The McLaren Mercedes team kick off on Wednesday an exclusive three-day test at the Ricard Tormo circuit in Valencia.

The Spanish driver was only in action in the afternoon, while test driver de la Rosa worked only in the morning. Briton Hamilton, slowest today, had a full day of testing, covering 69 laps.

For those interested, there are pictures up in the galleries of f1-live.com of the Honda RA107 and RedBull RB3 in their respective shakedowns before launch.

Hard to tell much but I like the front end with those bumps (dampers?).
The Red Bull pics aren't loading...dammit!

Got the RB3. The side pods are really rounded and the side mirrors are on the outside on like the Ferrari's and Renault's. Newy's hand is visable!

More fo the Honda. Front end is really sleak a la McLaren. the Bridgestones really change the character of the car. Might be just me up they look so tall and narrow.

Not to disagree with ArtKevin, but I think a big reason all y'all don't like the new Renault scheme is because its different from what you're used to seeing.

I like it and I like the blue borders in between the orange and yellow. :)
Kevin will know how subjective color is. Renault basically had these colors dictated to them by thier sponsors. Getting them to work together is no small feat regardless how anyone feels about the result.

I think you have a point with the colors not being commonly used together.
They did a good job, but I cant imagine those colors ever looking good together. (personal opinion)

Well, I would love it without the yellow but I realise the blue and yellow are Renaults colors so they have to be on the car. The back half of the car look amazing. I love the white/blue/orange and the thin line of yellow to accent the orange. The front half of the car on the other hand looks like a completely different car.
I am not saying that it can't work, just the amount of yellow if over done. IMHO.
p.s. I realise that we've spent about 25 or so posts about color and looks but we've already talked about the car itself when it was 1st posted. Just trying to keep the 80%

I think we are all just razzing you Draken. I could be wrong but at least I am.
I love this thread and the 2006 brethren because it feels like we are all sitting in a room watching IT-V or Speed just waiting for more F1 material. When launches happen and races take place, thats what we talk about. When its between tests and races (now) we just shot the poop with F1 being the genral binder.
Sooooo, if you just happen to pop in every once in awhile I can see how it would be hard to keep up. But, if you just wait for a launch or other major event thats pretty much what we will be talking about until we get bored.
All are welcome that are into F1 and have something to add to the conversation.
Hamilton unhurt in major crash at Valencia

Thursday, January 25th 2007, 16:56 GMT
British Formula One rookie Lewis Hamilton escaped unhurt after a high-speed crash in the new McLaren in testing at the Valencia circuit on Thursday.
"Lewis is uninjured. However the MP4-22 he was driving is badly damaged and will not be repairable in Valencia for Lewis to continue his test programme tomorrow," the Mercedes-powered team said.
"The cause of the accident is being investigated."
Double world champion Fernando Alonso, who was testing with Hamilton at the eastern Spanish track, will complete the scheduled programme on Friday.
Hamilton, 22, is due to make his Grand Prix debut in Australia on March 18 as Formula One's first black driver. He won the GP2 support series last year.
McLaren, who failed to win a race last year for the first time in a decade, unveiled the new car in Valencia 10 days ago.

Ferrari testing hindered by bad weather

Thursday, January 25th 2007, 17:12 GMT
Ferrari's pre-season testing was again affected by bad weather conditions, as the Italians continued testing at the Vallelunga circuit, north of Rome.
Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen again carrying out the testing duties for the Scuderia, the Brazilian driving the F2007 while the Finn was behind the wheel of the 248 F1.
But after getting through some running on dry track in the morning, mid-day rainfall meant the pair were once again unable to complete their planned work for the day.
Massa was able to complete 86 laps, however, with a best time of 1:13.029. Raikkonen completed 43 laps, with a best time of 1:13.587.
Ferrari will continue testing at Vallelunga tomorrow, with both Raikkonen and Massa again on duty.

If you have too many sponsors with differing color schemes, I love the idea of Honda's zipper car. That thing ruled. I know you couldn't get away with ripping it off - but it's better than this hodge-podge.
When/what was this "zipper" car? I started following F1 only a few years ago and my searches have unearthed nothing. Does anybody have pics? Cheers.

"Zipper" car was an early BAR that tried to have "split" sponsorship with two British American Tobacco Brands, 555 and Lucky Stripe. The FIA told them to pick one of the smokes and stick with it. (They did run a 555 liveried car in China and in Friday testing)

It was in 1999. BAR wanted to run as 555 and run the other as Lucky Strike. The FIA said they could only run one, so they put them into one design.

Thanks to both of you! 1999 was a few years before I started watching, so I missed the Zipper car. Really creative on B.A.R's part.
I do remember B.A.R running the 555 livery in China a couple years ago. I really loved the colors. The driver overalls with the yellow/blue 555 branding also looked great.

Kinda sucks with Honda hiding their car under all that black paint....makes it hard to see the unique curves. From what I can tell, though, it's got some huge aero boards forward of the intakes and every team is going crazy with the airflow deflectors just in front of the rear wheels.
I do like the level of originality going on!
Massa crashes new Ferrari at Vallelunga
Friday, January 26th 2007, 11:35 GMT
The Ferrari team continued to be hampered by poor luck in testing at the Vallelunga circuit after Felipe Massa crashed the new F2007 this morning.
The Italian squad have been testing at the circuit near Rome since last Tuesday, but the poor weather conditions have made it impossible for the team to complete their scheduled programme.
Ferrari were again hit by rain this morning, and things were made only worse when Massa crashed the F2007 when he went off the track at the Roma corner, the final one before the main straight.
The Brazilian escaped unscathed, but the car sustained heavy damage to the front end.
Teammate Kimi Raikkonen was also in action, but the Finn had completed very limited running due to the poor weather.

