Which helmet do you use?
Just wondering what helmet you use for autocross. Thanx! And while we're at it, do you guys and gals use gloves (what kind, and if you say gardening, I'll give you an electronic pimp slap)?:p

No gloves, but I may pick up a cheap pair. dont think they'd really help anyways. Its just for style if anything :D

I don't have a helmet yet, but I'm planning on buying a cheap Snell 2000 approved (is that the right word?) open face helmet, for about $60. Don't know what brand or anything. Doesn't mean anything to me anyway.
I've borrowed a full-face helmet from a friend and I don't like it. It feels like I'm being smothered.
No gloves. But I'd like to get a harness. I just don't want to pay a lot.

The gloves don't help???? What? I imagine it gets hotter in TX than it does here and my hands sweat on hot days to the point my hands slide on the steering wheel. I am debating between buying official OMP type driving gloves, or just buying some NFL receiver gloves and using those this summer.

Oh, I have a Bieffe helmet too, full face SA rated. Don't buy a low buck helmet unless you have a low buck head...

where are you guys getting helmets for so cheap? i'm looking to get into autox, and have seen some people talking about $500+ helmets ... i'd like to find one more like ~$100 (and approved for autox, of course)! any help would be appreciated!

Bieffe might be nice, and for some $$$ you can get the F1 replicas, but they are not too good for folkd with glasses. Bell has a larger enough open area for that, but they are dated, and the quality workmanship on them are NOT what they used to be. ARAI are very good helmets, but are expen$ive. So I went with a SHOEI, and am very pleased with it.
You can get most helmets at Sube Sports in Huntington Beach, CA. Just DON'T tell Chad you have a Sube. He used to rally for them years ago, but suddenly he has a bug up his. . . . . against them????

SA2000 rated helmets are all around $500, but you don't really need these for autocross. I do need mine for some of the open track events I go to though. They are Nomex lined and are specifically for cars.
For autocross, you only need a M95 or M2000 (motorcycle) helmet; you can pick them up for A LOT less.
BTW, I have the Bieffe Predator. It's a pretty good SA2000 helmet for a relatively low price. Plus, I can use it for karting and driving schools; it has some aero. features.

My SA-2000 full-faced was around $250 or so... maybe closer to $200. I don't remember at the moment. Anyway, being in a closed-cockpit car, it seems perfectly safe to me, not to mention comfortable.

I got a plain white Bieffe full face for $99 at a local cycle shop. It's Snell 2000 for motorcycles, good enough for auto-x. I saw factory painted ones for the same price on the internet. Do a search. I wanted to try it on in person, so I bought locally. I use bicycle gloves with short fingers. I helps grip the wheel better. By the way, I wear glasses and the helmet works fine with them.

I have an HJC M2000 open face helmet...... it cost me $149 CDN or $0.38 US with the current exchange rate......
Just kidding......
As mentionned above, find a M2000 helmet and that will do the trick but if you already have a roll cage in your car, you'll need to buy an SA2000 helmet.....
Or check with your local AutoX club and see what they require.....

Well, I just bought a Shoei RF-900 in Anthracite from HelmetCity.com for a little over $300. It's a motorcycle helmet, so I figure it will be more versatile if I start riding bikes or Karts. I figure it will also be easier to get rid of if and when I get tired of it. Any advice/comments?

I have a Simpson LX8. Good helmet, extremely light, but it's very tall on top and rubs on the roof of my Impreza. Bell Mag4 or 5 wouldn't.

I'm getting ready to buy a new SA2000 closed-face helmet for open track events in my convertible Mustang. I'm considering the Bell M2 and the Bieffe F1 or Predator. The best prices I've found on the Bieffe stuff thus far is www.racehelmet.com . Get Fast Parts http://www.get-fast.net/parts.html had the best price on the M2, but that was before I saw the deals Racer Wholesale has right now - thanks for the link, Gary!
The guy who runs Get Fast Parts said he thinks the Bieffe's are much better helmets for the money. Here's what he sent me via email:
I will say that the Bieffe units are much better-made than the Bells. The fabric quality is higher, the stitching is stronger, the padding is more comfortable, the visor switchgear is metal instead of plastic, etc. The Bieffes are also a bit lighter because they are composite instead of fiberglass. The tradeoff is that the M2 has a larger eyeport and it's slightly cheaper.
I definitely dig that big, wide eye port on the M2, but if I can get a significantly better helmet for about $65 more (I was quoted $335 for the Predator), that's probably what I'll do. I'm going to order both and try them on to see what's best for me.

I guess no one listens? Try a SHOEI. I have one, it fits GREAT, and has plenty of room for my glasses. And its in the $200's. Also, the quality is excellent, and even has an indentation inside for your ears, as well as possible use of a mic/headphone set (as in rally).

I have 3 helmets in total.. I have a Shoei Wayne Gardner replica, an Arai Mick Doohan autographed helmet, and an AGV that I use regularly..

Just make sure you try a few on before you buy one. Fit makes a HUGE difference on how much you like or dislike a helmet, and they all fit differently!

I bought one of these $53jobs. For AutoX I think its just fine
Its not like you exceed 50mph often in AutoX wheras I do 70 on the highway with no helmet everyday.
