Shaved, wire tucked, and custom engine bays? part 44

05subysti 05-19-2014 10:57 AM

^^ do you at least remember the size tub?
Serkan 05-19-2014 12:32 PM

Seems like these fenders are universal in N. America. They should have 29" and 31" either should work.
^^ do you at least remember the size tub?
sorry for the delayed response i never check this.

I think they were like a foot wide and all of the radius on the fenders are al the same. Or at least all the ones i have seen. I narrowed mine and then tacked them up and trimmed the fat.

Primed the bay and body of the car this weekend. I have my paint and i am hopefully going to give it the full color change this week!

25rsti 06-02-2014 03:00 PM

Awesome deal. I wonder what I can trade....
cubuff 06-13-2014 12:49 PM

Here is my contribution:
big bore, LA Sleeve'd, +4 rods, lowmount turbo, everything else is completely built. I removed ABS, covered unused holes, hid all nitrous solenoids and cleaned up the routing of the lines, relocated fuse box, made panels to access fusebox on drivers side and panel to access scavenge pump on passenger side. AN fittings on everything... Coolant lines, all block and head breather ports etc, harness was completely redone and stripped of anything unused. Forgetting a lot but.... Here it is! not perfect, not horrible and all done myself which makes it that much better for me.

Pretty much as is sits today. All nitrous solenoids and lines are ran in this picture. So that will clean up a lot as you will see in the next picture down.

Here is a decent shot of them. They are just cutouts. The rest of the panel behind it is cutout except for 4 spots to secure fasteners. I have welded mounting points to the back to mount the fuse box to.

 That is a rally chassis you are looking at. I don't think they care if it looks a little cluttered from far.
3mlwhly 06-16-2014 02:44 PM

^^^^ that makes sense. I thought those top hats looked like rally parts. That's damn clean for a rally car!!!!
3mlwhly 06-16-2014 02:49 PM

Don't forget this is shaved and tucked thread, so I hope I can be forgiven for not thinking about it being a rally car and for noticing the lack of tucking

Not sure what else could be cleaned up with that car. Everything has been eliminated from what I can see. Its the new "Gobstopper" from RCM its a timeattack car. I think that car is about as clean as it gets. Milspec harness, AN fittings on everything etc. ABS deleted and lines tucked behind the firewall, no power steering I could keep going on and on about what makes that engine bay awesome.
3mlwhly 06-17-2014 10:04 AM

I'm not saying it's not nice it's just setup like a race car to be worked on easily. Not for all show which would be hiding everything, which is a pain in the ass to work on. I see I've started some **** here. I knew I should have kept my hands of the key board. Haha

Offcourse. At the end of the day its a race car. But, easily can say its a very good balance of show and go fast.

Agreed
Fat Boy P1 06-18-2014 11:14 AM

"Shaved, wire tucked, and CUSTOM engine bay" thread according to the title - I think it creeps in on that basis?

As pointed out - yep, its the Gobstopper II ; RCM's new race car. I can only dream that it was mine...

Not a full on (everything tucked) show queen, but given that it's probably the fastest impreza round a track in the world it's pretty damn fine just the same:) Nothing that isn't 100% required is there.

With 8 injectors AND nitrous, there is a lot of plumbing to handle under the bonnet.

For those of you who might be interested in more about GS II (e.g. I'm not a shaver and tucker myself, but I do appreciate the work and looks achieved by you guys) there's a good article here explaining more about the build. mks949 06-19-2014 02:04 PM

my god so much awesomeness. one day I will build a track oriented subie when the funds will allow. lol. i need some sweet bulk head fittings like the ones on the gobstopper since im not shaving my firewall.

Finally got her out in the sun recently. The color changes quite a bit. Here it almost looks WRB but it is farrrr from WRB.

Okay guys...help me out here. What else can I do to make this look cleaner without pulling the engine again. It's a street car so I want to keep the ac, the power steering, and the aos.

It's a little dirty in the pic. So I know I can polish up the paint and what not, but I'm still not close to happy with it. I've thought about ditching the power brakes, ac, and what not, but I think a tucked street car with all that stuff is more impressive. But I am tempted...

Also debating taking a week off of work and pulling the engine then painting the bay a different color. Maybe white. Be as to the point as you want i don't mind. :)

I'm thinking next up is an aluminum radiator and getting rid of that grimspeed radiator shroud.
brcewane 07-02-2014 06:40 AM

Here are some suggestions:
- Paint your AOS black so that it doesn't catch your eye
- Paint your caps (oil, clutch, brake, dipstick) light gray to blend in or get billet replacements
- Change your bright green/yellow/blue zip ties to black
- Remove the stickers from your radiator shroud
- Route some of your hoses under the intake manifold

Basically both color and polish catch your eye.. only have color and polish on the things you want to stand out.
erok81 07-02-2014 11:37 AM

Good call. I was going to go through and see what other hoses I can hide.

What do you think on the shroud...polished or purple?
^do you make a cardboard cutout for templates?
Yes but that's just to get the main shape. A lot of time sanding down to fit the panel right is the key. Took about 3 hours to get this one side exactly how I wanted it. Now just need to match it on the other side

I've got all the same suggestions as stated. I plasti dipped all my yellow caps black and they blend nicely including dipstick. Ditch the radiator shroud looks too bulky and takes up too much room. Put the stock ones back on I did this as well really cleans it up.

As for abs brake booster delete I say do this as well it drives just fine without I did mine with the ChaseBays Kit and love it

The best thing about chase bays is most of the stuff you can piece together easily for half the cost. At least most of the stuff I've been interested in buying.

I bought the Chase PS kit and it was NOT complete and didn't even mount correctly. I extensively modified his kit to make it work properly.
Nah man. The best thing about Chase Bays is the horrible customer service.

Edit: didn't realize dude posted the same thing 2 posts up.

I bought the Chase PS kit and it was NOT complete and didn't even mount correctly. I extensively modified his kit to make it work properly.
are your required mods documented anywhere? Curious on what's required.
I think you're the only person that had a good experience with chase...
I have a full chasebays wiring harness that blew up a motor because it had the the coil packs wired to the injectors and vice versus! They are the biggest piece of shiat company out there they make vivid racing look like saints!

Yeah I heard they **** ed the subaru harness up pretty good. I called them about it and they could barely answer any questions, even basic. I'll stick with Race Spec for my wiring needs.
