came out awesome man!!! Congrats. More pics with the wheels. haha
haha, I haven't even taken any pics of them yet. I destroyed my first set up overfenders, because my passenger rear shock is shot. I have no rubbing issues though unless I have a passenger and it only rubs on the passenger side. Granted i'm not slammed but I am stuck at my height because my coilovers are locked up.
thanks tho dude, nothing compared to your bay, but I think it came out good with the alotted time I had. I have to extend that alternator wire and get the main engine harness out of the way on the driver side and it should be close to done.
Yeah, just a few small issues, pinched brake line, therefore manual brakes. So I'll be fixing that tomorrow. Needs a good hose tuck then I'll be done amongst other minor things.
Also threw in my V-Mount, looks so good.
I'll post good pics up once my build is done.
nice man. how did you manage that pinched line? did you hand bend them? I have to tuck away some lines as well, I have just been lazy though lol.

one question,
the cables from the inlet harness to the fusebox, how do you lengthen them, cut and solder or depin and run new wires? and wher do you run the cable to the fuse bax once you have re worked the fuse box to the inner fender?
Thanks

The only wire I lengthened was the wire from the fuse box to the alternator. Everything else was just un-wrapped and re-wrapped. The engine harness plugs were shifted to the rear of the engine.
The wiring harness from the drivers fender was un-wrapped/re-wrapped and the engine harness parts were brought through by the steering. The Alternator wire is tucked down beside the belt covers so you can't see it.

What are some of the easy ways to clean up the engine bay. Going home on leave for a month, and would like to get rid of some of the unneccesary stuff.

They are covers that are made out of fiberglass.. I raised the covers an inch and a half so that I could tuck wires under them. Fuse box is in the fender.
Paint is a textured graphite that feels like 200grit rubberized sandpaper... Some pics of the paint can be found here:

Stock intake manifold with a few things shaved off the bottom coupled with GS phenolic spacers to help clear the alternator

8mm is fine and as far as removing things from the IM I ground everything off the bottom, its all useless anyways, and grind off what you don't want/need on the top. You also have to lower the alternator and get a shorter belt (possibly 34in I'm not sure) The evap line on the IM also either needs to extended or plugged and moved to the opposite side (via drill and tap/die)

I routed the lines behind my brake booster and one of the lines got pinched in between the firewall and booster, fixed that a couple days ago.
I used a little hand bender to bend them, so technically by hand, yes, but with a tool...LOL.
After fixing my line though, still no brakes...WTF!!! If someone could help me and let my know what lines go to MC1 and MC2 on the ABS block that would great I also assume that FL, FR, RL and RR is self explanatory on the ABS unit. If not I have some horribly messed up and backwards lines. Which is weird because I re traced them like 10000x before I routed them.
But I am so used to having no brakes it's a non-issue. Not "no brakes" but manual brakes like crazy. I have bled and re-b;ed like 10 times already. Every time thinking I have solved the issue, but no, never.
Help somebody please...LOL.

MC1 goes on the top port of the master cylinder, MC2 goes on the bottom. The top port on the proportioning valve goes to RL and the bottom is RR.

it's under vacuum so you wouldn't feel or hear a leak per say. More than likely a loose fit was your issue.

This is the latest car I'm building. It's a gc rs. I welded flat panels on both sides. The engine wiring all comes through the firewall and the fuse box is in the fender. Battery and washer jar are in the trunk. ABS is deleted with factory non-abs lines. Staying with top mount so nothing will go through inner fenders. It's got a full cage, ce 28n's, brides, low and ej205 swap.

they slide out. There is clips/tabs on either side of them, and you have to release them and it will slide out of the fuse box.

All of the loom can be disconnected from the fuse box so you should be able to re-wire it to any position as long as you are prepared to do some lengthing shorting.
I would stay away from anything shielded unless you can trace that wire right back to the ecu and run a completely new one.
My car is back to clean up the engine bay some more. I have re-made the resiviors and relocated the coolant tank to my oil/air separator. The power steering lines line will go through the fender and around rather than across.
Also getting my wiring re-done from a friend. We are just choping the loom them routing to the most neatest place and then re-connecting.. The connections should all be behind the motor so hopefully there isnt much of the loom to see once we are finished. Also got a carbon cover made up which will sit below the manifold...

I'm just beginning to get into this. Well, my motives are primarily weight reduction and relocation, but now that a few things are missing from the engine bay, I'm wanting to go even further and make it look nice as well.
I relocated my battery to beneath the passenger seat the other day, and the metal platform that the battery previously sat on in the engine bay is beginning to bug me. I'll probably just drill it out, but then I'll have holes to fill. What are other people doing to fill such holes?
Options seem to be:
1. Press copper up to the holes from the bottom and fill them in with a mig welder.
2. Make a patch and solder it in like this guy has. http://wiki.owwm.com/Repairing%20Holes%20in%20Sheet%20Metal.ashx
3. Rather than drilling out the welds, grind the areas around the welds enough for the piece to come off without leaving any holes.
Any insight from guys who have done this before would be swell.

3. Rather than drilling out the welds, grind the areas around the welds enough for the piece to come off without leaving any holes.
Any insight from guys who have done this before would be swell.
2. Make a patch and solder it in like this guy has. http://wiki.owwm.com/Repairing%20Holes%20in%20Sheet%20Metal.ashx

it depends on your budget honestly, and how smooth you want it to look. I went option 3.

I didn't realize I didn't sand one spot closer to the headlight as much as I should have, but you can't really see it.

That looks pretty good. Did you have to smooth out any divits with bondo, or is that paint over raw metal? I'll probably go that route since it seems to work well, and is the least destructive. I might hold off on it for a while though since repainting the engine bay is more than I'd like to do just now.

i'm a novice at body work, so I thought it would be best to drill out the spot welds, worked great bbut if you miss any bits it make a complete mess like i found out, going to have a panel welded over the top for me.

Looks like mine minus the 3.5" hole for my old FMIC pipe. Where the battery once sat I just took a hole saw and cut through both parts then drilled out the spot welds. Once I smooth it out I'll be ready for some O1G BC/CC.

I was in a fight against time, so just sanded down, painted over raw metal.

Love those cars, fun right out of the box. Besides the Renault GTA, we as Americans missed out on some really good sub-compacts from Europe at that time. But the first GTI was the best.

Yes that hole, theres another on top of one of the runners.

I'm not shure if I need one. I picked up a 70mm billit throttle body. The intake manifold needs to be bored out about 10mm more.
