Jerez testing...
Heidfeld on top at wet Jerez

Thursday, February 8th 2007, 16:54 GMT
Nick Heidfeld topped the times on the rain-hit final day of testing at Jerez in Spain on Thursday, with his BMW appearing well suited to the wet conditions.
With intermittent rain showers throughout the day, there was little chance of meaningful dry running - but that did not stop a lot of drivers from completing wet weather programmes.
Heidfeld began the day working on extreme weather tyres before switching to the standard wet tyres for traction control and set-up work. His BMW team, who saw Timo Glock set the third quickest time, packed up at lunchtime though to head to Barcelona for next week's test.
Alexander Wurz ended Williams' encouraging first test with their FW29 with another good showing as he ended the day second overall, half a second behind Heidfeld's best time.
His teammate Nico Rosberg had a less successful day though, finishing sixth overall and bringing out the red flags in the morning after stopping on the way to the garage.
Kimi Raikkonen was fourth quickest for Ferrari, just ahead of Honda's Rubens Barrichello - who stopped on the track at 10:35am with a suspected mechanical problem.
Further down the order, David Coulthard and Mark Webber continued to have their share of troubles with the new RB3.
Tenth fastest Coulthard went off the track at 12:12pm, before returning to action shortly afterwards and then stopping on the track. Webber stopped on track just five minutes later.
The Australian continued to have problems with the seat of his car, although he will get a new one for next week's test at Barcelona.
"I might not want to race tomorrow but I am not really bruised," said Webber of the seat.
McLaren's MP4-22 did not appear to be as dominant in the wet as it was in the dry, with Pedro de la Rosa down in 12th overall on the timesheet.
World champion Fernando Alonso gave up running in the morning, and left the attending press furious when he left the track early and skipped his planned media briefing. Several frustrated Spanish journalists were seen chasing after his car as he left the paddock.
Marco Andretti completed 62 laps in the Honda and ended the day at the bottom of the timesheets, although less than one second off the pace.
Renault packed up in the morning after deciding that there was little point in testing in the wet, therefore saving some of their tyre allocation.
Alonso: McLaren not ready to win yet
By Pablo Elizalde Thursday, February 8th 2007, 17:46 GMT
World champion Fernando Alonso believes McLaren still have work to do before they are ready for the start of the season, despite their impressive form in early testing.
McLaren have looked like the team to beat so far this year, with their drivers often topping the times with the new Mercedes-powered MP4-22 and showing strong form on long runs.
Despite their apparent speed, however, Alonso is staying cautious and reckons the British squad need to get a better grip on setting-up their car before the Australian Grand Prix.
"I don't know what to say. The times have been good and people are following us closely but the car, it's not even close to ready for Australia and time is running out," the McLaren driver told Spanish network Telecinco during testing at Jerez.
"I hope that in Barcelona and Bahrain we can get it set up properly in two weeks time," added the Spaniard, who reckons the Ferrari and Renault teams will be the main threat at the start of the season.
"Ferrari are looking very good and Renault will start the year well, but they will get worse, as usual."
When asked what he liked best about his car, Alonso joked: "The colours."
Alonso was the centre of attention during the tests at Jerez, where several thousand fans watched the local hero work with his new team.
The world champion admitted he was not happy with the way the Spanish track had handled the crowd, however, and said McLaren are considering not returning to Jerez to test.
"I enjoy the support from the Spanish people during the pre-season, but McLaren are considering not coming back to Jerez because they allow too many people inside the paddock," he said.
"It's got out of hand and it would be a shame if we didn't return to Spain to test just because people can't watch their manners."
I know its counter clockwise. The problem with a straight which is curved like that is that drivers just run on the inside and its a lot more difficult to get around than a straightaway.
Red Bull duo calm despite RB3 pace
By Jonathan Noble Friday, February 9th 2007, 10:32 GMT
Red Bull Racing duo Mark Webber and David Coulthard insist they are not disheartened by the early testing signs from their new RB3, even though it has failed to set competitive times.
The duo have just completed their second week of testing with the car, but have found themselves unable to break into the top half of the timesheets yet.
Despite the laptimes, however, both drivers feel that development of the car is heading in the right direction - although they are both aware that more work is needed.
Speaking to autosport.com, Webber said: "Getting in laps is very important to us. This test was not too bad.
"David and I just focused on our programmes. We did a lot of endurance work on brake cooling and getting into the detail work, so we can prepare for Barcelona with a little more efficiency.
"We did tick off a few boxes on the final afternoon, which is nice. We made the best of a wet day, but we got through it.
"So there were a few positives from the test, but we still have a lot to do. My side of the garage had a pretty full week, so it wasn't too bad in the end, but we have got a lot of work to do."
Coulthard added: "We are on a process of discovery and trying to clock up the laps. We want to identify the areas where we can improve the performance, and that is just a continuation of what we have been doing for the last few tests."
Webber is also hoping to get a new seat for the car, after complaining of being cramped in the tight cockpit
"I am not bruised, but I would not want to be racing tomorrow," he said. "But I will be alright."

