Boot: FIA approved well cell, two fuel pumps one filter all ptfe lines, in fact everyline on the car is braided or ptfe now. Window wash bottle too on the right.

Typically a junk yard, or if you can handle the work check out aeromotive.us

Just don't try to deal with chasebays as they suck

thank you, been building it for 2 years after blowing the engine, nearly done now. Stealth that car in your reply is absolutely insane, so clean where the hell is everything hidden!
erok81 11-14-2013 11:29 PM

Here is mine. I got really sick of doing it towards the end and it suffered a bit. Mine isn't as good as a lot of others in this thread, but I wanted to keep my ac and ps.

I also think it's too black. So I'm going to shave a stock manifold and polish it. But the. Got thinking a chrome powdercoat would be easier. Then thought...well the two pinks don't match so maybe I'll get the pink stuff and the manifold powdercoated some bright color. Maybe metallic purple? I have a bunch if blue stuff (hoses and filter) but blue is kind of lame. But then again a chrome manifold would look good too. Hmm...
mcmikecruz 11-14-2013 11:54 PM

That chrome powder coat sucks , I had the jdm one done then stripped it

Nice clean look very similar to mine.

Have you driven the car yet, i'm interested in how the oil cooler performs, do you have any problems with it mounted on top of the engine?

Haven't had any problems with the oil cooler. Works perfectly.
kpluiten 11-19-2013 05:57 PM

I don't know if it was coincidence of not, but I knew three STi's with those coolers installed and all 3 spun bearings shortly after install. I thought it might have something to do with oil draining out of it while the car sits and it sending air through the system with every start up. Again, I do not know this for sure, but seeing 3 for 3 fail with spun bearings (which is rare on the EJ257 relative to other failures), it makes me nervous.

The factory oil coolers were always mounted much lower in the bay I think. The factory coolers also have a thermostat setup that tends to keep the cooler more full of oil when the car is off and doesn't send a huge shot of air through the motor as oil fills it. At leas this has been my observations with my Spec-C setup.
kpluiten 11-19-2013 06:08 PM

Also, I can't begin to hold a candle to most of you guys, but mine is my humble work in progress. Actually, I'm not even sure if I belong in here with most of you! I wasn't going for the full tucked look (though I think it's awesome). I simply wanted a very clean, functional and organized bay.

Suggestions appreciated.

The car is a 2006 WRX wagon with a 2005 STi swap and a EJ207. And a lot more I guess. Build thread: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2061849

Are you using the spec c adapter (thermostat) in your setup or something like mocal ? I was going to mount my Spec C cooler on top but now you made me paranoid. :(
kpluiten 11-19-2013 06:27 PM

I am using the Spec-C adapter (came with my EJ207) and a core that is very similar in dimensions to the Spec-C unit. I mounted it on the face of the condenser approximately in the factory location.

Here is my setup:

It has a thermostat in line so all the oil won't drain. Also when you shut off a motor all the oil in the motor drains to the pan anyways so it would make no difference. Also I know the oil stays in it after it is shut off because I've had to pull it once and it made a damn big mess lol.

Cool, cool. And again, I don't know how the other one's I saw were installed exactly, but the results were all the same. Motors were toast. I did ask one guy if there was a check valve or anything of that nature and he said there wasn't. I'm not sure if that meant no thermostat either.

There is a difference on a stock motor draining oil to the pan though I would think. When this happens on a stock motor (stock oiling system), the volume of oil needed to be pumped through the motor to "re-prime" all the empty passages would be much smaller than what would be needed to fill 5-7 feet of -6AN (is that the size?) line. I could see the time to pressure going from fractions of a second to a couple of seconds. This could be too long.

But a thermostat should help if it opens somewhat gradually like the factory one does as far as I know through my reading (though I'll admit I never took it apart or studied it's operation in great depth on the car). I know the factory one allows the car to run like there is no oil cooler unit temperature is reached. I would assume your thermostat works the same way.

Almost done with fitting up the ChaseBays brake kit, then time to shave and paint
Rogue_P 11-25-2013 10:43 AM

FWIW, unless Chase has changed the kit recently, his power steering kit is FAR from plug-n-play. I think I spent an extra $80-$100 to make it right. Then got the run-around from Chase's people.

If someone has bought the kit within the last year, and it wasn't a total mess, please feel free to speak up. Don't want to poo on Chase's business, just want to warn folks.

------------------

Did anyone get a definitive answer as to whether or not the ABS unit can be mounted in an alternate orientation? It would be infinitely easier in my setup to mount it sideways.

ALSO, are there any issues with replacing all those brake hard lines with braided stainless? The Honda kids do it a lot, but most of those kids are hard-parkers and don't care about degraded performance.
under0athh51189 11-25-2013 08:36 PM

It must have all been fixed. Did the PS lines a few months back and had no problems. I got the cooler and all. And the abs booster delete as well has been fixed. They have an adapter piece to make the wilwood reach the pedal since our pedals are further away than normal cars. Everything seems to fit and work well. Just did my clutch line as well from them and fits very nice

I use a spot weld drill bit, much easier and better to use than a hammer and chisel or regular drill bit.

Chasebays is local to me, I've done work for him, and he does work for me. Hes products are good and he stands behind them. If you had issues with the kit I know he will help you out. I'd be the first to say, even when I make SS hard brake lines, it has to be perfect or it will leak, I've redone a few on my setup. But again, when running his kit, either hardlines or the flex line, your rebuilding your entire brake setup, Not an easy or fast job, requires alot of patience to get right . Let me know what kind of problems you have heard or seen first hand, I will make sure Chase knows about the problem and to be addressed if its quality issue. Feel free to PM me, I'll be at his shop this week.

But also glad to see this kind of work coming to the suby crowd! I just tucking the brake lines cleans the engine bay up greatly. Keep up the good work.

No problem, still willing to help. I have a lot of ideas also since prior to parting the car out the bay was getting a total makeover.

Looks good man. Only have one question. Why spend all that time and money on making the engine look dope but don't smooth the bay when you shave it. Seems like a waste of time to spray it and fill the holes without smoothing the bay.

None the less looks awesome

Truth be told the bay was shaved by the body shop while I was in Afghanistan and it was somewhat of a miscommunication by the time I got back it was just a little to late to change it
