I think there may be a few individual posts about it on RS25, but for now this is all I could find (btw this thread is full of good information and examples): http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showpost.php?p=36508919&postcount=56
Here is a picture of a relocation:

I have read that a handful of people who've inverted the ABS pump have been able to bend the original lines to fit, but never have found a good example for routing through the firewall and down around the passenger quarterpanel.
I've never bent lines before but want to relocate the abs. I've thought about this location. Is that the original mount for the abs just flipped?
I'm in the process of shaving the driver side. I need some more bondo. I can't cut the fender well due to autoX SM rules.

Running, no fluid leaks, back out of the workshop, but still some stuff to finish up. Ordered a set of new silicone couplers and need to finalize all the wiring, polish the intercooler, vacuum line routing, other minor stuff.
Definitely on the home stretch though.

I dont have a bumper beam, the bumper cover is supported by that forward tube at the bottom, the two lower tubes that come out in front of the wheels and bolted to the fenders.

Have you guys been bending the lines with a line bender or just by hand?
The black supports that are sticking out in this picture are placed the opposite way on mine a crushed between the lower fame and body of my car. There is one bolt there I loosened, slid the support in there, and then tightened everything back down. I added one additional metal brace on the other as you can see in my picture above using the same bolt thread/washer that was already there on the support bracket. You can kick that thing and it wont move.
As for the lines I removed them when I put in the chasebays kit but when they were hooked up and I had made a circular hole right behind the passenger strut tower. Shielded the lines and bent them back and then through that hole over to the abs. The distribution block was almost located in the same spot as it was in the engine bay but on the inside of the fender well. Only thing showing was the brake lines across the fire wall.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Gh/gr guys - removing the fuel damper valve? Havent been seeing them on most of the setups in here but also have been seeing inline filters. Want to redo my fuel lines in AN fittings with new rails amd deleted evap line but i cant find a for sure answer on just removing it. I know my year has a built in filter in the tank but i could run a second one if itll clean it up

Dead thread is dead. When you guys deleted abs what did you do with the giant connector attached to it? im thinking on my 2010 that i should just remove the control module from the abs pump, seal it, and relocate it under the pass. side dash.

For those with an 02-04 WRX/STi, I have an extra JDM throttle body that finalizes the cruise control delete process by only having one cable holder instead of two. Hit me up.

Anyone have any photos of their bays? I'd love to see them!

Does anyone have any practical tips for the current generation WRX? I don't wanna do any system deletes, but I'd be okay with relocating stuff. My real goal is actually a little more performance oriented. I want to move stuff out of the engine bay into the trunk for better weight distribution. Battery and wiper fluid seem obvious, but what else can I move?

If you have someone good with brake lines or are good yourself you could honestly move the abs to the trunk/back seat as well. Only recommended for pros though for obvious reasons. And this thread is mostly dead for current gen stuff (08+)

Sat through most of this thread getting ideas and it pushed me to paint my bay while I have everything out! Looking forward to working towards mounting solutions for other things as my intake manifold will get rid of alot of mounting points.
Also have a few custom things going in the way of colors and orientation so hopefully this thread stays alive till then!
2010 STi btw.

I don't post much but i read a lot on here i figured since i see a lot of posts about harnesses i would post my loom here and clear up questions if anyone has any. planning on posting my engine bay when i get the rest of these wires under control. some awesome stuff in this thread

Is that a mesh split loom, or did you depin each connector to slide wire over it?

Shaved, wire tucked, and custom engine bays?

Depinned each one. There are little clips in each connector that when I clipped will let u slide the pin out

Those of you that have done wiring harness work, are all the connectors in the engine bay Deutsch type? I'm shopping for crimpers and pinning/depinning kits. The Deutsch tool kits all seem to include tools for round/barrel type connectors, but I think our pins are square/rectangular with flat pins, not round...
thanks
thanks

You don't need any special tools to remove them I use a fine metal pick a bit like tooth pick size I do have a full set of pin tools but find the pick best and they are no round terminals

While planning my engine bay wiring harness work, I noticed that the service manuals (downloaded from Ken-Gilbert) do not show complete pin-outs for each connector/plug, but rather separate the diagrams into functions (ABS, A/C, etc.)
I made a quick reference guide by painstakingly mapping out every pin/wire of every plug in the engine bay.
I have only done the 02-03 WRX 5MT. I didn't do the automatic trans, nor the naturally aspirated Impreza since neither applied to my vehicle.
Likewise, the 04+ WRX is different so if you have a blob-eye or newer, don't use these.
There are 3 attachments and they are named:
"FRONT HARNESS" as described in pages WI-130 and WI-131 in the service manual
"ENGINE BAY BULKHEAD HARNESS" as described in pages WI-132 and WI-133 in the service manual
and finally "ENGINE HARNESS" as described in pages WI-139 and WI-140 in the service manual
These should help if you plan on doing any wiring harness work in the engine compartment.
EDIT: I tried to upload PDFs, however the forum software converted them into .JPGs - I need to find another way to host these as they are illegible as JPG

Here's my work in progress, just a few things left to button up...
The long block is currently on a stand in my garage. No gaskets or torquing done yet, just making sure everything fits and trimming hoses and all that fun stuff. This was before I finished relooming my whole engine harness and tucking it all stelathy like.

