of silverstars too.

if they have a coating on them, they will burn out faster and give you decreased light output.

i'm voting not worth it.

they don't last too long at all, they LOOK pretty but truly aren't that great.. they're just a bit whiter.. that's all..
JBravo920 12-03-2006 04:15 PM

I use Osram Silverstars +50, you cant get them at the store, you have to order them, but I got mine on ebay and they werent too expensive, looks a lot better and there is more usable light output.

yeah, i was just reading about those in the bulb thread.

I think you're combining Hella Supertones and Sylvania Silverstars. Read this thread http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=954736 and if you still want to buy sylvania SS you're 100% rice. They do absolutely nothing except reduce light output and turn your headlights blue. I put Osram silverstars +50 on my car and it made a difference. I got mine here http://www.powerbulbs.co.uk/default.asp?prodtype.asp?PT_ID=86&strPageHistory=cat

first of, i think you ment the ULTRA? those are the new bulbs from sylvania. i had silverstars in my bugeye before i got jdm projectors and they 100% made a difference. they seem to have a better output than the silverstars so i think they would be pretty good. ive heard of short lifetime for those bulbs, but for as long as i have my silverstars...i never had a problem with them. even after i have a big accident, the bulbs still hold up fine and worked.

as for tkarabian, i think you ment the cool blue from sylvania. those are the ricer bulbs.

In my headlights my old set lasted 1 1/2 yr till I upgraded to an HID set up. I had a set in my foglights for 2 1/2 yrs that were still good when I got driving lights.

big (i mean big) vote for Osram Silverstars.

Not the Sylvania-branded junk. It's just a coated +20 bulb. not bad, but nothing worth $50 a pair.

Osram ones from Europe are totally worth it. much whiter, much brighter, Fits h1, h4, and h7's only tho. So there's isn't one for your stock wrx 9007 or whatever we used.

I use the on my 03 WRX (i have EDM's so its an H1 bulb), and i use them on my MR2 with H4 Hella housings. Love em and wouldn't use any other bulb. Only cost like $30/pair anyway.
holland_patrick 12-03-2006 07:06 PM

Mine lasted less then a year I wasn't happy.. they wanted to honor their warrentee but wanted the bulbs back first. that ment i had to buy all new bulbs anyways.. SUCK...
AllAWD 12-03-2006 07:10 PM

I am on my second set of silvania silverstones.

First set lasted 3 years.

Light output is whiter than stock, but not much brighter. I find it easier to see with the whiter light, but everyone says whiter is not as bright. due to the blue tint on the bulbs. I like them, so I'm still running them.

BTW, they were just on sale at advanced auto for 25% off, but it may have ended Nov. 30.
designfate 12-03-2006 10:10 PM

i have htem in my fogs and they are bomb
IronMonkeyL255 12-04-2006 12:01 AM

I'll stick with the Sylvania Xtra visions I'm running.

IIRC, they are the same construction as the Silverstars, except they don't have the blue tint. This means they don't look quite as white, but are still plenty bright.

For what it's worth, I had a set of silverstars in my '94 wagon, and the whiteness kinda got on my nerves. No matter how I aimed them, it seemed that the reflection I got off of highway signs seemed WAY brighter, and got on my nerves.

They make H3 bulbs now? I didn't even look, but back in 03 they didn't have them.

I just wish they came in 70W
jmanrex 12-04-2006 02:06 PM

don't do it dog it's just not worth it

went through 2 sets in a matter of 3 months--they don't last
tlip1119 12-04-2006 02:47 PM

I have sylvania CoolBlues, they look great and their cheap
Kean 12-04-2006 03:57 PM

The following thread should answer most (if not all) of your questions regarding bulb choice:

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=954736

btw, youll find mixed reviews/opinions regarding the longevity of the Sylvania Silverstars. However, that is only one factor when considering the overall performance of a bulb. In fact, its not even a consideration in my mind when you realize the effects a tinted bulb can have on the quality of light. .even if these things lasted 5 years or more I would not recommend them. The simple fact is that there are better products available on the market. .and in some cases, at a cheaper price.

i vote for osram +50 or philips visionplus +50
Redline927 12-04-2006 07:31 PM

too bad they dont have Osram silverstars for my bugeye 9007 bulb.

booo.

I see a set of JDM lights in my future.
kavy 12-04-2006 07:34 PM

I had them in my car for over 2 years before one finally burnt out, womans car has had them for almost a year no problems yet. Alot of people have these lights burn out because the improperly installed them or touched the bulb on the way in and greased them up.
Mulder 12-04-2006 07:35 PM

Ask Alicia Silverstar. ;)
