There are some things that are easy to tuck away and make the engine bay look good. Mine is a daily driver, its no way near as tucked as some of these other bays in this thread, but the engine bay looks a heck of a lot better than it did stock.
A few easily tuckable items:
Bcs bracket/solenoid
Washer fluid tank (on later models)
Coolant overflow tank
Air pump (on newer models)
Smaller battery/Battery relocation
Fusebox reloaction
Random assortment of jumbled wires

^ Where are you guys putting the fuse box? Are you extending the forty-eleven wires?
| 573 | 09-22-2011 09:23 AM |
I believe most guys are putting it in the fender. Others modify wire lengths and put them under the seat or glove compartment.
| Rice Devil | 09-22-2011 10:32 AM |
Quick question AGAIN! lol
The wires that are shielded how do you lengthen them? I can't remember correctly but is their not a couple from the fuse box? I fancy putting the fuse box in the dash under the air bag cover (don't have an air bag anymore GASP SHOCK HORROR!!)

I put mine in the fender to begin with then I extended the wires an put it under the usdm drivers seat. It gets too dirty in the fender even with the splash gaurd
| 573 | 09-22-2011 02:30 PM |
If I were to relocate mine, I would probably replace all of the shielded wires from connector to connector to connector. In fact, I'd probably do that with all of the wires. Solder and heat shrink are good, but in using that method, you're introducing a point of weakness. However, for most people, that won't really matter.
| arisking | 09-22-2011 02:38 PM |
I extended my wires so my fuse box sits just under my glove box. I just used heat shrink and double tied the wires together. No solder, everything works perfectly.

D- how'd you hide all the wires running to the under hood fuses that were re located to under the seat? Did you run it under the carpet through where the rear heat comes out?

yeah mine run under the carpet along the frame rail, then follow the bump in the floor board and come out in the whole in the carpet under the seat. It's really clean. Once I take my seats out I will snap pics.

Yess I know I need to lengthen the alternator wire and hide the harness better on the driver side...been occupied lately.

Not sure I understand the question. But, here goes. Any coil to go to any cylinder, but the plug for the coil is cylinder specific. The coils are all the ame for all 4 cylinders, only the wiring harness with the plugs for the coils is specific to the location.

This is a terrible idea. You really need to solder the wires. It might work for a while but it will fail. If you're lucky, something will just stop working. If you're not, you could burn the car to the ground.

Surely, there is some way of figuring it out short of buying a new harness. The ECU has to be different pins for the cylinders.

going for the fred flinstone idea. I spun a bearing in my 2.slow, so the idea is going to be a built 2.5l short block, 272 cammed and ported wrx heads, sti tranny, and stock location 35r. I am planning on doing a decent wire tuck, relocating the battery and windshield wash to the trunk, hide some wires, and clean up the bay a bit. But like I said, right now I am more aiming towards the fred flintstone idea...

Wat? A stock location turbo doesn't necessitate that he run a stock location intercooler. Setups being otherwise equal, I think the main reason to go rotated rather than stock location is faster spool.

cheaper turbo options. REAL turbos, not some garret housing stuffed in a mitsubishi TD housing. No restrictive turbo inlet, cheaper, cleans up the engine bay, cheaper...did I mention cheaper and more turbo options? Seriously I dont understand people paying 300 for a ewg stand uppipe then 2k on some stock location turbo, then 200-300 on a turbo inlet thats going to fit like crap. Then 200-400 on a ewg, then bitch about how it doesnt clear their " OMG HUGE 4 inch bell mouth DP" Then bitch because their 300$ turbo inlet doesnt clear without TGV deletes. GO rotated, get a REAL turbo, Get a unrestrictive intake for 20 bucks,**** make our own, and spend the same on the uppipe and dp. UNless your just trying to look stock for your states visual inspection whats the point? Trying to have a "sleeper"? its a ****ing rice rocket and everyone from 9 to 80 years old knows it. /rant

The reason I am running the stock location is because I bought a ATP Gt3582r stock location turbo, turbo inlet, up pipe, tial 44 ewg w/ dump tube/clamps, and dp for $1500. 5500 miles on the turbo. That's why the **** I am running it stock location haha. I plan on getting a turbo blanket for it as well once I am closer to completion of the build.

also, to the people who've deleted their abs, when you delete the connector for it, what do you do to the harness portion? take it out of the ECM connector?
I'm curious, i was thinking the ECM would either notice that the lines weren't giving it a reading and throw some kind of light, or something?
I was wondering that because I wanted to delete AC and wondered if you could just delete the lines from AC, and other things, if it wouldn't cause a cel, or the ECM to act stupid.
