What Tint

Im getting my silver rex tinted tommorrow. Any suggestions as to what degree, or kind for that matter....thanks~chris
Subie Gal 11-15-2001 05:33 PM

depends on you i suppose...

what state are you in?
have you verified the legalities of your state?

the limits?

or do you care?

if you are not used to super dark tint, it can be very challenging to drive with at night... just an fyi...

i have limo on the back 3 windows and the strip on the windshield...

the front side windows are 20%.....

it's up to you... and the laws for your state...
gettin busted for tint is expensive!!
1 - you have to remove it all! (or have it removed)
2 - then you gotta pay to install it again
(been there done that when i lived in CA)

have fun & good luck

personally i don't like the super dark limo tint that subie gal was talking about, but i'm planning on getting a 'mirror' tint. not to the point that it's opaque and not the green crap, i'm talking about a 50% tint on all the windows. visibility out is damn good but looking in your eyes are confused by the reflections, but if you look hard enough it's possible to see faces in the car (good enough for cops). on silver vehicles this is exceptionally good looking, but then again it is somewhat more of a modest approach, which tends to be my fancy (silent but deadly  ). good luck.

Hey, I'm from Wisconsin. I'm pretty sure legal is like 50 in the front and 35 in the back, but i think I might just get 20% all around. My brother and friend have had 20% for awhile and still havent been pulled over. I would want 5% in the back, but i think i might get pulled over for that. Anyone with pics of 20% back, and 35 % front? Thanks
NotoriousWRX 11-15-2001 07:18 PM

Chris, don't get different % tint on different windows. It'll be noticeable and doesn't look right. 20% or 35% all around looks very good. The difference in both is at night, where with 20% you really can't see very well into the car, and with 35% you can still see into the car so you're less likely to get harrassed by the cops.

Keep in mind that the dark interior in our cars make the tint seem darker. I have 35% all around in my car and am very happy with it. :D I have also seen WRXs with 20% all around and they look very sharp. I just didn't want to push my luck going any darker, as here it is illegal to have any tint on the 2 front windows.
mitch808 11-15-2001 07:34 PM

Coming from Hawaii I know a lot about tint. It's almost a requirement there. Here in WA, it's not that common and people get that cheap a$$ film that fades to purple after 6 months. I also see lots of people with 20% or even 5%.

20% is not that dark at all. Even with a dark interior. It is very hard to see in with silver tint and with black or charcoal you can see shapes but not make out a persons face. I had my neon in 20% and 35% when I first bought it. I refuse to go any lighter than 20% now.

My truck had 5% all around and I loved it and hated it. During the day, who needs sun glasses. But at night it took some getting used to. You should have seen my buddies benz with double 5% tint. Talk about pimp ride ;)

There is no reason why you can't go 35% on the front windows and 20% on the rest. It will hardly be noticible. The windshiled lets in so much light that if you had 20% up front it is lighter than the rear anyways.
topher 11-15-2001 08:57 PM

hmm. thanks guys. ill take all your comments into consideration, and post some pics in a few days :)
SammyDFG 11-16-2001 02:23 AM

20% for your money

5% if you dont want people knowing what you have inside
dbrier 11-16-2001 07:45 AM

I got mine done 35% all the way around. Zeibart was going to do the fronts at 35% and then rest at 20%. I personally don't like the mixed look, so I got it the same on all 7 windows.
Legal maximium in Indiana on the front side windows is 35%.
I like it...
Texas25RS 11-16-2001 09:21 AM

15%

The key thing in tint is not so much the percentage, but goodness sake, make sure you get metalized tint and not dyed crap.... the dyed stuff will turn PURPLE as time passes....

Me? I like my 15%...

3M 3M 3M 3M 3M 3M !!!

I've put 3M 30% on my side and rear windows. It comes with a lifetime gurantee against bubbles and peeling. IMHO, I'd stick with a reputable brand like 3M. The fit is great and it looks top notch.

I decided with 20% all around, and the car is at the shop right now. I pick it up at 4 and cant wait to see
SammyDFG 11-16-2001 07:32 PM

i gots 20%

good work

it looks sexy at night
very mysterious^^
cause some light can go through...but not enough :D
topher 11-17-2001 12:59 AM

yeah 20% is quite dark especially on our cars. it looks like i almost have 5% in the back cause our interior is so dark
jesse370 11-17-2001 01:19 AM

I forget what the back of my car has but the doors had I believe it was like 15-20? I got hassled so many times by the sj cops. And when i wasn't pulled over I was stared down like I was some criminal.
No thanks I will be ordering my rex in april and I MIGHT just get the windows real lightly tinted. maybe.
mcu81 11-17-2001 11:27 PM

anyone know the legal limit in pa?
2k2 11-18-2001 01:04 AM

mcu, in PA technicly the law states that you can only go down to about 20 percent in the front and any percent in the back. Cops in PA, Pittsburgh especially try to say there is a law that you cant have your front windows tinted in pa but that is a complete lie. The only law regulating pa is the Federal tinting law which mandates that you much be able to see the driver in the front 2 windows. (see: http://www.berksweb.com/users/dmv/tint/fmvss205.html Of course half of the states don't even follow that one.
Why Window Tinting is Legal In Pennsylvania?
Window Tinting is Legal in Pennsylvania because neither the Statute, which the legislature has enacted according to the will of the people, nor the Regulation, which the Administration has passed to clarify the law, prohibit it.

TITLE 75 Section 4524 (e)(1) of the Pennsylvania Common Statutes states that

(1) No person shall drive any motor vehicle with any sun screening device or other material which does not permit a person to see or view the inside of the vehicle through the windshield, side wing or side window of the vehicle.

Note that the law only prohibits tinting which prevents a person from seeing or viewing the inside of the vehicle. It does not prohibit all tinting or tinting below 70%.

The Law therefore implicitly permits any tinting which does not prevent a person from seeing or viewing the inside of the vehicle.

That sight will give you plenty more information on this issue.

Don't let the cops fool you in pa they are all

anyone know of tint websites that will put your car on the screen and then you can play around with different tints and how it looks on you car? kinda like discounttire.com
Sobelizard109 11-18-2001 11:12 AM

20% all round an 35% on the fronts with a 5% sunstrip. the 20% an 35% blends in so well its barely noticeable an looks good an cops wont hassle you
MagicMT 11-18-2001 06:20 PM

Everyone seems to have some dark tint! Mine is 50% all around. I like it a lot. It's noticable but not that dark.

i have limo on my rex, and in the hot florida sun it's awesome, but at night i wish it would be lighter. It sux cause you can't see what cars are behind you, especially when cops sneak up on you ra$$. I always have to roll my windows down at night and i have to look in my sideview mirrors to see what kind of car is behind me.
footypaul 11-25-2001 04:14 PM

i just got 5% limo tint on my silver sedan over the weekend. Talk about making a big difference in the way the car looks. I absolutely love it. Ive had tint on every car ive had. 5% can be challenging at night. I have a friend that has double 5 all around, with 35% on the windsheild and a strip from the top and bottom in 5%, with about a 8inch space in the middle covered by the 35. Now that is annoying to drive. And the cops absolutely love it, especially when he goes to lexington or virginia.
but dark tint isnt for everybody. legal limit here is 35, but its not enforced at all unless you go crazy with it

Does anyone know what the tint laws are for IL? or perhaps a website with that info?
Longitude 11-26-2001 10:10 PM

If you have a source for silver reflective mirror tint, that'd be a sweet one.

My friend had her silver Celica done with them.. you can't really tell it's tinted until you approach it within few feet.

But as for mine, you can see reflective blue SWRT Safari-style tint a mile away.

MagicMT 11-27-2001 12:53 AM

How can you use reflective tint? Isn't that illegal? Heard it is here. Got any pics of the "Safari tint"?

I know that theres a website out there that lists the laws for all states. I know I saw it on this board at some point so you may be able to search on here or maybe someone out there can post it if they have it.
