Would you like to see Toyota return to WRC?

Vote! and explain if you like.
I'm personally all for it. I want the AWD Celica's and Corolla's to return. If you ask me right now, Toyota could use a more sporty image.

Yes. More works cars is always a good idea, especially from one who made damn fine one.

Sure, I'd love it, we could use some more competition. But it won't happen anytime soon. Toyota is dumping all its motorsport efforts into F1. They're not even in GT anymore, only F1.

They're also doing well in IRL.

This is a kinda silly poll. Probably 97% of the people who vote will want more competition(myself included). But unfortunately it's just not going to happen in the form of Toyota.

I think it would be pretty cool to see another american company get in on the action.

I personally hope the Saturn Ion hits the WRC! I don't know if you all heard, but the ION WRC has a bitchin' system and a tight Wings West body kit!
But in all honesty I would love to see more competition (even if it was Saturn  ). There are all sorts of improvements that could be made the the WRC, and some more works teams would be nice. Specially if it brought the popularity of the sport up in the USA. I could finally get a copy of WRC II Extreme!

now with FIA only allowing two factory sponsored cars... i wonder if it'll scare people and companies away, or allow for more variety in rides and drivers. should be interesting.
i'd love to see yota out there, along with perhaps bigtime audi, nissan, and suzuki awd wrc cars.

Another??? Ford Motorsports of NA has nothing to do with their WRC campaign. It's all Ford of Europe/M Sport that handles this.
Ford Europe > Ford NA anyday of the week.
I'd like to see Audi or Seat come back.
You'll never see Saturn in the WRC since IIRC they don't sell cars overseas. Perhaps in the SCCA ProRally series.
That'd be cool if Saturn brought out the Ion QC and Ford NA brought out a factory backed Focus SVT in Grp. 2 or 5 or whatever 2WD is...

I would LOVE to see Toyota get back into WRC. Of all the people on these *Impreza* forums, I'm probably one of the bigger Toyota fans. Mostly I'm biased since we had a Corolla FX-16 for what? 14 years? Before we bought the WRX. That thing is an awsome little car. It makes the WRX feel so clumbsy and awkward, even if it is a lot more powerful.

I highly doubt you'll see the return of Toyota to the WRC. They are spending almost as much as Ferrari developing their F1 car. They are also heavily invested in Nascar. I doubt they will return to WRC, especially w/ how expensive the WRC has gotten. I wouldn't be surprised if Hyundai never returns to the WRC as they claim. Castrol has backed out, so where is the money going to come from to fund these teams?

You mean besides hopes and dreams? Well, I don't want to hear it...:(

More teams in rally would always be good.

Zack,
I'm w/ you. I was a Toyota guy before my scooby. I would love to see Toyota enter the WRC and come out w/ some sort of homologation car. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like it's going to happend unless WRC gets a lot more popular. :furious:

WRC is HUGE in Europe and Toyota could stand improvement there.
Does anyone know where I can find team cost estimates for WRC? Like how much Subaru spends, Citroen spends, etc..?

Yes. It would be good for competition and it might get Toyota to bring over a WRX equivalent in a few years. I would really enjoy an automotive appliance with joi de vivre..

Would love to see Toyota back. I can't imagine that the return on the F1 investment is worth it. Their extremely successful WRC program cost only a fraction of what they spend on F1 and I doubt their F1 program will ever produce a champion as long as Ferrari (and others) are around.
But then I'm the one that can't fathom that some people really buy cars based on brand loyalty to F1. Seems to me that if Toyota did like Subaru and Mitsu and marketed an AWD car with a WRC counterpart it would have much more connection to the public. Apparently there are some suits at Toyota who think otherwise!

Yes, I would absolutlely love to see Toyota back in WRC. If Ford can be in F1 (as parent company of Jaguar) and WRC, why not a Toyota? OK, if Toyota does not like that idea, rename their F1 car to Lexus and bring back a Corrolla to WRC.
For that matter bring back Seat as well. I don't care for Audi, as it seems that they want to develop their vehicles for snobs (I know what I am talking about I own one), but then again what the heck, bring them back too.

There is a Corolla WRC in the 2004 WRC season. I've seen it a few times (usually mid-range in the standings).
I love Corollas. I drive one. It's an 80s model and this thing is still kicking like it's brand new. Toyotas are very very well built cars.
Come on, Toyota Canada. Forget the fancy family cars and give us an AWD turbo-charged Corolla sport!!!

NEW QUESTION:
What vehicle do you want in WRC? Corolla, Echo (laughs), Scion Ax, Celica?
I would be happy with the Celica or Corolla personally. Both have a long way to go from their current production state to WRC ready, though.

Corolla.
But I still like the old version with the bubble lights. That never came over here to Canada (not sure about US).
It's like a trademark Toyota WRC thing...

I don't remember ever seeing this in the states.
Toyota World Championship Victories (Manufacturer)
1999 TOYOTA Corolla WRC
1994 TOYOTA Celica 4WD
1993 TOYOTA Celica 4WD
Toyota World Championship Victories (Driver)
1994 Didier AURIOL French Toyota
1993 Juha KANKKUNEN Finnish Toyota
1992 Carlos SAINZ Spanish Toyota
Sainz used to rally with Toyota back in the day (with a Celica). It's where he made his name and you can see where he is now.

I was also in the Toyota camp before my Scooby. Trucks though. I would love to see them back in WRC. Thats what brought me to Subaru.
Toyota dumped their Trophy Truck/Baja program a few years back. I think Ivan Stewart retiring did it. They do still sponsor some CORR trucks though.
I would love to see GM step up to the WRC plate. It would take 20 corporate teams to even figure out what tires to run though.
