momo air leather shift knob

I am going to get this knob and wanted to know if it just replaces the stock one(plug and play). Or do I have to mod the boot so it fits correctly?? Thanks Justin

It depends on if you buy the one specifically for subaru or if you get the generic on.
www.subaruparts.com has the one that is for subaru's cars. Otherwise you will have to mod the boot as well as use bolts to mod the fitment of the knob (i.e. to get it to point the correct direction)

Anyone know if there is an All-leather version that is Subaru specific?

no problems....

I've got the half aluminum one, but it is the generic one. I have a 98 L, but I have a WRX leather boot. I just left the metal ring part that says momo on the bottom of the knob off, and slid the boot with the little rubber thingy over the threads on the knob. Has yet to come off.

Sorry for the crappy pic, but you can see the metal bottom part from the knob sitting in my little tray there.

There's also my adapter that makes the generic fit Momo knob fit like factory, with boot attachment :)

Get ready for the summertime. I have this knob and your hand is gonna look like the guy in Raiders of the Lost Ark when he picks up the medallion from the fire once the hot weather gets here.

I have the all-leather knob, and Paulie's adapter is the only way to go, in my opinion. His customer service is top-notch, just like his product.

W&L Subaru have them specifically for Subaru.. fits like a glove.

I always thought that was a feature of the knob, forces you to learn how to shift faster

Not as bad as the STi Titanium, which I used to have... I had to start driving with my bike gloves!

Paulies adapter? Do you have more info?
The all-leather one just looks better IMO. Espically with the black momo boot (had to replace the stock 80's style rubber one, lol.

Check here for info on the Paulie Adapter:

I also opted to go with the momo boot with my all-leather momo knob, but I have since gone to the Prodrive knob :)

Hank - Still got the momo knob you'd like to sell?
Edit: Also, which boot did you use? I have an Endurance boot with the silver collar thing. Think I could still use that with the adapter?
Thanks

I still have the momo knob sitting here right next to me actually, but I think I'm gonna hold on to it a little while longer until I'm 100% satisfied with the Prodrive.
I got the one from Subydude:
http://www.subydude.com/parts/index.php?interior
I don't think the adapter would work with the ring from the momo boot. I'm venturing this guess from what I have seen with the boot you have and Paulie's adapter.

Let me know if you decide to sell. Looks like I won't be using Paulie's adapter I guess.
Thanks for the info.

Ok.
Technically though, you still could use Paulie's adapter if you still want to protect your shifter's threads. Paulie made the adapter for two reasons:
1. To protect the shifter threads from the momo allen screws
2. Recreate the lip so the stock boot could go over it
You could simply dremel off the lip, and still use the rest of the adapter :)

Brilliant. I was thinking of just making an adapter, but that's a good call.
Looks like I'll PM Paulie for a price.

Don't mean to hijack... but can the "Paulie" adapter work for putting a manual MOMO shift know on an automatic?
I despise the stock shift knob, and there is very limited selection of aftermarkets knobs for the 4EAT.
I have a 2004 WRX 4EAT Wagon.
Thanks!

I don't know if it 'll work since it's dependent on the diameter of the shifter itself. I don't know the measurements of the AT shifter. However, you could opt for a momo that's especially made for the AT WRX :)
You can get it here:

Yeah, I've seen that Subaru Momo Auto Knob. I don't much care for it and was hoping this adapter could be used with a Momo or even Razo knob. I'll PM Paulie to see if he has any insight.

Has anyone heard from Paulie? I PM'ed him yesterday about price. I am currently using double-sided tape, which actually works really well but never thought about what the allen screws could be doing to the threads.
