Shaved, wire tucked, and custom engine bays? part 22

xxscaxx 01-16-2012 01:17 PM

bump...

What gauge wire did you guys use for the power wire coming out of the fuse box on your relocation? The stock wire I believe is 8 gauge. I used 8 gauge to extend it, but i'm trying to figure out some issues with my car and want to make sure this isn't one of em lol.

Has anyone had a chance to use a ChaseBays harness? I'm thinking I'd like to pick one up to cut my downtime.

You have to send your OEM harness in to them, which is what I am trying to figure out right now. The basic engine harness comes right out. The part that runs through the plug on the firewall is wired into a harness that runs all over the damn car including the doors. I don't know what we are going to do or how to solve that problem without taking anything and everything apart.

I just placed an order on Friday with them for the top of the line Raychem Mil Spec harness for a race car we are building.

Going to sort out tomorrow how this is going to work with getting them what they need.

Adam,

I thought the harness came P&P, I didn't get the detail about shipping your harness off the car from them through our communication. I'm not looking to completely re-wire the car, instead I'm looking to tuck the engine bay and keep the remaining parts of the car as "Daily Driver" as possible. ChaseBay's Raychem harness looks very nice, however I don't think my car will ever require a milspec connector and related bits.
No Limit Motorsport 01-30-2012 08:56 AM

You will still have to send the engine harness to them as they need to use the clips from it for the new one. I suppose if you keep the harness plugging in, in the same location it would be a simpler process but not be as "clean". If you look at the way it's ran stock, some of the connectors come off the harness out the firewall, and some off the harness on the drivers side fender area. I would think the firewall connectors would have to remain stock than.

Let me know how it works for you I am curious.

That is unfortunate... Here I was hoping for a completely "Plug and Play" installation. At the moment I'm not at home with the car, so I guess I'll have to give the guys at ChaseBay's a call and see what they would reccomend. Otherwise I may have to figure out a way to tuck the wires on my own.

The ABS PCM is different than the regular car ECU. You can take everything out, and you will probably have an ABS light.. THen you just remove the ABS bulb and stop worrying.

good to know. i was looking to see if there was a way around it. like taking the abs pcm out totally and then maybe it wouldn't light.
xxscaxx 02-14-2012 08:52 AM

I would assume you would get a code..you can get your ecu flashed though and have the codes turned off. Thats what I have done with my stock ECU for when I have to get an inspection, I pull my hydra out and put my stock ECU in and I don't have to put back my front o2 sensor, rear o2, tgv sensors, etc.

reading > me. Didn't see the above comment about the ABS PCM being different.

For brake booster deletes, where do you all find your kits? Are they universal or do you have to piece everything together?

Well, almost to paint time. Battery is in the trunk and I plan on running an 06/07 windshield wash tank in the fender. Cruise control, and A/C delete when the motor is in. Entire build is DIY.

where can I get it? and what brand??

I've been trying to contact PRS for about 2 weeks now. They're NOT answering me. I got one email from Clint saying he'd help me on monday(last monday) and that was it.. I need to order these damn connectors!

Got ahold of clint today. what a nice dude. anyways, just a quick questions for anyone already having messed with an STi harness.. Do you know in the main harness how many wires come out into the engine bay?

I took a quick look and it looked like there were 2 sets of harnesses, one on left, one on right. but the right side looked bigger.. anyways, how many wires in each bunch?

Engine bay clean up
Slowly cleaning up the dreaded boxer engine bay.

I started with the A/C, the washer fluid reservoir, and over the weekend took out my powersteering pump + looped the lines.

Next up is a battery relocation and a catchcan (to move those dirty PVC lines :D)

Saw your thread last night. I'm gonna have a look see when I get home from work today and see what I can do. I've always lived the shaved bay look, but won't be going that far on my Subie. But I did already chop a couple coolant lines that run over my airbox to the turbo coolant reservoir. I mostly just look at shorting/re routing vac lines and what not. I ll check back in on this thread later tonight with my findings :D
