Shaved, wire tucked, and custom engine bays? part 18

1breel 08-06-2011 04:45 PM
Yes that hole, theres another on top of one of the runners.

I'm not shure if I need one. I picked up a 70mm billit throttle body. The intake manifold needs to be bored out about 10mm more.
bolt pattern is different for mine.
Quadsbc 08-06-2011 05:34 PM

It's not that far off but a spacer would probably be the easiest way to fix the problem. Did you mount the throttle body upsidedown? I think it would look a lot cleaner and be easier to hide the wires.

that's a rig-shot and is literally done at crawling speed or less... (people crawling, not car crawling)

Was rhetorical...

But really, that level of clean means little driving... no rain... water spots are a bitch...

I hardly drive my car and can't keep that level of clean... I also have to deal with a lot more dust and dirt where I'm at VS the "city"... but yeah, that **** ain't easy...
Smurftastic 08-07-2011 04:17 PM

So I'm thinking about starting this process, but more than anything am concerned about maintenance and upkeep following the tuck. I read about diagnostics and troubleshooting being a bitch after moving things around.

Also, for those of you living in mild to cold climates, did you dislike relocating your windshield wiper fluid reservoir to the trunk during winter times? That engine sure does warm that fluid up nice :)
D Money 08-07-2011 04:39 PM
Is your wiper cowl a one off?
Yes.
Do you even drive your car :unamused:
Yes, 1,000 miles on it since May and that's with it being down for a month.
^so you haven't seen the pic of him driving his car in the rain without wipers?
I can't tell if you're being funny or not, but I did drive it 100miles to street wars in the rain, won best in show, best jdm, best subaru, and best engine bay and then drove it to Philly, and then back home which was another 100miles.
You do realize that in that pic the car is going maybe 1 mph.
This is true. But what about this one on the NJ parkway. I guess the next thing people will say is I have air bags and I really don't drive with it less then 1" off the ground? hehe

False. If you keep up with cleaning the car, it is easy. I also have a climate controled garage for it so I can pretty much do whatever I want in it.

Mine is getting there. Next step is to cut out the last few extra brackets, then clean it up and start welding everything shut.

On the WRX when you take out the fuse box you smaller/shorter loom, does that loom connect into the back of the ecu? if so can you unplug it without any problems?

I havent stripped out the carpet yet to see wher it goes, I ran out of time at the weekend.

Thanks

just to keep this thread going...

Soldering wires together or crimp connectors? I would have thought solder, what do you recommend.

Ricey
xxscaxx 08-18-2011 11:28 AM

I always solder my wires...stronger/better connection (if done properly, of course). I also think it depends on what wire you are soldering, some things you can get away with crimp connections. They even have ones now that have solder in them so that would be a good option for someone who can't solder or doesn't have the equipment to.
fallehero_08 08-18-2011 12:56 PM

if your going to crimp, i always use rc solder glue on the tips of the wires, and use good quality crimps, not autozone crap. there is a lot of good stuff at boat stores or any audio store. i always shrink wrap over the whole thing either way. a tip for shrink wrapping is to use a butane lighter, not a zippo or bic, because they will burn the wrap or leave the black soot on them.

Anybody delete their abs? Any suggestions on running lines? Tips?
Ethan_Drift 08-22-2011 10:14 PM

Idk if anyone has been watching, but ChaseBays is getting ready to relase their Subaru product line. Probably gonna include Brake MC delete, Brake line relocation, ABS delete, CM2 Harness with Mil-Spec Bulkhead. Just to name a few =]
D Money 08-23-2011 10:19 AM

^Yeah, ask Chris dunbar (dudley123) how well his chase bays tuck is working. The car won't even fire and Chase never checked it before he shipped the car back to California. :(

I have always been a fan of chases tucks and services on Hondas, but idk about him in the subaru market.
Anybody delete their abs? Any suggestions on running lines? Tips?
Did you read into this thread? lol Multiple people have done abs relocations but there are only a few (including myself) who have done a abs delete.

I was going to post a tutorial on it including part numbers and such, but I do not want to get involved in helping someone with that. If you're not skilled or know what you're doing, you can seriously injure yourself in the event of a brake malfunction. I don't want that liability.

Thats bad!!

I was looking forward to seeing the loom tuck too. I've starting stripping my spare loom, just need to decide where I want to locate the Fuse box, thinking the glove box for easy access.

I always use flux to clean the wire and get good penetration of the solder followed by a little bit of RTV in the heat shrink to keep moisture out.
