WRX Fronts Wagon vs. Sedan ??

what's the big differences between the wagon and the sedan front ends? i've noticed a few small differences (side vents by the fogs) ... but is there a reason for it? different cooling reasons? or perhaps just to mix things up a bit, or.... is it enough of a change that not all aftermarket lips fit both?
| Subie Gal | 06-02-2003 12:32 PM |
width is different in the front..
Sedan 68.1"
Wagon 66.7"
that's why the front lip wont fit correctly

You could try this website
They list dimensions and have photos, though no side by side ones.

You can convert the wagon to a sedan front end by purchasing the fenders, inner fender liners, and bumper from Subaru. All are a direct fitment, and would cost about $800 total with no paint. If you wanted a different bumper (like the Jun) that would be the time to get it.
I know a guy who has done this so that he could fit 245's under his wagon. Looks pretty cool but needs paint. Lucky for him his car's black.

Yeap,
However, IMO if you only go with the front wide fenders on a wagon and leave the stock rear ones, it looks VERY weird.
 :alien:

can someon post pics of this conversion.
also, on the wagon, the vent under the fog is smaller(height wise) than the sedan. I have a V2 lip and it won't fit because the vent is too small....no worries though, i will make it fit...now that i just wrecked my ride, i have a new bumper to manipulate for the lip. width wise down low, they appear to be the same....the lip fits that way just fine.

i am in the procces of changing my wagon front to the sedan front. the only reason i am doing this is cuz sedan parts alot cheaper and much easyer to find then the wagon.. i have look for wagon parts and didnt find any part. (unless buying from the dealer). i bought both fenders, hood, and bumper for 350. now thats cheap. but for wagon i couldnt even find a fender for 300!!!ill try to send some pics of my wrx when i am done. thanks

I did Chargespeed Sedan front end and the Kaumei rear fender flares for sedan. It was pretty easy if you know what you are doing.

That paintjob is beautiful. I'm assuming that's not an in-house color?

the CAR is not wider, the TRACK WIDTH is wider... just to clarify.
The Unibody under both is the same in the front end. The track is increased by the longer Lower Control Arms (LCA's) & the Fenders cover the resulting Wider track width.
Most wagon owners do this mod (front fenders, liners, bumper cover) to get the better front control arms, significantly better steering rack, more tire clearance, & more options for front lips/bumper covers than the Wagon fitment.
Many feel the sedan front without the wide/flared rear quarters looks "weird" "odd" or "just not right"... to each their own.
I have full sedan/STi rear Control arms (all 6 pieces) & the STi 20mm rear bar, no rolled fenders in the rear yet, but then I am only running 225/45/17 one size up from stock 17" fitment.
I looked long & hard at doing the sedan front on my wagon. Nearly did, but the process confused the body shop So I stuck with Wagon parts. i did the STi steering Rack & solid shaft, HUGE difference! all you need to do is screw the outer tie rods in further, its roughly a lil over 1/2" per side. Then get it aligned.

You have to have an 06 wagon with real STi headlights and original parts, great insurance and have an idiot cause a pile up.
