Wiper fillers recomenadtion
I went to the subaru dealer to get some wiper fillers for my car and they told me that subaru does not sell fillers. They did offer to sell me the whole blade at 30 bucks for the drivers side. Needless to say I walked out before I got the price for the passenger side one.

Now my question is the dealer trying to screw me or does subaru really not sell fillers; and if not what brand fits stock wipers the best?

are you serious?

okay..
first of all.. $30 each? that's a joke

$6-8 at any oem subaru on line store for the new blades

and ....subaru does sell refills

problem is, they cost as much as the new blade assemblies
so you may as well get the new blades

but get them somewhere with a much better price

yes I am they told me that I could only get the whole blade because subaru doesnt sell the fillers.
Lorenzo 04-15-2006 12:05 PM

Thank you Jamie

I hear that Walmart sells wiper blades.
Lorenzo 04-15-2006 12:25 PM

subaruparts.com lists a pass side filler but not a drivers side for the STi.
I might be forced to pay for a whole blade, 23 bucks there.

Not my experience... Bosch Excel... Should run $20 for both sides. Excels are not refills. They replace the whole blade fixture. High quality and more durable than the stock units.

For $30 you can replace both wipers with PIAA blades which are good also.
Mulder 04-15-2006 01:20 PM

If you have an 06 and the wipers aren't working properly they are covered under the 3/36 warranty, the dealer should replace them for you.
yerrow 04-15-2006 02:04 PM

valeo FTW!
valeo FTW!
I'd agree, if you do need to buy blades the Valeo Ultimate blades (beam type) are excellent. Previously they were only available at Tire Rack, but Auto Barn now sells them for about $20 apiece.
Bosch is also making beam blades now, I believe Autozone carries those. Haven't seen or tried those yet.
Lorenzo 04-15-2006 02:43 PM

Wipers themselves are fine the I change filler every spring/fall. And aftermarket blades do not follow the contour of the windshield as good as I put bosch on my 02 and they sucked I didn't like them. The stock wipers are damn good all I need a fillers.

P.S I pulled the filler off one blade and it slid right out. I measured it is 21.5 inches does that round up to 22"
iamchris 04-15-2006 02:59 PM

Sure, why not? And if it's too long, just cut it.
Thumper23 04-15-2006 03:03 PM

PIAA, switched from Bosch and never have looked back

It's ashame those blades blow. I used the 'Tripledge' silicone ones on MY05. I loved the way they wiped...where they actually did. For some reason I couldn't get the blade to keep contact with the entire windshield. I went up a size, and then down 2 sizes... the best was the smaller blade. It was weird. Just keep this in mind. Maybe it was a freak windhsield.

Anyways, do those valeo blades work well with the 06 windshields? any experiences?

I use the Tripledge blades. They work pretty well, although they smear sometimes, but that may be from the Rain-x windshield washer fluid.
ScubaruImpreza05 04-15-2006 07:04 PM

I noticed mine didn't like wiping the outside of the windshield, or the middle of the blad contact. Was rather annoying, but the Tripledges were great, and the streaking is from rain-x. I had the same issue after I used rain-X fluid.

05wrxmatt 04-15-2006 07:14 PM

Yeah, I will gladly trade a little streaking for the Rain-x. Not having to use my wipers in the rain is nice.
Mulder 04-15-2006 07:18 PM

The Valeos have been working great on my 02, and I don't think the wipers or windshield have changed through 06.
scoobdude 04-16-2006 09:15 AM

valeo at walmart for 15 bucks

If not try the trico's (same just without the spoiler) for about the same price.
Mulder 04-16-2006 09:28 AM

The Trico beam blades are inferior imitations of the Valeos. They may work ok for a short time but they do not hold up as well and also tend to leave deposits on the glass. For the same price or a bit more definitely get the Valeos.
The above is based on direct personal experience.
Siper2 04-16-2006 11:12 AM

Just buy Anco blades. They're like four to six bucks a piece for the AeroVantage ones, cheaper at Wal-Mart. But I pay a little extra at auto stores, just to not have to GO to Wal-Mart. So like $6 or something.

Been using them for years. Tried Bosch, the connectors are frustrating as can be. Tried Rain-X blades, connectors were also a pain, and they weren't spectacular.

So, in the 12 years I've been driving, I've found that some may be better, but only marginally. So I continue to buy Anco. Installation takes about four seconds.

I personally wouldn't buy this kind of item from the dealership unless they offered a clearly superior brand or product. Bosch MicroEdge Excel have been serving me very well for the past 5 or 6 years. I've not used PIAA or any other silicone blades because I hear they coat your windshield with a thin layer of silicone over time (which helps the performance), which I don't want.

I've also used RainX in the past on other cars and have sworn by it. But the one time I used it on my WRX it didn't work well at all. I assumed they changed the product or maybe the angle of the windshield contributed to it not working as well. Maybe it was because I used the insta-hand wipes instead of the old liquid and applicator method. Either way, I've got to try it again to make my final judgement on that.

Check these out for $122. For wipers!!

But replacement blades like Bosch or PIAA are exactly the same as the stock units... they are straight and measure 22" driver and 17" passenger. I'm not sure what you mean by "contour."

Here is a pic of an 02 WRX with Bosch blades... they occupy the exact same space, contour, and profile of the stock blades...

Bosch does make a curved blade that is designed to work on VW's and Audi's. The curved blade in the parked state matches the edge contour of the Audi or VW windshield.

I'd replace the fixture and the blade and not just the blade itself. Any auto parts store sells Bosch... and if you do get them... make sure they are Microedge Excel.
ScubaruImpreza05 04-16-2006 05:30 PM

Would the PIAA silicone curved blades eliminate the 'lift' the blade seems to have on the windshield? Just wondering because I'm already disliking my stockers and want a replacement soon.

I'd never even consider anything else other than the Subaru OEM wipers. My car is 3 years old and I'm still on the originals and they work perfect. Oh, and I live in western Oregon where it rain 9 months out of 12 so they get plenty of beating...SubaruGenuineParts.com all the way...
Firestarter1973 04-17-2006 12:46 PM

The last set I put on my RS was a set of Michelins. I've had them a year and they've worked very well.

I got these at autozone. They are awsome!! They are kinda pricy like $18.00 a peice I think. Well worth it though. They are bracketless all one peice kind of like a winter wiper. They are awsome...

Yep those are the Bosch beam blades, basically equivalent to the Valeos and about the same price. My personal experience is with the Valeos but I'd expect these to be just as good.
