Shaved, wire tucked, and custom engine bays? part 49

Splinter 02-16-2015 09:45 AM
Anyone have a good source for custom length high pressure AN lines? (Brake lines).

Please don't say Jegs or Summit or (insert retail chain). Looking for great prices on custom lengths.
An lines or brake lines? They're not normally the same thing.

In the past if I've had a hose I didn't want to make myself, I just took it to a local hydraulic shop.
Big-Sexy907 02-16-2015 05:54 PM

Alright fellas, what are guys doing with the transmission harness? I've determined I can't run a large cannon connector and run all the wires for the engine and transmission through them...

Sent from my iPhone using NASIOC
Big-Sexy907 03-03-2015 08:31 PM

Come on guys, whats up with these cannon connectors?
datson-z 03-17-2015 10:31 PM

^^^^ I'm wandering the same thing. Actually, where is everyone running there harnesses. Is it just one opening in the firewall, or under the frame maybe, leading to original Entrance in to cab? I plan on keeping everything and pretty much have it planed where everything is going to go.

I love soldering, but IV never done a wiring harness before. I have 4 months till I can get my transmission so time isn't an issue. Can I just start shortening/lengthening wires or beware of shielded wires? Please and thank you for any advice given

Lookin good KNS! I like the mounting of the IAG AOS. You're going to see something released from them for a pitchmount soon... and I can say with confidence, they did a beautiful job.
Splinter 04-02-2015 09:24 AM

ooo shiny! My engine goes in this weekend, so the car should be mobile again in about 3-4 weeks so I can finally start finishing my engine bay at the shop at work. I also got my aluminum foundry going so I can start custom casting my own shiny bits :D

You guys are making me so proud! So many cool ideas and bays popping up. Keep up the good work, i'll check back in the next couple months!

Through a hole I didn't shave because originally prior to the custom intercooler kit. I did my bay in 2009. I started this thread and was first to shave a subaru bay lol Now it's very common and many have really awesome and unique bays.

I did have plans to re-do the car in 2011 but quit and parted it out. I had planned for a custom low mount turbo kit in the brake duct, false fire wall with shaved wiper cowl and floating windshield, headlight buckets, and just the motor sitting in the middle with nothing around it. But like i said, i quit. Lol

What are some options for hiding the fuel lines coming off the driver strut tower?
Splinter 04-17-2015 11:31 PM

Actually hiding them is pretty tricky, but this is what I'm doing:

My AWIC will sit right over them, not invisible but not super obvious either.

EG33 from a 92 Subaru SVX, the manifold is split into two chambers with a valve dividing the two halves, it opens at certain RPM to effectively dynamically change the length of the runners. Pretty neat.

Nearly ready to fire it up and take it to our shop so I can finish the sheet metal work. Everything is still just roughed in. All thats left to add though is the intercooler piping and crank evap piping.

Going to be a very empty engine bay.
ScoobyBlack 05-01-2015 01:52 AM

Here's where I'm at. I still need to relocate the fuse box. I'm going to consolidate the driver-side wires a bit, and try running the pass-side wires through a different hole in the firewall. I was able to remove quite a bit between the battery/AC/Coolant Res/etc. though. It's slowly getting there.

Can anyone tell me what those 3 rigid "knuckle looking" indentations in the engine bay on the side of the frame. Both the passenger and driver side front; whats the purpose? Want to smooth them out if possible.
ScoobyJD 05-19-2015 12:21 AM

Subaru puts them there as a crunch zone in case of a front end collision
richy_21 05-19-2015 02:13 PM

Interesting... Thanks JD
ScoobyJD 05-19-2015 06:36 PM

Any time. If you also look at the hood it has them there as well but in different shapes. Even the steering column is designed to break in half.
richy_21 05-21-2015 01:13 AM

So Dave informed me that the abs can rerouted under the fender. The lines can also be rerouted with minimal bending? I went thru this thread but I'm not gonna lie it was late. Probably missed it being talked about.
Smurftastic 05-21-2015 08:25 AM

I think there may be a few individual posts about it on RS25, but for now this is all I could find (btw this thread is full of good information and examples): http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showpost.php?p=36508919&postcount=56

Here is a picture of a relocation:

I have read that a handful of people who've inverted the ABS pump have been able to bend the original lines to fit, but never have found a good example for routing through the firewall and down around the passenger quarterpanel.

I actually still have the abs mounted there and hooked up but just removed all the brake lines.

I will get my fender off and get a picture posted for you richy.

The black supports that are sticking out in this picture are placed the opposite way on mine a crushed between the lower fame and body of my car. There is one bolt there I loosened, slid the support in there, and then tightened everything back down. I added one additional metal brace on the other as you can see in my picture above using the same bolt thread/washer that was already there on the support bracket. You can kick that thing and it wont move.

As for the lines I removed them when I put in the chasebays kit but when they were hooked up and I had made a circular hole right behind the passenger strut tower. Shielded the lines and bent them back and then through that hole over to the abs. The distribution block was almost located in the same spot as it was in the engine bay but on the inside of the fender well. Only thing showing was the brake lines across the fire wall.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Got the AWIC core and sheet aluminum shipped to me, so hopefully I'll have that all together in a couple weeks. Over the july long weekend I'm planning on pulling the engine back out and going back over all my awful welds and then applying sealant to smooth everything out. Need to deal with the extra wire on the ignition and injector connectors. But I wanted to make sure it was running smoothly before I did that.

Pretty much 100% decided to relocate the radiator to the trunk too.

This is how it looks right now, been driving it to work for the past week or so.

Thats dual TB manifold is insane Splinter!

What are the small pipes going across the headlights and where did you put your master cylinder?
Splinter 06-17-2015 09:15 AM

Thats the stock EG33 maniold. I just shaved it.

The pipes are the prototype hood support. I converted to dual manual brake masters and put them under the dash right on the pedal assembly. I used the stock clutch master and put it under the dash too.
Smurftastic 06-28-2015 11:19 AM

A hell of a lot less impressive than a lot of the custom fabrication going on in here, but just repainted from flat black back to blue. Realized it just looked cleaner. Not sure where I'll mount the custom fabbed upper reservoir tank yet or whether or not to put the strut bar back on..

Question for you guys. On the driver side inner fender that lip that sticks out where the fuse box use to sit. Did you guys trim that lip with the grinder/dremel before you put on the sheet metal? I'm probably going to trim it so the panel will sit flush before we weld it. just want to make sure that's correct.

Question. I have a 2005 wrx with a pretty shaved bay. I got a bigger turbo, but I am hitting the passenger side brake lines that come up the strut tower to this awkwardly large connector, then attaches to the rear lines and tucks behind the strut tower. Is this awkward connector have some sort of adjustments in it that I wouldnt be able to remove it or can I just get some connectors and straight connect those 2 brake lines.

Smurftastic, I used your recent pic because it clearly shows the part I am asking about. Please see picture.
