Shaved, wire tucked, and custom engine bays? part 19

AkumaMotorsports 08-24-2011 11:33 AM

Aeromotive, fuel lab, Russell, magna fuel, Summit, etc. It doesn't matter lol.

I particularly run the aeromotive because I like their stuff.

Make sure it's a 10 micron after the pump. You can put a 100 micron before the pump if you wanted another, it's up to you. The sock on the walbro should be enough for a pre-pump filter.

I was looking forward to seeing the loom tuck too. I've starting stripping my spare loom, just need to decide where I want to locate the Fuse box, thinking the glove box for easy access.

We are working through the issue's. Chase was pressed for such a short deadline on my car, that things werent sorted correctly. Nothing bad on him, as I said he is working through the issues.

We will post updates when products are ready to be released. It looks awesome though so far!!

What's everyone doing to get rid of the radiator tank on the IM?

Does it need to be higher that the fuel lines like the header tank.

Thanks

I bought an aftermarket one and put it behind my fuel distribution block. Im not sure about height, but mine has always been around the OEM height..

Thats not even that bad!! lol^^

Yes, most have routed the Coolant res, to the fender well. Behind the Mani, or Dogbone mount.
Rice Devil 08-25-2011 02:50 PM

^^^ Do you have any pics of said mounts or what tanks are used.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Quadsbc 08-25-2011 05:11 PM

I havent even started cutting wires yet...
dudley123 08-25-2011 09:48 PM

Rip it completely out and splice on the floor.. Much easier ;)

I will get some pics up shortly, but Chase does have that Coolant Res(http://www.chasebays.com/product/uni...-overflow-tank) along with several other's that are very similar.. Any will work, but the smaller the better obviously. Mount in fender or attached to dogbone mount at rear of bay.
D Money 08-25-2011 09:51 PM

All my tanks are custom. lol Which will be for sale soon. My bay is getting re-done and I promise you, no one will be able to touch it. :)

For the ones that relocated there battery to the trunk, how did you do your starter and fuse box power wire? I was thinking of doing a junction box under the dash, but wanted to see other's ideas.

I'm not going all crazy tuck so I have a block on the drivers strut tower.
Smurftastic 08-28-2011 07:19 PM

So, all the light stuff that's normally bolted onto the passenger wheel well, where are you guys hiding that? I have mine tucked away in the gap behind the wheel well... but I don't think it's the best location.

I'm still waiting on ChaseBays to release their ABS delete. Then I'll start moving the little plugs and stuff on that side. I completely remooved my Cruise Control though.
D Money 08-29-2011 08:13 PM

Where are you guys getting your info on the chase bay stuff? I know he's working on stuff, but is there pics? Most likely it will be a DIY kit and you need to do the work to install it. I'd imagine he'd be just supplying the fittings/lines which I already have written up and posted.
Ethan_Drift 08-29-2011 10:42 PM

Off there Facebook page and their blog on their website. He said about two months til they release their products. To include Ej20/Ej25 Engine Harness, Brake line kits, AN Fuel Lines, Clutch Line, Cooling Accessories, and more.

Yep.. Pre-made lines, ready to rock and roll!

D.. if you wanted pics, you know the source. should ask him! lol
Ethan_Drift 08-30-2011 11:19 AM

I'll probably be doing the Brake Booster Delete, with Brake Line Relocation when it's released. That'll clear up a lot of clutter on the passengers side and firewall.
dudley123 08-30-2011 05:22 PM

It does.. to give you an idea, here is the Chase Bay's Brake Booster with ABS delete/Line Relocation.

This is also with the CB Fuel line Tuck

573 08-31-2011 11:59 PM

I see that the chase bays brake booster delete only comes with a 7/8" master cylinder. AFIK, their biggest customers own Hondas and such. This makes me wonder if the 7/8" cylinder is a bit too big for our applications. Since Subarus are heavier, wouldn't a smaller bore cylinder be advantageous since it'd yield more mechanical advantage?

I'm contemplating a brake booster delete, but I don't want to make my car unsafe on the street and I don't want to wear out my leg on the track. I just want good consistent pedal feel and a bit more firmness.

I calculated that the 7/8" cylinder will yield 32% less firmness than the stock cylinder in an application with no booster. That seems pretty significant, but is it enough?
Ethan_Drift 09-01-2011 01:04 AM

Idk, I think they also did something where the Clutch MC ran of the reservoir from the Brake MC. Looked cool and one less bottle in the bay. First thing I'm going for is the BB delete and ABS delete with brake line relocation.

I was kicking the chase bays master cylinder delete idea around as well, but I pretty much have myself convinced not to go that route. The plate itself would be easy to make or can be had elsewhere for like $30. The master cylinder is just wilwood with extra cost added for being attached to a cheap plate. The single outlet master is just asking for trouble IMO, and the added price of dual outlet starts getting the total cost pretty high. Factor in running a bunch of new lines and fittings for that, as well as a prop valve and its really getting pricey.

My alternative solution is I am just going to couch up the extra cash to do a tilton pedal box. Not only does it significantly clean up the firewall, but it is a superior setup. My clutch fluid cooked while waiting in traffic pulling into the pvgp last year, it will be nice to not have to worry about that since the reservoirs are in the cabin away from heat.

I was having similar thoughts but I think the Tilton pedal box is a bit out of my price range at the moment. The pedals themselves are around $500, then I'd need two master cylinders (or 3), and I'd also have to find a way to make the dbw sensor work with the go pedal. It all adds up.

What I'll probably end up doing is have somebody machine me the adapter plate. I know a few people who have access to machine shops--maybe one of them can do me a favor. Then I'd get an appropriately sized Tilton master cylinder plus the nice aluminium reservoir that you can get from them as an option. Since the MC would be closer to the fire wall, I'd probably have to have a custom brace made for that as well since my TIC brace will no longer reach the back of the cylinder.

That'll be more expensive than the chase bays booster delete but it'll be quite a bit nicer as well.
Token-Negro 09-01-2011 10:17 AM

I doubt Chase Bays carries enough liability insurance for that booster delete setup, it looks pretty cheap. Combine that with someone with 500whp and you have the ultimate combo for trouble. I guess if it just rolls off a trailer and back on it would be fine.
573 09-01-2011 12:20 PM

There's really nothing wrong with their quality, as far as I can tell. I just don't think that a single output cylinder is smart because it takes redundancy out of a very important system. I'm also skeptical as to whether a 7/8" cylinder is appropriate for our cars.

Maybe I will put some more thought into doing a 2 pedal tilton assembly with 2 brake master cylinders and a balance bar. If I do a 2 pedal setup rather than the 3, it may end up costing about the same as the other setup I had in mind and remove some complexity.
WiRX 09-01-2011 09:45 PM

Didnt have time to shave much other than the washer fluid mounts on the left apron and the battery support because of school starting but maybe next summer. Color is GM synergy green/ Holden atomic green metallic.

There is a large space behind the passenger side wheel well... I pushed everything back there that I could :) Once you disassemble everything on the passenger side, it's easy to relocate everything back there with a few zipties.

From someone that is of the same loacality of Chase Bays I can tell you these are quality parts. And just to let it be known they are releasing more products for Subarus hopefully sometime this month or October. Just some credit to there products.
