wow, gauge placement > you
ringe 02-14-2008 08:36 PM

My setup: VDO Vision series, mechanical boost, electronic oil pressure, and electronic oil temperature.

Gauge pod is the WRXtra.com unit, which is a modified OEM surround over what looks like a customer internal housing.

Finish matches dash exactly, due to OEM surround, and is actually much better looking than my crappy pictures represent:

Hehe, cars needs a bit of a cleaning. Sorry about the dust and garbage in the pics.
SubieZen07 02-15-2008 01:22 AM

My set up: Prosport Boost, Oil Press., Volt in Zero/Sport gauge pod. And installing this weekend Air/fuel, EGT, Oil Temp. into glove box gauge pod.

wacerx 02-15-2008 01:54 AM

if anything you should switch places with the EGT and the volt meter. makes more sense to monitor the EGT on the dash while driving than to have to check the glove box at wide open throttle.

No not at all it is bigger then the clock though so it sits on the dash, but it's not really that bad.

The NRG hub, is like 95.00....quick release is about 90.00 bucks, and the steering wheel i had from another car so...makes a lot easier to get in and out, and no one can really steal the car if u can't steer!:p

I use the link controller to connect all 5.

BlueDoom 02-16-2008 05:04 PM

The gauges are Defi BF white and they can be very bright. You can adjust brightness with the control link to tone it down. The hood is Defi too.

There are some more pics here http://bluedoom.zoints.com/album

not sure why the pics are blurry.

The mount for my Sirius Stilleto came from http://www.tss-radio.com/
It may hold cell phones too...easy install..must remove stereo and drill some holes.

Looks nice, but I thought that would have been very clean if you would have done a custom job and incorporated it into your clock pod like someone did here on the boards. Might be a little hard to read from the position you have now.

Yeah I know what you mean. I was trying to be as stealth as possible and don't look at it all that often. It's mainly used for the occasional glance. I thought about hacking up the clock, but I still use my clock.

For what it's worth, that thing is stuck there using velcro, so I can move it around. I might put another piece of velcro lining right above the AC vents and give me the option move it right there if I ever need to monitor it continuously. But since I'm 99% of the time in LA traffic, i barely use it

Hey nice installs guys, I'm a new member so the forum wont let me open a new thread so I thought id throw a gauge related question at the end of this and see if anyone can help me out. Ive got an 08' 2.5i, I want to install an oil temp so i have a better idea when the engine is up to temp. (All it came with is the red/blue idiot dashlight). Thing is the pillars are air bags and the center console doesn't have a viable place to put a plate. It'd suck to crash and have the air bag deliver the pillar pod to your face lol.

Any feedback would be appreciated thanks guys.

I have not seen a lot of 08's . What about the steering column. I use my oil temp gauge all the time. Mostly waiting for it to go up so I can WOT. It's a good idea. The oil heats much slower than the water.
NAZSTI 02-18-2008 04:09 PM

Here is mine in a 04 PSM STI, there is a Defi HUD and a Blitz gauge not shown so well in the pic...oh well you get the idea.A-pillar from top to bottom consists of Oil Temp, Ext Temp, and Turbo. The Triple Meter Hood from left to right consists of Oil press, Fuel press, and Water temp, and yes they do all sweep at the same time.
how do you like the unit?? How much was it ?
I like it a lot. If you have a stock dash like I do, you probably like to keep it as "stealth" looking as possible. I'm probably overreacting by saying I don't like to have gauges because they are a magnet for thieves. If I didn't care though, I'd totally sport the defis

The unit is very responsive. it can log i think up to 70x per second. I got a quote from maperperformance and saved some $$$ less retail ( retail is 575ish for the LCD display + egt sensor + boost tap )

sliverwagon 03-23-2008 12:40 AM

i mounted mine in the actual cluster... im going for a very casual look with my car... so it needed to look stock... so i busted out the soldering iron and busted open a autometer gauge... and put the circuit board in the cluster itself, trimmed the rings and whala!
lemme know what you think. :)

I like the look, and think the execution is great, however the gauge wouldn't have been my first choice given it maxs out at 15 psi. But i give it 2 thumbs up great job.
