Shaved, wire tucked, and custom engine bays? part 16

Rice Devil 05-31-2011 05:20 PM

What difference will it make using the 2.5 inlet over the standard inlet and I take it the throttle body bolts straight on with any problems?
Nice job dude... I like that a LOT... very very alien... :alien:
Thanks, I wanted something totally different and something you can't just buy off the shelf. I know what you mean about taking a long time to do. I have to get a few ports welded up and I'll relocate them under the manifold.
I'd like to rotate it but it sits higher than a stock wrx one and will sit further foward if it was rotated. It would hit the hood. Plus you wouldnt see the alien shapes.

It bolts to the heads without a problem. You need to get a few ports either blocked or welded shut. Also need to drill a few holes above the throttle intake something with the throttle body.
1breel 05-31-2011 08:25 PM

don't think smoothing out the plastic LGT intake is any easier. I think I used more 400g on it than I did on my hood and it has the IC rally vent.

Curious as to how that 2.5I would work on my build? How is the fit for the turbo inlet or are you rotated.
Center piece of my build will be this:
I should have quoted this pic... that's awesome..

2 words... .flapper wheels...

makes quick work of a LOT of material...

Could I get a better look at the other side?

I'm wondering if I couldn't use that one bolt hole on the upper passenger side of it, to hold a cable bracket for my cable TB...

Got me really thinking now man.. and I jus spent hours doing TGV deletes..
Quadsbc 05-31-2011 09:37 PM

24 grit wheel on air. then some surface pads to clean it up. i dont want to take off too much material at once. I want it to have a really smooth look when I'm done. Like it came that way. I already blasted it once to clean it up. Ill do it again before it goes off to powdercoat. I may have to make some brackets to hold the throttle body cables. or swap to a dbw system and run avcs

It will definately have a rotated turbo kit, custom fuel rails/system, shave/wire tuck and a semi custom aps 725 fmic

heres a pic from after the first few days of cutting and grinding

Quadsbc 06-05-2011 06:45 PM

Still need to delete the ac and re locate the battery.

Quadsbc 06-06-2011 05:53 AM

Most have an adapter plate made. I will probably do the same.
25rsti 06-06-2011 03:40 PM

That's what I did. Same intake manifold as Quads. I had a friend machinist make a spacer to adapt. It was sticking to far out though due to me reversing the manifold so I had Synaptic3 cut out the original throttle body flange and sunk in the new adapter and welded that on.

Small update on my bay.

Still need to clean up some hoses. Will be removing the power steering setup this week.

Fuse box relocated to under the drivers seat

You win sir, you win. Everything about that engine bay was done amazingly! I love how you put it together.....Any vids of it running by chance? Is this for race or show just out of curiosity

Pics? Will you be at WBM?
25rsti 06-07-2011 07:40 PM

I probably won't have my car at WBM but if you look at my build thread on NES I had some pics there, nothing recent though.
Quadsbc 06-07-2011 08:28 PM

Meh, nes. no thanks
25rsti 06-08-2011 06:54 AM

oh shoot, I forgot, something happened along time ago didnt it. No biggie, I haven't updated my thread for along time. I'll post pics of my manifold in a couple days. Just finished re-sanding it "again". I didn't like the way the paint came out so I put another 20hrs into it. Plan on primering it today and painting it tomorrow. I have about 100hrs into my manifold. I have no power tools so it was all done by hand, who needs a gym when you've got a manifold with crazy surfaces and areas to blend lol.
Quadsbc 06-08-2011 05:15 PM

^^Damnn I got about 40hrs in on mine with power tools. You should just skip paint and go with powdercoating. It would really look much better. Also join CTSubie.com
Deuce Cam 06-08-2011 05:33 PM

Gixx6 - that **** is ballin', I think it's time for some floor mounted pedals ;)
25rsti 06-08-2011 05:42 PM

I would powder coat if time wasn't a constraint. grrrr I have two of these manifolds anyways. The one I've been working on and another stock one that I'll do better in the future haha.
Quadsbc 06-08-2011 08:06 PM

It only takes 400 degrees and 10 mins!
25rsti 06-08-2011 11:23 PM

ahh well. i just finished my last coat. Bruins Won too!!!!

D, I want to touch your car just so it has a fingerprint.

And although I would never get so insane with my Subaru, this thread really makes me want to reroute the wiring on my mustang since all it does is gather dust.

All I do is clean it now, which is like 2 times a week. lol I've been playing with my new Lexus now because IMO the wrx is done.
Looks awesome D, How many miles on the motor now?
600miles! Low boost tuning this up coming week, then at 1,000 miles we'll strap it down and see what it does. Of course that's pending we can get the damn thing on a dyno.

haha! It's got some battle wounds from driving it around. I need to get it back in the paint shop for some touch ups that have been bothering me.

Haha! My bay was done 2.5 years ago! It's time for these kids to start putting mine to shame. If I ever change the car again, i'll re-do the bay and put a false fire wall in it and tilton race pedals with remote resoviors.
kscasper13 06-12-2011 02:44 AM

so D, i know your fuse box is under your driver seat, where did you relocate your fuel filter and the lines to the filter coming through the firewall?
D Money 06-12-2011 12:40 PM

Fuel filter is in the trunk, attached to the feed line.
kscasper13 06-12-2011 05:02 PM
Fuel filter is in the trunk, attached to the feed line.
ahh, makes sense. i'm a dummy
waynoSTI 06-13-2011 08:42 PM

Looks SICK D. I love it, but if you do the tilton it will be INSANE! If only i knew about that before i brought the STI booster delete. lol

No mater what, it will always get better with guys trying new things. You told me to do other things that i you didn't know about then and now were both telling guys what we have learned from mine. lol

I think i need to bring my mani for some Rick Ross treatment:lol:
D Money 06-13-2011 09:19 PM

haha so true! If I re-do my bay, i'm getting Bas-f to sponsor me so I can paint it project mu teal. lol
armyssoldierboy 06-14-2011 07:22 AM

Wow, some amazing cars and ideas in here. I've wanted to do minor tucking and will be using some ideas from here, thanks guys. :)
Dpwhitehead1 06-14-2011 02:49 PM

i'm going to do a mild tuck, battery relocate.. soon. for now anyways. i may end up doing a brake tuck and stuff.. who knows! depends on my protege, and how well it works on that car
armyssoldierboy 06-14-2011 08:31 PM

I saw someone say it cost them $275 for the abs relocate. How much for the battery and fuse box relocate?
D Money 06-14-2011 09:45 PM

^Fuse box you can just stretch into the fender, but you'll see wires going across the fender area. Battery box is about $150-176 for a good one and comes with everything you need. Labor, who knows about that. Hopefully you have nice friends like I do!

arisking 07-03-2011 01:52 AM

Yeah, just a few small issues, pinched brake line, therefore manual brakes. So I'll be fixing that tomorrow. Needs a good hose tuck then I'll be done amongst other minor things.

Also threw in my V-Mount, looks so good.

I'll post good pics up once my build is done.
