Is there any issues with the ABS being relocated to the fender?
Like if I were to hit a puddle would it cause any damage?

I can't see why. I mean you'd be better off putting like a box around it or something because it does have a big harness that attaches to it. You better hope that the harness reaches wherever you put it in the fender because OMG, there is a TON of wires you'd have to extend. Also, don't forget the abs pump requires soo many more lines so that means double, maybe triple the amount of flaring, not to mention fittings. It could really suck, but maybe ask Tino on that.
Also, you still won't have a completely clean bay because you need to run all those brake lines across the firewall to wherever you have the abs pump at. Essentially, all you would be doing is freeing up a 5"x5" spot on your passenger fender area.

Main reason why I'm doing it is because, as you can see at the pic I posted earlier, my intake sits right on the lines of the ABS and burns thru the intake which makes me go thru intakes like underwear :(. (I don't see myself going with a rotated set up anytime soon either)
But it does sound like I'm better off just deleting that whole ****. And I'm not going for a bay like you homie, lol just something nice to show off at a Sonic meet or two :p

Youve got the fender lining to cover the car from puddles and shouldnt be an issue imo...

I didnt extend any wires on the loom for the ABS theres a heap of loom which is looped inside the fender, just undo that and it should give you enough length.. This is the same for the other side of the loom also, tons of length dont need to extend..
The only lines i have are 2 from the booster which go into the strut area, and one which runs along the firewall near the gearbox can hardly see that also... This is about the cleanest you can do it imo without removing it entirely and for legalities you must have it in there for a road registered car..

^ i think im going to take a stab at relocating that. it doesnt seem like it will be that big of a pain (then again im probably eating my words haha).
I'm also just trying to free up room, and i REALLY want to move that out of the way just for the sake of my damn power steering reservoir. my big maf sits on top of it and it drives me nuts.
i'd have to cover up my ABS with a cover because well, my fender liner has seen better days

True but from riding around so low for so long I ate thru the fender lining, actually starting rubbing into the frame :o
I also hate how the ABS engages. I feel like it kicks in prematurely and makes things worse when braking (not hard either, also read it was a common thing on bugeyes).

Check my build thread ive taken heaps of pics of where i relocated it.. That was the best position we thought of.. Even used the standard abs bracket and welded a bracket to bolt it up.. very simple..
The lines werent too hard to do, especially if you have a pipe bender. Mine were done rushed by hand for a car show, so i may improve on their looks at a later stage..

yeah i've peaked at your thread a bunch of times actually, but i will go back and take a look. i love that damn V mount setup:banana:
i dont have a pipe bender, but am sure i can get my hands on one. I'll be sure to pop in and ask some questions if im unsure of anything. i might wait a little until i pull my motor out as im doing a "mini" motor build.

Yeah you did it pretty clean. It depends on where you mount the abs, but in the fender there is plenty of slack in the wiring to reach. If he mounted it in the wiper cowl, oh boy would that be a mess. lol
I know you don't need to extend wires for the fuse box and wires on the driver side, however you should have had to extended the passenger side headlight harness to reach the other side, no?

Tino, in your thread, you make note that you have to get the tubes specially flared for the ABS. care to explain this? i know what flaring is but i just want to know what you had flared, since you only mentioned needing to bend the pipes to re-route it.
| D Money | 03-10-2010 04:19 PM |
You need to flare every single end of the brake line that goes to a fitting. So anything to the brake proportioning valve, anything to the abs, anything to the mc's, to the front brakes, etc.
| xxscaxx | 03-10-2010 04:25 PM |
oh, gotcha. im not familiar with removing the system so i was just assuming u unbolt, re-bend the pipes, and then bolt back up.
| girodisc | 03-10-2010 05:34 PM |
You could do that if you were just dropping the ABS pump down. You will need a nice bender though you kink the line your muffed. If it were me I would make them from scratch and put them where you want them. I plan to mount the Battery and ABS pump in the Celaru behind the rear passenger seat. I'll put the engine fuse box back there to so the only wiring going forward will be for the engine, headlights, and rad fans. That is a lot easier to conceal. I got this super nice brake line tube bender and flaring thing from the eastwood catalog.

