Weight of stock WRX seats

I'm debating whether to replace my stock WRX seats with Sparco Evo2's (which fit me like a glove) for better fit & lateral support. The final deciding factor will be weight savings, or lack thereof.
I've searched high & low, and can't find the weight of the stock WRX seats listed anywhere! Can anyone save me the effort of pulling out my seats & weighing them?

I've taken my driver's seat out, but not weighed it. I'd say it's in the vicinity of 35-40 lbs. The passenger seat should be a few pounds lighter because it doesn't have the height adjustment.
There was a great thread here months ago that had the weights of nearly everything removeable. Might want to search the archives.
BTW, if you can't find that, the seats are easy to remove. 5 minutes tops.

Yeah,
I saw that great thread, but it didn't include front seat weight!:mad:
Oakos has an excellent list of parts weights....but again, no front seat weights!:mad: :mad:

I bet you $1000 that the sparcos will be lighter then the stock seats. Our brackets are heavy too.
Just buy the drivers evo 2 and don't worry about the passenger side :)

I think they are closer to 60lbs w/ brackets, especially cause of the airbags. They are not light, folks say it takes two people to get them out :p

I know I can barely carry a stock seat around by myself... gotta be at least 40 pounds.

I don't think they are anywhere near 60lbs. _Maybe_ 40 lbs. The airbags don't really weigh anything at all, the weight is in the base and mounting. (I've taken the backs off my WRX seats numerous times, where the airbag is located). Honestly I couldn't tell a huge difference between the weight of them and my STI V7 seats that I have now. 1 person can certainly carry one and remove it from the car. You want heavy you should lift my friends S4 seats, I think they are 120lbs apiece...

The front seats weigh very close to 50 lbs. I attempted to weigh mine using 2 different scales. Unfortunately they were over max weight on one scale and low on the weight range of the other scale so accuracy of both were less than Ideal. I came to the conclusion that the seats (passenger side front 2002 WRX) is approx 52 lbs +/- 2 lbs.

2004 front seat weights 46 pounds with rails- the 02-03's weight a bit more... I know- I have shipped enough of them around :p

For STX? I thought we were limited to non-shell fixed back seats or did I miss something...

The stock seats weighed about 45 lbs each when I pulled mine out.
My total weight savings after installing my Nex race seats with sliders was just over 60 lbs total.

Are the newer seats lighter? That might be a good upgrade for some 02/03 owners.
I really want to get some Bride subframes. They look much lighter than anything else I've seen. I just can't find any sellers.

aspera- pics of the Bride subframes? These would work w/ any after market seat? or just Bride seats?

Yes, that was with everything bolted to the bottom. Remove from car via 4 main mounting bolts, drop on scale = 55lbs.
No idea on weights other than that, sorry.

I don't know, but I'm hopeful that the Bride FO type or FG type will work with Sparco side-mount seats. If not, they look like they could be MADE to work. The reason that I like the Bride seat rails is that they use the sliders as part of the subframe structure. That should make them lighter and lower. The FG type is even more extreme. It gets rid of lots of steel.

I have a pair of the BRIDES, and the uprights were far too narrow (although they are not pictured on the link above). Unlike the ones at the link, mine arrived as one piece units, no bolt-on uprights. BUT - they were WAY too narrow for a typical Sparco, Momo or Recaro seat. I had to cut off the stock uprights and replace them with a set of traditional steel side-mount seat brackets. BRIDE seats must be VERY narrow.
My BRIDE mounts fit the car (GC8) perfect though, and have none of the slop that you sometimes get with the common "bolt together" solutions that are typical here (wedge).

We'll be installing the bling into my car soon too :lol:
Shawn (codriver this year) mentioned, hey I've had this seat collecting dust, maybe we should install it in the car. Its a corbeau FX1 20lbs. Once the bracket is bolted on it should shave a good 25lbs off the drivers front :D
