Brazilian Grand Prix part 1

Dussander 10-22-2004 01:16 PM

Brazilian Grand Prix
Post your picks.
You can watch the live qualifying (1 and 2) tomorrow on a PC since it is at a reasonable time.
Ferg 10-22-2004 04:34 PM

I think a three stopping BAR might just have enough to beat a two stopping Ferrari...assuming Ferrari are forced to run the harder Bridgestone and a heavier fuel load for qualifying.

I'll give the win to Button if it's dry, Rubens if it's wet.
gtguy 10-23-2004 11:10 AM

1. Barrichello (He's due, and has the machine)
2. Raikkonen (McLaren is always fast in Brazil)
3. M. Schumacher (Just a feeling)
4. D. Coulthard (Inspired by potential joblessness)
5. R. Schumacher (still on the comeback trail)
6. J. Button (A mechanic will sabotage his car for wanting to leave BAR  )
7. Trulli (Call me crazy...)
8. Sato

Whoa, this just in...high-speed crash in the fourth practice session from one M. Schumacher. The F2004 is destroyed, but the engine might be alright, which means he won't get the 10-position qualifying penalty. More to come...

But before the crash, he and Barrichello were running low 1:10s, which is CRAZY at Interlagos. That's more than three seconds faster than last year's pole time.

Kevin
gtguy 10-23-2004 11:14 AM

Holy cow! M. Schumacher just ran a 1:10:1 in provisional qualifying. He's running the spare Ferrari, so wherever he qualifies, subtract ten grid spots from that.

It's getting crazier...Montoya just did a 1:09, so you know that others will be faster.

Massa (yes, Massa) went faster than Schumacher, and so did...Woobins, with a 1:09:8.

Starting Grid...

1 Rubens Barrichello Ferrari 1m10.646s
2 Juan Pablo Montoya Williams 1m10.850s
3 Kimi Raikkonen McLaren 1m10.892s
4 Felipe Massa Sauber 1m10.922s
5 Jenson Button BAR 1m11.092s
6 Takuma Sato BAR 1m11.120s
7 Ralf Schumacher Williams 1m11.131s
8 Fernando Alonso Renault 1m11.454s
9 Jarno Trulli Toyota 1m11.483s
10 Giancarlo Fisichella Sauber 1m11.571s
11 Mark Webber Jaguar 1m11.665s
12 David Coulthard McLaren 1m11.750s
13 Jacques Villeneuve Renault 1m11.836s
14 Ricardo Zonta Toyota 1m11.974s
15 Christian Klien Jaguar 1m12.211s
16 Nick Heidfeld Jordan 1m12.829s
17 Timo Glock Jordan 1m13.502s
18 Michael Schumacher Ferrari 1m11.386s
19 Zsolt Baumgartner Minardi 1m13.550s
20 Gianmaria Bruni Minardi
NapTown2.5rs 10-23-2004 05:38 PM

My top 5 picks.

1. Kimi Riakkonen
2. Juan Pablo Montoya
3. Jenson Button
4. Ralf Shumacher
5. Fernando Alonso

I think thirteen spots might be a little more than Michael can overcome in the T car to crack the top 5. Massa, I don't think will be much of a factor as the race progresses. And once again Rubens will fall to the gremlins of his home Grand Prix, along with Takuma Sato who will also suffer some sort of mechanical failure in the Honda.
gtguy 10-23-2004 06:51 PM

I'm sticking with Woobins. If the Red Sox could overcome the Yankees, Woobins can win in Brazil.

M. Schumacher is hosed. He'll be past the Jordans and the Jag by the first real corner, but Villeneuve is going to make his car verrry wide, and DC has never been easy to pass. I'm guessing, from the qualifying pace shown by Schumacher, that he's on heavy fuel and hard Bridgestones, which might mean a one-stopper? Most people will do three, and Coulthard will almost certainly do two. He almost always has this season.

Where did Massa suddenly find speed? Villeneuve will have a pretty good car next year.

Kevin
NapTown2.5rs 10-23-2004 07:05 PM

I'll give a top 6 to DC for this being his last Grand Prix with McLaren. I would really like to see him end up in the other Williams seat next year to make things interesting.

Go McLaren!
Ferg 10-23-2004 07:51 PM

I'd like to believe Schumacher is royally hosed...but how many times have we seen him start from nowhere, sit back on heavy fuel, wait for the stops to come, then leap-frog half the field. One stop on hard tires...I bet he sees the top five at the end. Unless of course he has another stellar performace like China..

I think the BARs will both be two stopping seeing as they opted for the harder Michelin... After seeing Ruben's pace and determination though, I don't think they'll have enough rain or shine.

