What HID come with JDM STI lights?
What type of hids come with the jdm sti lights? also is it worth the money to buy the hid or should i just get the non hid and put an hid kit in.

Dont buy the entire system, cause its NOT worth the money. You can order just the HOUSINGS that are designed around HID so you wont blind people with glare. It is about the same price, and than buy a aftermarket HID system and you will save quite a bit of money that could go to something else :)

Subaru uses McCulluch as their OEM HID systems on all of their cars e.g. Impreza, Legacy...

Do you know where I could get the housing? and about how much they go for? I'm also interested in getting these. Thanks in advance
(And I have tried a search...I can't find much info about just the housing)

Ok... and how do they look different? Am I missing something here? All I see is one picture is fuzzier than the other...
Its not worth getting the HID JDM Headlights. Just get the projectors and throw on an HID kit. I've seen the JDM HID headlights sold anywhere from $2,100-$2,600. When you compare that with the Non-HID headlights (anywhere from $750-850) and the HID kits available (anywhere from $370-$550), do the math. It's not worth it.

The HID STi JDM headlights look much nicer than the regular JDM headlights. They have an all black chrome housing, as opposed to black plastic on the regular JDM projectors. Minor detail, but if you're looking for the coolest looking lights for the WRX, then you have to go for the OEM JDM HID housings...
Look around for the JDM STi HID headlights... you can get some lightly used ones for some really nice deals. I'm currently waiting on a set... I would have had them pretty soon, but that stupid f@#king west coast port strike has backed up my order so it looks like I'm gonna be waiting for a while...

Oh ok, thanks for clearing that up. I can see the difference now with the bigger pic of the HID ones. But still, for all that extra cash, I'd still rather just stick with the Non-HID ones and just buy an HID kit.

wow, those JDM STI HIDs (three three letter acronyms in a row, sheesh) look hot.
Just one thing though... Aren't the JDM lights RHD so that they'd be throwing a rediculous amount of HID powered glare towards the uncoming traffic?

Damn if those housings aren't the most beautiful things I've ever seen.
So how much do the housings go for, and does it require other parts than just the main headlight projectors?

If you guys want to do it legally, you will need the housing, leveler, projection lense and the headlight washer. All of those are needed to legally have HID light in cars across all 50 states. I have started the works on my HID conversion on my SVX and to make it legal, you have to go through a lot of R&D. So unless you can get the whole light, and you want a legal system, prepare to pay some $$$

I think you're talking about EU regs dude
there's no law that says you have to have auto/manual-levelers or washers in the US to put HID on your car.
Also they are adjustable so you can adjust them over to the proper side of the road, just the cutoff is strange. I've found that the only disadvantage is that your right hand road side vision isn't as good off the road due to just the cutoff pattern.
You guys should really do a search on all this, it's been discussed many times before.

And, I hear they are bringing out a dual HID kit early next year (January / February timeframe) so that we can run with HID low beam and HID high beam. That would be awesome!

If your talking about the actual technology its already been done. Its not all that great I would take HID low Halogen High over the Dual anyday.
New BMW's have the dual HID system and I like having halogen over the HID high

So there's 2 different housings for the STi lights? One for HID and a different one for Non HID? ARG!
Is it possible to get LHD STi HID lights?
What parts vary between the hid housings and the non-hid housings? Is it just the face plate?

From what I've studied up on, whether the face plate in the housing is chrome or black doesn't depend upon HID or not
The chrome housings are the "2001" housings. And the black ones are the housings currently.
Example: You are in Japan, 2001, you buy a STi with HIDs... you get chrome housings.
Example: You are in Japan, 2002, you buy a STi with HIDs.... you get black housings

yes that's my understanding as well....
These lights are very rare. Just look at how many people have them on the board. Maybe 5.
