Shaved, wire tucked, and custom engine bays? part 9

tino 11-12-2009 05:34 AM

Update 12/11/2009

Went to check on the engine bay, we are nearly there engine bay is in primer and spots sanded and readied again for primer. Engine bay should hopefully be painted tomorrow, then fuel lines and ABS lines looked at. Will post up pics on updates. Hoping to get the car back Monday/Tuesday to install the engine.

tino, you should get the beatrush subframe or something.
and dont put your abs back in!
run some custom hard lines using T's splitting the front and rear brakes.

Have u got a link to the subframe? We had to modify the stock frame in order to fit the low mount turbo setup. Basically chopped the subframe and strenghed it over stock by square tubing.

The car is a road car and will be driven abs is a legal requirement. However u won't see the abs unit or lines as they are being hidden underneath the chassis.

Beatrush subframe: http://www.rallysportdirect.com/shop/beatrush-wrxsti-super-light-subframe-p-3065.html

Put one in my friends wrx and it is a great piece. Lighter than stock, stronger, and great build quality.
D Money 11-12-2009 11:32 PM

I was never a fan of the beatrush subframe. I have the carbing one but I painted it to match the color of the car since white is kinda beat. lol

I really like those custom ones with lots of mounting points like the oswald performance one. Look into that!

Very nice but it wont work with my low mount turbo setup.. I have to stick with my NA subframe and modified front frame for now..

I had installed the Do-luck front subframe (same with carbing) and then the summit subframe reinforcement brace (3 pice set) (same with GTspec, but diferrent color) before...:D

Oswald performance front subframe it won't work with tino's turbo setup like many other subframes...;)
Young Griffs 11-13-2009 01:30 PM

^So you can run the doluck/carbing with the gtspec 3 piece set? I may do that! Links George!!!
tino 11-14-2009 01:20 AM

Engine bay has been painted. Looks absoultely amazing pics do not do it justice at all. Still needs to be wet rubbed back then flow coated for the final finish.

Getting the ABS and fuel lines hopefully sorted monday/tueseday and engine put in on Wedsnday.

Pick a theme and go with it ^^^^ too many different colors going on there
Pick a theme and go with it ^^^^ too many different colors going on there
True. It can get messy real quick when buying performance parts from several different manufacturers who all use different colours...

I have chosen to strip down every single component in the engine bay and chrome what I can, and paint black what I cant... I think the black/chrome theme is one of the sickest around!

The pics I have seen so far in this thread are awesome!! Keep up the good work guys. The smooth look is wicked, however I just don't like the idea of so much body filler being used, its prone to cracking and can make what was once a beautiful looking bay fresh from the paintshop a nasty, cracked, obviously full of bog mess... Hopefully this will never happen to you guys but I see it from time to time and the only way to fix it is to do it all again!

I'm in 2 minds whether to do some smoothing in my bay, but I think I'll just seam seal where it would've been done from the factory and leave the flutes in the inner guards. I'll just use blanking plugs for the extra holes. I have however removed the brackets for the washer bottle and the horns, washer will be relocated under guard and horns to centre support panel beneath bonnet catch... The ABS unit is mostly chrome with black detailing and on the other side I will just have the battery and fusebox.

Sorry for a long post, but I'll finish on this note; there are a lot of cars that are much easier to detail than a Subaru, but few can match its appeal!!

I didnt do the job, but there are black colour on the outside of the engine bay which suggest to me that they have sprayed something to prevent rust..

Leo, those two silvas look awesome! I love how the color matched the engine block to the car's paint. I did that on my old eclipse but the color didn't lay the same on the iron block as it did on the engine bay so I didn't do it this time around on the subaru.

We might as well make this thread dedicated to any shaved bay, no matter the car make. I like seeing other bays complete.
