'04 seats more durable than '02 seats?

I looked at an '04 wrx and noticed the seats looked to be stitched out of a much better cloth. I can see some of the threads of my '02 already starting to become loose, it'll only be a matter of time before they come apart entirely. To say the least, that's slightly disappointing.
Are the '04 seats built better? They certainly look nicer, but alot of people seem to like the '02 seats 'fit' better.

Heard the 04 seats are a lot stiffer and less comfortable than the 02/03's... they seem to look better but that might be it?
My dealer is replacing my driver's side seat cover because of some threads coming loose.

I have had my car for only a few months and there are a few breaks in the fabric in those little O's (for lack of a better description). I have been very carefull with it.

today, the 29th, strikes the 2 month anniversary of purchasing my rex :D and the 04 seats are awesome. they do a great job of keeping your butt0x in place as well as providing some good cushion.
my spine nestles comfortably into the seat and the edges have those little dips for your elbows to be "exposed" if they have to.
if i had a picture i could describe things a little better....
but about the durability, i've seen no problems after 2k miles.

I've noticed the perforated stuff will wear and fade if you happen to have a wallet in your back pocket while driving around. So keep that in mind.

the 04 seats look great...
but feel like crap...
they hurt your back on short (2 hour) road trips, and have little to no support... about on par with the old RS seats... don't waste your time or money...

Hmmm - glad I didn't swap out for the 04s then. I do like the looks of them, but comfort is more important to me :)

They do feel like crap, i get back aches just driving 15 minutes to and from school, and i MUST sit completely upright with my butt all the way in the seat to get even one bit of support for my lower back.
I'm thinking of either some sparco lower back support pads, or stealing 02 seats out of my mom's wrx.

maybe its just the way you sit?
in my MY01 GC the seats gave me MAJOR back pain after the 3 hr dr to visit my folks....in the MY04 RS the seats are great after three hrs...i could only start to feel some discomfort....

The MY04 RS seats are the 02-03 WRX seats I believe so they aren't the seats we're referring to. The MY04 WRX and STi seats are similar except the covers of course :)

Ditto. After about 2000 miles mine looked worn. I'm not at all impressed with the durability.

i love the way the 04's look and they way they hold u but i think that the 02 to 03 are way more comfortable and feel like they hold u a little better, i have to drive five hours to school and the 04 seats are just real stiff,

49,100 Miles later my 2002 Seats are still in pretty good shape, the side bolsters are stretched out (due to my fat ass) but the seat still holds me in.

but I better reconsider getting one....

Well, remember you are asking an opinion based question so you aren`t really going to get the definitive answer you hope for in terms of the comfort of the '04 seats. Personally, I have no problem with mine, but I can`t compare it to 02~03s since I have never sat in one. Im 6'4" and sit pretty upright and find no discomfort in these seats...No, they don`t wrap you up and tuck you in at night the way that Cadillac seats do, but then again you didn`t buy a Cadillac. They could probably benefit from a little more padding but as they are I find them to be just fine. Thats just me though, maybe you will sit in them only to find you would rather saw your arm off with a spoon..who knows?

True. My drivers seat is wearing where my wallet is, but I think it is from pivoting my bottom to get out of the car, not from just sitting there. I wish they would have made the material in the center part of the seat more durable. Other than that I don't get backaches and I find the seats comfortable and supportive.

They've already replaced the left bolster and seat cover on my drivers seat (I have a fat ass too) but it's already starting to show wear, I give it another six months or so. None of my volkswagens did this so I don't know, I think the shape and comfort of the '02 is unflawed, but the materials are not up to par. I was thinking of getting some torinos, but I don't want to lose my airbags, so as a remedy I was thinking of the '04 seats covered in leather.

04 seats looks good but doesn't have much support as the 02-03 seats and my back hurts like hell after 1hr in the car  they made this lump on the seat, that suppose to support your back  but does the opposite.
Don't waste your money on these seat, just go get some sparco or recaro seat

I have had my car since August and have 12,000 miles on it. I spend at least three hours in my car a day. I also have a "wallet" in my back pocket. I do not have any issues with wear or fade and the seats are very comfy.
Opinions, Opinions, Opinions....
Everybody should realize that not everyone is the same size. I am a big guy with a bad back and the seats are perfect. Just because you have problems with the seats doesn't mean everyone will.

I personally enjoy the 04 Seats I just wish they would of provided a better material for durability. The only thing with going with Sparco for me is I have the Premium Package and I love my heated seats. So soothing and nice, they get real warm way before the car does. So when I leave for work at 6:30 I'm not freezing my butt off. If you get a leather interior does it replace the current seat covers then?

Hmm, here is an idea! Why don't you guys wrap 02 seats in some durable leather?:disco:
BTW my fabric stockers still look pretty good after 1 year of use.