I'm worried about Massa starting fourth...he's still wild. I'd hate to see him take out Rubens, Montoya, and Kimi on that run into turn one.

Anybody want to talk about St. Paul?

Glad it's going to be on in a time zone where I'm lekely to be awake to watch!

I need to have great picks this week to podium for the year.

So here are my great picks:

1. MS
2. RB
3. Button
4. Raikkonen
5. Alonso
6. Montoya
7. Ralfie
8. Fisi

In a fit of euphoria over the Red Sox comeback win, I hope that Jim Rider and Ken March pick Zolt, the Jordans, the Toyotas and the Jags this weekend.

At which point the weather goes to pot, and two Jaguar's finish 1-2...

(I was kinda hoping they stumble, too!)

So I decided to scramble up the bottom half, hoping it gets weird:

M.Schumacher
R.Barrichello
J.Button
K.Raikkonen
G.Fisichella
J.Trulli
D.Coulthard
T.Sato

Rubens wins
grandpa rex 10-24-2004 07:38 AM

Thanks ArtGecko for moving me over from the other thread. Guess folks wanted to talk about Sao Paulo rather than St. Paul.

Since OnTheGas has promised Krispy Kremes for all podium finishers, I really need to finish strong this week.
srf 10-24-2004 11:01 AM

I'm hoping for Ruebens just because he deserves it. Hopefully Schumacher will battle through the grid & provide entertainment, but we know that isn't likely (from either F1 nor Shumacher).
2002pete 10-24-2004 02:51 PM

Juan Montoya scored an unexpected win in the final race of the 2000 Formula One world championship, ending his relationship with the Williams-BMW team on a high point.

The triumph disappointed the majority of the crowd, however, as Rubens Barrichello was demoted to third place by both Montoya and Kimi Raikkonen, who duelled for victory over the final half of a rain-affected race. Raikkonen looked able to take the lead as he powered his way to his final pit-stop, but Montoya had just enough in hand to regain the lead and hold it to the flag.

Fernando Alonso claimed fourth place, having led early on, but had to fend off a train that comprised both Schumacher brothers as well as Takuma Sato. Felipe Massa took the final point
StuBeck 10-24-2004 03:40 PM

Woo Hoo. I REALLY wanted Rubens to win, but if he couldn't, JPM would be the next choice. I'm annoyed with Klien though for taking out Webber...I wonder how he's going to spin that one so he isn't proven to be an asshat.
srf 10-24-2004 03:48 PM

That was depressing but not too surprising. I'd rather see anyone but 12-year-old-mentality JPM win.
ArtGecko 10-24-2004 06:23 PM

No Krispy Kremes for us, Grandpa Rex.

Ah, there's always next year...

Steve
BillT 10-24-2004 09:34 PM

I was hoping to see a little more drama towards the end with the race for 4-5-6-7 place runners...hopefully next year will have a little more variety than this year when it comes to podium visits.
shoracer 10-25-2004 01:28 AM

I second SRF statements.
grandpa rex 10-25-2004 06:22 AM

Wrong you are, ArtGecko. It's Krispy Kreme's for me courtesy of OnTheGas. Ken Rider didn't make any picks this week, allowing my measly 33 points to pass him for third on our group podium for the year. OTG: make mine the classic originals. I'll be in SoCal before the end of the year to collect.
Dussander 10-25-2004 10:47 AM

\m/ for the Montoya win.
Leonardo 10-25-2004 01:25 PM

I am glad Montoya won!

Fred would have been proud! :(

Can't wait to see him in a McLaren/MB
srf 10-25-2004 02:47 PM

Maybe Dennis will get him in the mindset to win the war rather than the battle, Williams never was. =)

Seeing Kimi vs. Montoya will be interesting if nothing else.

I'm slightly bummed about Montoya's move to McLaren because the McLaren hats are pretty ugly compared to the William hats. :D
Leonardo 10-26-2004 09:35 AM

True!

When you go to the store at F1-live.com there are TONS of stuff about williams but nearly nothing about McLaren. Hopefully Montoya's figure will make them pump out more products!

Funny how they shake hands and not look at each other!
artkevin 10-26-2004 11:46 AM

Did anybody see the Ralhpie pass on Sato? The one unexpected pass of the race and I didn't see it!
Can't wait for next year to see if anybody can mount an attack on the red cars. McLaren and BAR should be top notch and Williams and Renualt shouldn't be too far behind them.
I hope Davidson or Coulthard gets the ghost Button seat.

Great pic. I love it!

I thought it was a good race, and I loved Peter Windsor's comment to Woobins about "well, it's not first, but it's better than retiring again, ain't it?"
