OT, how were the karts? i've always wondered if the karting at VIR was worth the trip.

Karting was awesome. It was my first time driving on any sort of racing track, but it still taught me a lot about using the proper line, braking points, etc. A local autocross group rented the karting track for 3 hours so everyone got around 45-50 minutes in the karts for fairly cheap (under $40). If you can get a group of people to go and get some discounted rates, I'd definately recomend it.
fantomrex24 08-09-2006 10:31 AM

was it $40 total for the karting or were there a few more $$ tossed in there. b/c id love to do that next time! btw colin mcfreakincrae is a beast. damn thats a happy rally banana!

That was great. Did they have footage of any of the other cars, or just the top 4? Until I saw O'Sullivan I thought everyone had 06 STI's, but at the end of that last vid, it looks like there might have been some other cars on there. Did the scoobs just dominate?

Those were top 4 of the 5 I just happened to get home to record. There were 16 cars I belive.....qualifiers of the 16 included 1 evo, and a tiburon. The rest were all Scoobies.

I just put the ones I got on tape up for you guys. If it re-airs Ill be sure to get the rest.

The price was $35, $37 if you paid online (dumb paypal charges but necessary in this case). Thats all. Could bring your own helmet or use ones they have there. I suppose you could say we all spent a little extra money in gas to drive up there.

Just contact VIR if you're interested in going. I'm sure its much more expensive if you just go there alone or with a small group.

Sorry for jacking this thread with talk of go-karting. They did have a dirt track next to the go-kart track though. Of course the guys with Subies wanted a chance to go on that.
JC_595 08-09-2006 01:08 PM

12 AWD invitees, and 3 2wd cars invited as "Exhibition only", not competing.

Of the 12 AWd's competing, there was a Ford Escort Cosworth (Ramana Lageman), an EVO IV (ACP), A Hyandai Tiburon (Paul Choineire), and a GC body STI (Matt Iorio). The remainder were 04 & up STI's, with 4 of them being directly supported by Subaru (Tanner, Colin, Ken & Travis).

The 2wd's consisted of a VW Beetle, a VW Golf, & a Dodge SRT4.

Considering ABC/ESPN compressed a full days worth of gravel stages and and hours worth of the super special stage into a one hour tv segment (which includes commercial time) lots of things had to get cut out.

Fortunately for me, I was present at the offroad stages and at the Home Depot Center. :) So I got to see it live.

Technically Pat's is an 02' - reskinned as an 04/05.
grippgoat 08-10-2006 12:08 PM

Awesome videos. I can't believe Colin rolled it and only missed first by like a half second.

Exactly. Colin was leading Pastrana by 0.52 seconds. After the roll Colin lost by half a second. So that means Colin was extremely fast on the super special stage to be able to roll over and recover to only lose a second.

Yeah, I was tryin to make it easier on the masses... ;)

Although 4th O'Sullivan was most fun to watch.
kreitz3 08-10-2006 10:18 PM

thank you. wish i could have been there.

Thanks!

He should have won based on freestyle points. Pastrana may be able to do a flip on a dirt bike, but Colin can do it in a car....
absolutsnwbrdr 11-04-2006 07:55 PM

i know its been a while since the x-games but I was wondering if anybody could email the vids to me so i can save them on my comp?