Toro Rosso expect to confirm drivers soon
By Jonathan Noble and Pablo Elizalde Friday, January 26th 2007, 15:18 GMT
Scuderia Toro Rosso team owner Gerhard Berger expects to announce their drivers for the 2007 season in two weeks time.
"I think in the next two weeks," the Austrian told autosport.com about the date of the announcement.
"It is more a question of firming up the deals," he added.
Toro Rosso are the only team yet no confirm their drivers, but Berger confirmed on Friday that Tonio Liuzzi and Scott Speed were still on pole position to keep their seats.
Berger also said the team are still undecided on whether they will run a third driver next season, with the focus now being securing the deals with the race drivers.
"At the moment we are just focused on the two race drivers, and then we will look to see if we used a third driver or not. It is still open," he said.
Although Speed and Liuzzi remain favourites to stay at the team in 2007, Berger has made no secret of the possibility to hire Champ Cap champion Sebastien Bourdais in 2008.
The Frenchman tested for the team at the end of last year, and Berger said Toro Rosso plan to give him more track time in 2007.
"We are definitely going to try him again," Berger said. "But at the moment we are totally focused to get our car ready, so probably during the year. But with the limited testing regulations it is not easy - we want to give the maximum mileage to our drivers."
Speaking about the team's chances for the season ahead, Berger was quick to play down expectations, despite Toro Rosso's switch to Ferrari engines.
"Well, we have to be careful at the end of the day we are a very small operation," he said. "We are 130 people in the operation. It is going to be difficult to squeeze the lemon to the maximum.
"What is clear is we are going to have a better car than last year and we are going to have a better car than last year and hopefully we are going to have better drivers this year than last year because if we stay with Tonio and Scott they are both in their second year, so we should improve.
"Saying this, from the back we saw at the end a quite strong Aguri, and they are doing a good homework, so to stay ahead of them is going to take us all efforts.
"And ahead of us is Williams, and Williams is a 600 people operation and to really be able to overtake them could be difficult for us, but at least to compete with them could be some fun."
I really love the look of the RBR3 too. Even if its not as fast as it looks, its still awesome looking. I need to get a widescreen copy of those prints though.
It looks more likely that TL and SS will get the drives for STR. They both have deals were they have to drive something, so I doubt (read: hope) that they are still in position to get the drive.

Thanks for the pic Westcle, that girl holding the whell is very cute. Still pretty bland compaired to the Honda wheel but still very cool.
The RB3 looks very good and that team may surprize us this year. But the driver picture makes DC's head look like a cube, lol. I know he has a very square jaw line but with him standing beside Webber and the angle just over exagerates it.

Berger not worried...
Berger unfazed by customer car row
By Jonathan Noble Saturday, January 27th 2007, 14:58 GMT
Scuderia Toro Rosso co-owner Gerhard Berger is adamant that his team's plans to run a customer car this year is perfectly within the rules and says he is 'relaxed' about any legal action that may be taken by rivals against his team.
Frank Williams warned Toro Rosso and Super Aguri in last week's meeting of the F1 team principals that he would go to arbitration if the two outfits pressed ahead with plans to effectively chassis-share. Spyker have already made it clear that they too are considering legal action.
But despite the legal threats, and the possibility of a showdown over the situation at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix, Berger insists that he is not worried about his rivals' feelings.
"Williams or the other competitors are not the people who tell the FIA the rules, and we are not either," he told autosport.com during a visit to the Red Bull Racing launch at Barcelona on Friday.
"At the end of the day, the FIA or a judge has to do it. I am relaxed, because there is nothing I can do about it anyway.
"We are doing what we are doing, we are doing what we believe is right to do, and it is not Williams who can tell us what is right or wrong."
Toro Rosso plan to race a development version of the same RB3 chassis that Red Bull Racing will use this year.
They have got around the regulations that state teams must design and produce their own cars because the chassis is made by an independent company, Red Bull Technology, and not the Red Bull Racing team.
"We think we are in the regulations with what we are doing," said Berger, who confirmed that he had consulted with the FIA about their plans.
"At the end of the day, maybe a judge has to decide if we are right or wrong. But it is definitely not the competitor that has the right to say you are legal or not legal, because it is not his job."
When asked whether he expected his car to be protested in Melbourne, Berger said: "Whatever they do, there is nothing we can do.
"We made the decision a long time ago that we go this route, and we checked very carefully with different legal people, with an open view about everything.
"We got always a similar answer: that the way the regulation is written, how the Concorde Agreement is written, it should fit in perfectly with what we are doing."
Berger said he also believes that rivals Super Aguri, who want to race a development version of Honda Racing's RA106, were within the regulations.
"They are doing it a completely different way, but I don't look too hard because for me we have the FIA, we choose the FIA to look at it.
"I don't want to play the policeman. If Frank likes to play the policeman then fine, but maybe he should be the FIA president then or something.
"So I am totally fine with what Aguri is doing, as long as the FIA find it right. Otherwise they will react.
"Look, who is really complaining? It is Williams and Spyker, and they are both nervous that they will end up behind us."
