Shaved, wire tucked, and custom engine bays? part 40

under0athh51189 01-19-2014 11:34 AM

Thanks guys and all good if you don't like the dump its what I like also don't worry about cops man I live in FL we have absolutely no laws for stuff like that down here. I ride around with no good everywhere I go with no issues. Also as said it is a show car and only comes out maybe once a month. I have a is300 for the dd
arisking 01-19-2014 11:59 AM

Beast!

Here in Manitoba people have gotten tickets for low washer fluid. But I still rock the dump tube and straight pipe exhaust! Hahaha.

I'm sure if the cops here looked at my bay, I'd get a ticket because it was wire tucked.

05subysti 01-21-2014 07:46 PM

what is the method to remove the pitch stop mount area, anyone do this yet?

it looks like id have to wire brush the sealant, drill the spot welds, then pry off??

and under oath good looking work.
3mlwhly 01-21-2014 07:57 PM

You got it... It's just that simple

Smoothing the fire wall and solid mounts

Crazy
namehtcire 01-21-2014 11:45 PM

Not as clean as some of the others in here, but this is my bay:

^ That looks sweet. You just need a pair of JDM hids :)

I wish I didn't have to cut a hole thru the side wall but in this case function>form

if that's your ABS module down there, can you post some more photos from different angles? I want mine down there somewhere, I just don't know where yet.

Thanks man.
Serkan 01-22-2014 12:20 PM

Yes, that is the relocation spot. Same as the stock location but under the floor panel.

I am able to reuse the stock lines and keep everything stock and tucked away.

Ok cool. If you have some photos of how you ran the hard line, I'm curious to see what you came up with.
Serkan 01-22-2014 06:47 PM

I haven't put the lines yet. I still have to spray the engine bay.

Brake booster lines and driver side front brake line will be running from the cowl panel to the passenger side fender well.

Two rear brake lines will be running thru the the bulk head harness hole area by the door (instead of going thru the firewall and back inside the wheel well) This way the rear lines won't be seen at all.

The passenger side front brake line is right by the abs module.

There will be a brace connecting the hanging outer side of the abs mount bracket. That way it is more secure.

Did you keep the brake line length the same for all ?
3mlwhly 01-24-2014 08:22 PM

For that mod I just used the original brake lines and tweeked them gently, it didn't look great but none of the lines were pinched and my goal was achieved. I'm eliminating abs now and always planned to so it wasn't a big deal to me how it looked

I started my bay process today. Drilled holes to remove the brackets and battery tray on drivers side tub. Also drilled the pitch stop mount spot welds and removed it, it is now mangled to death, but I got it off! :)

next part will be to do the passenger side tub, cut both tubs out, remove all the abs, brake lines, booster etc, grind smooth, make and weld new higher tubs, new sheets to cover holes, fiberglass, fill, glaze, then prime!
25rsti 01-29-2014 08:35 PM

Should've used a spot weld remover bit. That's what I've used and ended up getting rid of those pieces without leaving holes.
05subysti 01-29-2014 08:53 PM

Ya should've got a spot weld bit, but I've got it covered.

Most of that panels that have drilled holes are getting replaced anyways since I'll be doing tubs :)

And pitch stop mount was removed to move engine closer to fire wall.

Not going for show quality, since I'm the average joe but will take my time in doing the welding, seam sealing, learning how to paint etc.

You may be right....don't know what I was thinking  .....I looked at his profile and it says RWD. So either a non-Subaru motor, or just a RWD set-up.
05subysti 01-30-2014 03:01 PM

Non Subaru 6 cylinder and rwd..

So what do y'all guys use for a seam sealer?

And anyone polish or chrome their brake booster?

I actually used no seam sealer I scraped it all out and in spots I needed to smooth either weld or bondo.

As for brake booster you could chrome dip it im sure or just delete it which Is what I did with a wilwood master cylinder and ChaseBays line kit. Looked way cleaner without it

just curios what does everyone do with there throttle cables. its so ugly. mines an 05 wrx btw
05subysti 02-01-2014 05:17 PM

Paint it black or wrap it in some sort of loom?
under0athh51189 02-01-2014 06:54 PM

Its not that its the way it routes its so long. Any way to shorten it or replace with a shorter one and have it still work right
05subysti 02-01-2014 08:11 PM

Just cut to length desired and recrimp the end.
under0athh51189 02-01-2014 11:09 PM

I know my buddy said we'll hit a bicycle shop and buy some brake cable since they already have the end on it and just run a whole new one the length we want. Anyone tried this. Making it shorter won't **** with the idle or throttle will it
05subysti 02-02-2014 07:27 AM

I've read about using a bicycle cable!

And you shouldn't have problems if y'all install it correctly and it pulls as it's supposed to.

As long as it the tb butterfly shuts all the way when you let go of the pedal it should be fine.
05subysti 02-02-2014 01:08 PM

Speaking of throttle cables.. Has anyone swapped their drive by wire to drive by cable?

I have the dbc pedal and cable, I guess just swap it out?

Anyways I want to see more engine bays!
25rsti 02-02-2014 01:54 PM

I swapped DBW to DBC.

Drilled out spot welds for DBW gas pedal bracket, welded in DBC gas pedal bracket. Drilled hole in fire wall for the cable.

Just go to an auto parts store and grab some cable stops. They come in a variety pack and cut to desired length. Don't use a bicycle cable.
under0athh51189 02-03-2014 12:40 AM

alright another quick question;. what do you guys use for your oil filler neck or whatever since the stock one is so long once the ac is gone
