You are not a racer. Why do you even have gauges at all? You don't look at them. Your sentence structure is that of a 8th grader. Why would you think you do not need education? This is the internet and you can type how you want? Wrong, anytime you are speaking to someone you do not know, it's not acceptable. Anyone that did go higher than 8th grade would know this.
Yeah, ScoobaSTieve should of kept his ignorant comments to himself.
First of all, my comments were not ignorant, your responses were ignorant. I was just expressing my opinion that it looked funny and was inquisitive as to any function to the crookedness. I used a bit of dry humor to illicit a heated response (which I got, to my delight). So, I'm not going to say anything more about the gauges being offset, I got my answer in the fray of flames. But how dare you say that autocrossing is not racing! :furious:
BTW... thx for stirring the pot Drewzter... it was very well timed.
when the gauges are off to the side on those bezels, it's natural to have them slightly tilted, it's easy on the eyes while in driver's position. but of course not so easy for the camera or show when everything is standing still. such as those super bright LED on some of those gauges looks cool, but I have no clue how people drive at night with them things shining in the face. BMW, Audi, STi, and others have red gauge lights, because at night, red light has the least effect of your ability to see the roads.
I agree. Part of the reason I love my Nexus gauges is that the red color is a near spot on match to the factory red STi cluster. Another reason I love them is because you can adjust the brightness. I am only dissapointed in the fact that there is no illumination sensor in the control box to automatically dim the gauges by one step when headlights are switched on. Seems like an easy thing to incorporate into those rather expensive gauges. Maybe a future upgrade Autometer?!?!

That display reminds me a lot of the one i'm working on. Right now it's got two temp sensors (probably put them on the IC or as a manual tire temp thing), boost (waiting for the sensor to come in the mail), accelerometer, and oil temp. It'll log all these to USB if plugged in and it cost me under $200 to make. I'm probably going to post the code and instructions to put it together sometime in the future (read: months from now). Maybe it'll be an opensource project type thing if I can get another developer or webmaster.
I've been meaning to post this up but was going to wait for the final install with all the sensors working. Expect an update in the next couple of months.

sti robot, shoot me a PM if you need a hand. I'd love to give you a hand, and make one myself in the process. I'm curious about the PCB, did you design it yourself and send it off for etching? Or did you use an existing product?
| sti robot | 08-11-2007 08:57 PM |
^ its all in the iwsti thread...but to save you time I'm using a arduino http://www.arduino.cc . It programs in a limited version of C and flashes over USB. The sensors I used were ussensor thermistors, an off the shelf isspro oil temp sender (they make one that fits the alternator oil gallery spot perfectly), a freescale (motorola) pressure sensor with onboard OpAmp, and a sparkfun.com accelerometer on breakout board. The screen is an lcd with serial backpack also from sparkfun.

easiest way was to remove the gauge cluster and run the wires from the a-pillar gauges to the clock wires. install was super easy.

K-
oil pressure's important if you have modded the oil system at all, temp not so much unless you decide to run a very old turbo or do a lot of tracking or prolonged racing over 5k rpm like rally or track.
EGT and AFR are more important than any of those, excepting boost depending on your mods.
honestly, you don't need oil temp or press with your mods... and afr's only good if you get a wideband.

Oh, it looks like they have a sensor module for OBD in the works. Cool.
Also, they have an AIT (air intake temp) sensor module. That's unique. Nice to see it in the same system as an EGT probe. I think you can add multiple AIT sensors, too. It would be nice to get before and after readings to see how well the intercooler works on the fly.
