ok kinda weird question.....

but what guage should i be looking for if i want one that will move on my 2.5i

so no turbo=no psi

in other words, i want a guage that will move around and get attention like a psi guage, and i want it on the steering column
OneArmedScissor 06-14-2007 02:26 AM

I really want to zerosports guage pod in the center on my gc8, but it faces the wrong damn way!

Please just don't go get a gauge for attention. But I would get oil pressure, but then again since you do want it for attention why don't you get a big 6 inch tach.:disco:

My thoughts exactly. An oil pressure gauge is a good thing to have. He could also get a vacuum gauge and replace the face with one from a boost gauge.;)

yeah because a tiny guage on my steering column would be the same as a 6 inch tach!!!

oil pressure, EGT, vacuum and maybe voltage (little movements) will all jump around when you drive. i was deciding on the same thing when i have an extra pod i wanna fill. want find something that moves around when i drive, not just sit there

thanks,

yeah i was thinking oil pressure since thats actually usefull since my last car (94 toyota corolla) broke down because of oil issues

now can someone recommend a brand, fairly cheap, that makes an oil guage/ a steering column pod:confused:

i like the dtec but you really put that on the steering column though

I'm really praying zerosports makes this in a Left Hand Drive MODEL!!!!!
DAMN YOU ZEROSPORTS! GIVE ME THE OLD METER PANEL BACK FOR THE GC8!!!!

help :(
IceWilly 06-14-2007 11:51 AM

At some point in one of these threads I saw an autometer 3 gauge center console with individual gauge hoods on i think prosport gauges. It was a good side shot. Since then i haven't been able to find it again, and as this is the setup i plan to run... does anyone know where it is?

fyi, its not the one that is looking straight at the blue gauges, its a side shot that shows how it looks from outside the car.... thanks
OneArmedScissor 06-15-2007 03:48 AM

just got this made by a japanese tuner shop/company called "shajin" or something.

Pretty solid piece!

for GC8!

so how do you hook up the mechanical Autometer boost gauges with AN fittings that are supplied with it? Do I have to drill and tap the manifold or intake or something?

They have that small nylon vaccuum tubing, not that black rubber tubing.

Actually, I bought what appears to be the same surround off of Ebay a while back. The finish looks better than what is in the auction photo, and had no problems with fitment. The gauges slide in a little loose, but a strip of RTV fixes that right up. Why bother spending money you don't have to? It ends up being extra money you can put to stuff that makes a difference...all this has to do is hold a couple of gauges.

Just put a hose barb on the end of the fitting for the nylong line at the engine side, that will fit a piece of vacuum line, which then tee's off of the BPV line. Run the nylon line inside the car to the gauge, where the other fitting should thread right on. Make certain you use vacuum hose though, washer fluid hose will break down, and you'll get boost/vacuum leaks (yes...from experience)

where do you get hose barbs?

and what is BPV?
abgusaf 06-21-2007 12:31 AM

idk what a hose barb is? if your putting in a boost guage, just get a T fitting and t it off the hose that goes into your BPV (aka blowoff valve) right on the front right side (as if u where looking at it) of your intercooler
sniece 06-21-2007 08:39 PM

Sorry for the confusion. A hose barb is a pipe fitting, threaded on one end (in this case, you'll need external threading), and with a 'snout' on the other, that has steps (barbs...like a bee stinger) on it, makes it relatively easy to push a rubber hose on, and hard to pull it off.

This would allow you to go from the compression fitting at the end of your nylon hose, to a length of vacuum hose that goes to a barbed tee.

The tee goes into the existing vacuum line, which you will cut, and this means that the vacuum line still provides the signal to the blow off valve when you come off the throttle, but the boost pressure is there as well, going to your gauge.

I would imagine in the States, Autozone would have what you need. Canadian Tire does the trick in Canada.

Hope that helps.

Not to be an ass, but it appears to me that the boost gauge is out of calibration  . why is it stationary below zero, shouldn't it be dead on?? with my experience they only get further and further out of calibration( other brands of gauges). Anybody else notice this or have this problem?

Thanks
ScoobaSTieve 06-26-2007 03:56 AM

My autometer gage isn't exactly 0 all the time. Don't forget that changes in atmospheric pressure and altitude can play a part in the zeroing of a gage. A meter that measures pressure (or vacuum) will only be accurate in the place and time it was calibrated, other than that time, it will be accurate at the same altitude and atmospheric pressure. And don't forget about paralax error, we have no idea if this picture was actually taken dead straight at it.

Sounds like someone had a sour experience.. I've owned both the Autometer bezel and the Ebay one. I found the Autometer to be cast out of thin/crap plastic, which ultimatly broke on me. Also, the Autometer had a very shiney finish to it, due to the casting/plastic they used, which required painting to tone it down (unless you liked all the gauges reflecting off it back at you).

The Ebay 'knock' I have fits fine, is cast out of a thicker plastic, and came with a matte finish, which required no paint.

I used some foam available from any hobby store and cut it into a block shape. Then I cut holes in the foam block just big enough to force the gauges through and shoved the whole thing into place. One hard thing about this install however is that the left and right vents are connected from behind by a plastic frame that extends from the A/C ducts under the dash. I had to remove that to make room for the gauges so my passenger air vent is actually superglued/siliconed in place. It cant swivel up/down anymore and there is no framework to direct air anymore. The vent still functions though and air still comes out so I'm happy.
