I like the look of 17's better. I like to see some tire. As long as there is no wheel gap.

18's, all the way.

18's please
| AdamRX | 11-27-2004 05:39 PM |
I got 18's....more weight though, maybe not by much but still more
| MB38 | 11-27-2004 05:43 PM |
18s will probably look "better" (in a show car light), but they will not perform well as compared to the 17" rims.
| Predator3 | 11-27-2004 05:44 PM |
when you say it wont perform as well...is it in handling and acceleration or just one of those or what?
Thanks
Also, how much more would 18s affect it? Is it so minimal that i won't notice it?

Well, it depends on how tuned your butt dyno is.
You're looking at two major issues: weight and tire profile.
The weight issue is obvious. The bigger the rim, the heavier it is. The heavier the rotating mass, the more power it takes to get the mass rotating. Bigger rims = slower cars. Will the difference be drastic? Probably not. Is there a difference? Yes.
The tire profile issue doesn't occur to many people. The bigger the rim, the lower profile your tire will be. What this means is that there won't be as much tire to absorb potholes, railroad tracks and drainage ditches. Your ride will become harsher and there will be more road noise. I notice the difference, some people don't. Now that I've put these ideas in your head you'll probably notice it. Had I not said anything, you wouldn't have.
So the difference isn't really a big or important one between 17" and 18" rims, but it is there. That's reason enough for me.
And plus, how blingin' can you look with the skimpy little stock brakes filling up about half of the rim? ;)

Depends if your looking at your wallet. Get 15" and live life large. Cheap wheels cheap tires. Lots of extra money.

18's for look and 17s or heck even 16s for performance.
"Mass Rotation" is the problem with the 18s.

Street: 17"
Dirt: 15"
Carpet: 18-19" ;)
I'd say go for 17" over 16" for performance merely because of the extra brake options that you're suddenly allowed.
Of course, personal preference. This thread isn't about me. :p

dang if it's an option get friggin 19's, but I doubt BBS makes 19's RGR.
Those are some hot wheels though! I love almost all BBS wheels.
I have playing too much --Need For Speed Underground 2--
Hence the 19 comment.
There is always the option of having a second set of wheels? Get the bling for daily driven and if you do track events and auto-x have another set. If you can afford 18 inch RGR it sounds like you are doing "well".

18x8; just make sure to drop your car properly.
| wrx05 | 11-28-2004 03:41 PM |
if you werent going to drop your car Id say 17...If your gonna drop it go 18 and get rid of all the wheel well space.
| DumbUglyDragon | 11-28-2004 07:52 PM |
17"s with the brakes to fill them in.
| Predator3 | 11-30-2004 03:41 PM |
how far should i drop it if i get 18's? how about 17s? I want to get the springs before hand so i don't drive around looking like an ass when i get the rims.
| evo_killer | 11-30-2004 05:09 PM |
I have got 18's on my car with Eibach Prokit springs installed. the rear has
probably only about 0.5 inches of clearance while the front looks like it still
has 1.5 to 2 inches of clearance.... I would love to get that front lowered
some more!! :)

i would go 18...the only reason i have 17's on my car is bc its an RS and 18=no good for the most part
| moss | 11-30-2004 05:28 PM |
I ran 18s!
18s look huge on an GC RS. 18s on the GD chassis looks much better. 17x8 or 8.5 = sick though...

Here's a pic of my car with the 18's installed, but BEFORE the Eibachs were in.

And here's a pic of my exhaust taken just before Thanksgiving, with the Eibachs installed. You can see the rear wheel clearance is kinda small now.
I will need to take a more recent pic for the front wheels.

Hope this helps.
