how to disconnect daylight driving lights BUT...
still have lowbeams at night? I did search and came up with nothing...
| scoobypuff | 04-18-2002 12:51 PM |
okay I found it... UNPLUG the DRL control module - its a 10 connector plug which is located under the right outermost side under the glove box drirectly behind the high beam relay and the DRL relay
How does this contorl module look like?

dude the drl module is under hood on the passenger side underneath that black box top dealy with the 2 tabs stickin out of it. Try searching for DRL removal...

The 10 pin connector mentioned (as posted by Alfredesque(sp?) under the glove box is a better solution IMO. I've reconnected the underhood module and disconnected the DRL-MOD under the dash and it works great - no more DRL HID woes either :)

okay, I just looked and there are 2 plugs on the mostright corner of under glovebox. One is big and the other is small. Which one do I pull out?
| alfriedesq | 04-18-2002 05:46 PM |
Look for the two relays right next to each other a blue one and another one right next to it
The DRL moduel is the one right directly in front - (looking towards the front of the car - not upside down on your back) - its a black small box with a 10 prong plug - the only one with 10 spots on the plug - - just disconnect it - your done !

Its very easy to tell because the DRL unit has a sticker on it that says DRL Unit :)

Okay, I must be looking in wrong place. I just looked and I see 2 plugs (brown and green) on right most side next to that plastic cover(where I guess ECU is). I don't see any 10 prong anything besides that. What am I doing wrong? Do I have to remove the ECU plastic cover?

anyone? I know its soo obvious, I am just stupid! :(

DRL removal
I just removed the DRL module a couple days ago. Look between the passenger strut column and the air intake. You'll see a little silver box about the size of a tic-tac container but longer. remove 2 screws, then take the plug out. Put the screws back in, and your done. Or if you want better instructions, check out www.scoobymods.com

yeah...even I did it today:D
see my pic I posted earlier, in the top left corner there is a round black thing, well the module is right behind it (can't see it on pic though)

I need my name changed from scoobie newbie to scoobie-tard cause i can't figure this out either! I also only see a green, and a brown connectors on the right hand side under the glove box...and i have no idea how to count the connectors. Also: i am have an inherent fear of unplugging anything because i worry all the wheels will fall off, elves will appear, and my turbo will spontaneously combust.

thanks for your help but I want to do this from inside the car, not from hood part.

ok, i've been confused about something on this board for a while regarding this....
to those of you who don't want to unplug the resistor under the hood ... why not?
it effectively achieves the same result and is sooo easy to do. i left it in and just sealed the ends with electrical tape in case i want to reconnect it (like to sell it or something).
what would be the advantage of doing the inner relay???

Two reasons I went inside: 1) I heard that sometimes once you disconnect the under-hood module, it doesn't work anymore. 2) I wanted to wire a switch that I could turn on and off, so my dealer wouldn't complain.
I did this today: Remove glove box. On the right side, right next to metal bracket in front of airbag, is a 10ish pin harness. There is a light green wire on one side and a dark green on the other. I cut the dark green wire and put an on/off switch inline. If you don't want/need a switch, just cut the wire, tape it, and you're done. Thanks to some guy that posted this info on this very forum some time back. He did something similar to this, but wired a relay in so that DRLs only turned off when parking lights were on. Note he had a WRX and I have an RS, both '02.

hmm, ok, that makes sense.
i had thought of snipping just one of the wires at the resistor module to install a switch too, but just decided against it. and as for the part not working after it had been disconnected, that's why i sealed both plugs up really well with electrical tape.
and as far as the dealer complaining ... not freaking likely. why??? because they just don't notice that type of thing. the service guys at work didn't realize i had disconnected it, didn't realize what i disconnected when i told them, and didn't understand why i would even care. but then again, if my service guy gave me the green light for something, yours would probably cast eternal damnation upon you for the very same thing.

I believe the plug is clear with transparent yellow. Look for the wire colors: dark green on one side, light green on the other side. There was also a bigger yellow wire in there. Good luck.

hey guys... when i was doing this... i accidently unplugged another plug... it looked like some kind of relay.. it was brown... it's the first one you see when you look under the glove box. anybody know what this is? or any problems might come from doing this?
| alfriedesq | 04-19-2002 10:25 PM |
Just plug that brown one back in - I think it has something to do with the fuel pumps or something
Its the 10 prong plug in the picture we're after !