And the engine bay is almost done...

I'm retaining the brake booster, but deleted ABS since I've had the fuse pulled since day 1. I'm using a Chase Bays brake line kit which they were nice enough to customize for me a little bit so that the rear brake line runs inside the cabin under the dash, terminated by an "F" shaped fitting where it will mate to the two OEM hard lines for the rear brakes under the dash on the passenger side.

John did you powdercoat your alternator? If so, the case halves, and internals all need to be able to touch bare aluminum or the alternator will not charge. I found out the hard way. The connection between alternator and bracket and from bracket to engine block also needs a non-painted mating surface.
Same with the powersteering pump-to-bracket-to-block. The "idle-up" sensor is a one-wire and uses the body of the pump as ground.

Yeah I'm aware of these things. Thanks for the heads up tho!

Shaved, wire tucked, and custom engine bays?

Uh oh... I shaved everything. I'm almost done removing everything so I can weld up all those holes.

Everything out of the way to make room for welding up the holes.

Has anyone done this and retained AC? Thinking custom tig ac stainless braided lines could be made somehow but I live in a place where it regularly gets to about 120Friday and don't want to delete it

You could have shop custom make you some AC lines. It won't be cheap. You would need to take them your existing AC lines and the exact measurements for the new lines for them to make them. Regular -AN braided stainless lines will NOT work.

Curious why regular AN lines wouldn't work? It's not a pressure issue, only thing I can think of is the refrigerant could eat the lining?
I wonder how tucked an engine can get while keeping it in. If I'm going to go as far as removing it I'll be doing a lot more with the tuck than I am planning to right now

It is a pressure issue as well as an incompatible internal structure (lining) to the PAG oil.
Crimped AN fittings would hold the pressure but the fittings you install yourself cannot hold it.

Totally possible, but it's a little trickier to make it "clean" on the EJ25 due to the very much "up front and in your business" location of the compressor. I've seen tons of hot rods and other old show cars with A/C done very clean. One of the guys here at BR has a shaved bay S13 240 that retained A/C, but that motor layout makes it a bit easier than our Subies.
Check this out, basic idea of a tucked A/C:

Rather than make your own lines, I'd just pick up a kit from Summit or JEGS or the likes... Lots of options out there, just do some research for "custom a/c show car" or something.
Anyhow, here's some of my hooptie from WBM this weekend

Zombie - I would've used crimp fittings for sure if I went braided. I wasn't aware of a compatibility issues with the oil which is why I asked! I'm familiar with AC just not alllll parts of it

Seeing how clean it can get without AC makes me want to leave it out...but its sooooo hot and I would like my DD to be comfortable in the heat. Lots of figuring to do in the meantime. I still have to see if my lines are even useable right now because I tore them out pretty aggressively

The hydraulic hose and fitting company in my town can make pretty much any kind of pressure hose.
OEMs use part rigid/part flexible AC lines to fit their needs. You could have all flexible lines made if that makes it easier for you. They can also put a sleeving material on the outside that would look like nylon braided AN lines. I saw it once on a '66 Mustang. They owner told me about the hydraulic hose shop.
I'm keeping all my AC wiring and under-dash bits on my build in case I can figure out how to put AC back on my car. My intake manifold hits the compressor and alternator if I install them in the OEM location. Currently, my AC compressor is deleted and my alternator has been flipped to the other side (like the front-facing intake guys do)

That's exactly where I'm at in the planning stage. I want to rotate the IM but need to find a way to put the ac and alternator on. I'm going for quick spool as one of my top concerns so twin scroll + rotated + reversed IM. If I can't rotate the mani I have to use the extra piping.....not the end of the world but I'd rather not

I've driven big turbo Subarus with rotated IM and nonrotated IM. There is ZERO discernible difference in lag. The dyno sheet may show an RPM or two lag, but it is completely un-noticeable. If you find that keeping the AC is a major PITA, then don't waste the time, money, and headaches trying to rotate the IM.
I'm in a similar boat as I have a custom intake manifold that required my alternator to be rotated over where the AC compressor was and the compressor removed. I've since found that if I space my IM up with an 8mm phenolic spacer, both the alternator and AC will fit. Maybe if you space your IM up (watch your hood clearance) you can clear the alternator in its OEM location. Just something to try.

^ I can see that with big turbos, but what about medium sized turbos? I'm running a PTE5857 and there was a very noticeable increase in throttle response when I switched from a fmic to a tmic. I would think a reversed manifold with minimal piping would get you the best of both worlds.