Yup what d said..
We just started with new lines for the most part from the engine bay to the ABS unit and got them after we got the right size flared professionally so they get a perfect seal.
We also used the OEM connectors (nut) to screw into the ABS unit to make sure we had a perfect seal.

I believe it is because it is a Bugeye.. I know that my bugeye only had one breather port on each head that connected together and then dumped back into the intake.

Yeah, but I have an sti block so I need to weld on to other bungs onto my -an head plates. It will be two -8an behind the block to -8an tee, then -8an to can, then -12an back to block. The other port will be -8an through the middle of the intake mani to -8an tee, then -10an push lock to block.

no no, just behind the intake manifold, right behind the heads. I ran 90 degree fittings off that part of the head plate.

The fuse box is hard to relocate, unless you're looking to just put it in the fender without extending wires. Mine is under my driver seat.

Haha, sorry. I work where we can use scales for all for corners of a car (not intended to, but it does the job :D ).
I figured it would be hard to relocate that, but I'd really like to do it. So it fits under the driver seat, I never though of that one, I like that idea a lot.
Do you happen to have any pictures available?

We have scales and I guess we can do that. I will let you know once we re-align the car and corner balance it.
It fits under my seats, but probably not a factory seat. I have bride stradia which have a pretty big opening underneath so it was enough for the fuse box to be mounted. I will take pics of it at work on Tuesday. It's nice, flush mounted with a crossover, on carpeted wood. Came out nice!

I don't want to get too involved with this though, i'm going to relocate the abs to where Tino did and probably a few minor other things. D, Wayno, brcewayne gurus, any help or advice would be appreciated. If you want to take it to a PM that would be fine too.
What i'm most concerned about is the holes left over from pulling things out. I love how brcewayne made those fiberglass molds, but i've never used fiberglass so i'm not sure how that would come out
I know i'm being pretty vague, but i am not too sure where to start. D, i like what you did with the breather lines, did you need to make some sort of custom plate to connect the an fittings to? did you have to extend the harness to get most of the wires hidden? (like the main connection on either side).
battery is already in the trunk, washer fluid gone, and i used to have my abs box in the fender but i didnt like how my engine bay seemed out of balance since the right side was empty and the left wasn't so i moved it back. But that can go back into the fender. How are you running the wire from the fuse box that originally connected to the positive terminal of the battery? right now i have a little distribution block that runs to the alternator, my hellas, and the fuse box. I hate that thing and want to move it/get rid of it.

I'm confused, you want to shave just a few holes or do a full shave like our cars? You could even clean it up, paint it, and leave the stock holes/bumps and it would look good.
I have to post new pics of my breather system, because it changed. I added a second -8an port that goes in between the manifold to the center port on the 2.5L.
IMO, i'd delete the abs before i'd re-locate it and make all those new lines. Making 5-6 lines for the abs delete is much easier then the 20 you'd have to do for the abs relocate lol
I'm willing to help you out man, just let me know.

Agreed... re-routing ABS is a PITA!!

Can you imagine that Tim? Re-doing about 20 lines and flaring all those connections to metric fittings? LMAO, i'd rather die.
PS- My entire ABS delete cost $275 with polished SS line, SS fittings, annodized blue flare nuts, and wilwood adjustable brake proportioning valve.

yeah, I took a quick look over and it just uses cheaper stuff like brass fittings and rolled up line. The sizes and stuff look right, but what car is that for?

This is what I used for my abs delete. Let me know if you have questions on where things go. It doesn't show up well on a post, but in word it's organized. It has the description, quantity in (), and part number. Hope this helps!

One line from the master goes to the proportioning valve to adjust bias in the rear. The second line from the master essentially gets "T"'d to the fronts.

i'm not really sure haha I am never able to make my mind up. I wanted to relocate it because i don't necessarily want to get rid of it. Convince me otherwise - is it a big deal losing the ABS?
I'd love to do a full shave (or close to it), but i just don't have the funds to get too involved. I'm going to be spending a lot more than i want on my motor build so i just figured what the hell, while the motor is out, lets get some **** out of the way.