Massa: BMW ahead of Ferrari and McLaren

By Michele Lostia and Pablo Elizalde Friday, February 9th 2007, 10:22 GMT
The BMW Sauber team are looking like the team to beat, judging by pre-season testing form ahead of the 2007 season.
That is the view of Ferrari driver Felipe Massa, who has been impressed with the German squad's performances with their new F1.07 car.
"The McLaren surely looks fast, but in my opinion the BMW Sauber is the best of all at the moment," Massa told Gazzetta dello Sport.
"I'm saying this by not just looking at the fastest time of this last day, but by seeing their consistency over their long run simulations.
"For me, the BMW Sauber at Valencia was impressive, and at Jerez they've done some very interesting tests too," added the Ferrari driver, who reckons BMW are ahead of Ferrari and McLaren so far.
"The McLaren is the fastest over a single lap, but as far as consistency is concerned the BMW is impressive even though they perhaps haven't the best reliability yet. For now I put them ahead of Ferrari and McLaren."
Despite his rivals' impressive form, Massa claims there is nothing to worry about, and he believes Ferrari are right where they expected to be at this point.
"We are in the situation we had expected," he added. "The car is demonstrating to be certainly quick and reliable too, even though we had some problems. However, we know how to solve them.
"We leave Jerez with some good things and some others not as good. The car is quick and there's nothing to worry about. We manage to easily do quick times and we are close to the guys who go faster at the moment."
The Brazilian admitted the rain that has hit this week's test at Jerez has hindered their preparations with the F2007 car, making next week's test at Barcelona crucial to get things right for the season-opening Australian Grand Prix.
"Saying it's a pain is an understatement," Massa said. "We came here to put miles in the car and to get to know it, but with the rain we aren't able to always complete the program: you can't push like in the dry, and you can't always understand whether the new things you are testing are working or not.
"Next week's test will be important for everyone. The car we are using now is very different to the one we'll use in Australia, at least aerodynamically. At Montmelo we'll begin to see some changes."

Hopefully the seat helps Webber, and I think they will regain some pace, but they aren't going to win this year.
And Massa is full of it.

I wouldn't say full of it, but sort of overdramatizing their performance compared to ferraris and mclarens.

What Massa isn't saying is they still have the rev limiter on the Ferrari. ;)

There's a lot of speculation and confusion over the new Ferrari.
Ferrari have gone with a significantly longer and heavier car, which seems to be flying in the face of convention for the 2007 spec tires. Teams are finding the rear tires to be very touchy on wear and degredation so they've been biasing their weight distribution as far forward as possible...everyone that is except Ferrari.
Either Ferrari know something everyone else doesn't or they've gotten it horribly wrong.
Oh, and I'm not sure if this has been mentioned (or brought up recently) but teams are also going to be forced to run both types of compounds during the races this year.

Are they going to have a Qualifying tire? Or similiar tire rules as last year?

Oh jeez...
So I'm sitting here watching Countdown on MSNBC and they show the press conference from Prince ZhaZha (whatever his name is) who's claiming that he just might be the father of Anna Nicole Smith's baby....and he's wearing a Schumi hat.
I've always suspencted Schumacher fans had issues...

That sounds pretty stupid to me.
And all I have to say for pre-season pace: It doesn't matter. The first Friday session in Melbourne matters.

Check out how much the RBR3 looks like the MP4-21. I guess Newey sticks to what he likes.

There are some similarities, but there are also a lot of differences.
| artkevin | 02-10-2007 10:27 AM |
It looks like the natural evolution of the MP4-21 with a RBR rear wing bolted on it minus the viking horns + Ferrari style wing wirrors.

From I-TV:
Worlds slowest Ferrari?
Organisers of Melbournes Ferrari festival, due to take place before next months Australian Grand Prix, have been told by the local police that their Formula 1 demonstration must not exceed 60 kph.
Thats an unbelievably pedestrian 37 mph. Thatll be impressive then.
Apparently the law enforcement authorities were upset after the last street demonstration for F1 cars, where Antonio Pizzonia was reckoned to have driven his Williams at more than 220 kph (137 mph).
Shame he was never quite so nifty on the track.
Chief Inspector Bruce Ramsay said today: We are not being spoilsports here, but should that Ferrari go just a fraction over the speed limit then well nab him.
A dry run for the event was held in the city yesterday with Luca Badoer, in last years F248, being overtaken by a boy on a skateboard and an old lady on an electric scooter.

A little off topic. Can somebody recommend a sitting spot for the indy gp? I was thinking corner 6 or corner 10 terrace? Any thoughts? I'd like to take some nice pictures. Thanks

Can an F1 car even go 37mph without stalling? When they are on the pit speed limiter they sound like a dying yak.

Corner 6 is good, but Corner 10 doesn't make sense. At that point just pay for general admission and sit on the hill.

I'm pretty sure that is the speed limit in monaco. The reason the F1 cars sound so crappy is because they're constantly getting fuel cut to stop them from going over the speed limit.

I think it's a personal preference. I personally tried seated seat and general admission (sitting wherever you like on the grass -- not stands). This is going to be my fifth visit to brickyard and I will take General admission over any seat.
I usually sit around T1 through T10:
