IStoSTI 11-29-2009 07:20 PM

i'll do it myself this time :)
9vapors 01-22-2010 11:29 AM

I haven't posted any pics of my project, in an effort to stay original, but my car is much further along than this, so I feel comfortable posting a pic.. A keen eye will be able to notice a few things that will make my car a bit different than the current shaved bay cars. There is a bunch of steps in the process of doing this right, but the key is to take your time and do it right or you will be plagued by issues for your cars life. Anyway, a real tuck to me starts by stripping the bay down and determining what you need and don't, or can live without... My shaved bay was done using as little "plastic" (filler) in the bay as possible. I have massaged the metal or welded 90% of the panels and holes in some way to use the smallest amount that I could. It's a HUGE job. When the project is done, I will post all of my pics with all of the steps of the way.

No unwanted holes!
IIdiceII 01-22-2010 03:04 PM

i have a feeling 9vaps car is gonna pwn nasioc
D Money 01-22-2010 03:33 PM

looks good big John! I see one you missed. ;) Middle of the wiper cowl near the top.

I can't wait to see yours because out of the 3-4 shaved bays now, you're the only one running a tilton pedal assembly and deleted your brake booster. :)

I do hope you change your mind and smooth out the shock towers and side plates because otherwise you will see all those bumps and it won't be smooth like Tino's and my bay.
9vapors 01-22-2010 03:55 PM

I kind of like the look of the original bumps and shapes, but filled and smoothed. I left that one hole because you need it if you are still going to run wipers. The car is MUCH further along ;)... Anyway, I'm good having mine a little different.

Not sure what you're talking about with the Tilton setup.
D Money 01-22-2010 04:12 PM

Oh you're running wipers? I took out the motor and ran my brake lines up there. I don't want wipers! Plus you can get rid of that part of the harness and just run the three wires to the trans.

The pedals dummy, where the resoviors are on the tops?
9vapors 01-22-2010 04:21 PM

Yeah, I don't want the wipers, but I don't have a solution for the plastic that goes over that section. In retro, I guess I could have had something made in Carbon or something. what are you doing for that?

The reservoirs are remote and are made from a block of billet aluminum.

D Money 01-22-2010 04:33 PM

Gotcha. So youre pedal assembly doesn't have the tanks above the pedals? Rather you can mount them anywhere? I saw Ryan Ramierz mounted his in the passenger air bag section of his is300.

**** it, I was going to leave those two holes and just put plugs in them or something. It can't look that bad. Or I guess I could have the body shop fill them with plastic and repaint it flat black.
SupDooD 01-22-2010 04:36 PM

I really wanna clean my bay up...lots of good ideas in this thrad

altezza2impreza 02-04-2010 11:12 PM

just curious why you went with an sr? if this is for the drift the s2000 engine holds higher rev's and has preformed better IN TERMS OF CONSTANT RELIABILITY. I believe there is a 240 with a f20 for that very reason.
D Money 02-04-2010 11:31 PM

If you're trying to shave a bay in a subaru, just be ready to spend $20-30k. I mean you could do it for less, but if you're not refinishing every part, or using high end paint, and going for big power then what's the point? :)

I love it, but my wallet hates it. :(

i am not a fan of trailer queens but i swear i would cry if your car ever got injured D. damn that thing is coming along perfect! are you pretty happy compared to your previous expectations?
D Money 02-04-2010 11:42 PM

Trailer queen? Where?

My car will never see a trailer. It's a street car. Just pretty, that's it. No go at all! :)

It turned out great IMO. I wish I knew then what I know now, because I could have deleted even more! The only thing im waiting on is my intake manifold and the bay should be good to go.
altezza2impreza 02-04-2010 11:45 PM

oh lol i meant that im not a fan of trailer queens but at the same time soOOOOOO much time has gone into every little detail that a vandalism act or careless driver would destroy months if not years of work, money and time. im glad you'll have it on the street im just scared for you haha
D Money 02-04-2010 11:47 PM

I've never been in an accident in my life. I should be good, but you're right anything can happen. It was nice before and I always drove it around, to work, school, etc. haha

Yeah im worried about it getting stolen or vandalized also. It gets parked on the street because it's too low for the driveway.

Why dont you get a radiator hard pipe made, or at least match it with all the rest of the black tubing.
D Money 02-05-2010 01:53 AM

^I chose to do the radiator hose in the blue. I decided against the blue couplers on the intercooler because it looked cheapy.

radiator hard pipe? Like supras do? the angle near that intercooler pipe is really close, im not sure if I could pull that off.

I couldn't possibly get that kit from you. If I did, I would be aiding you in selling your rhd, fully tubbed, & caged machine and I just can't let that happen. My ultimate goal is to be riding side by side with you on the highway in the spring giving you a pound.
