2002 WRX parking light bulbs?

I have changed out all the headlight bulbs to super-whites except for the darn parking light. I was wondering what size bulb this was and where I could purchase it. Also how do I remove it?
klt599 06-13-2002 11:16 PM

Bulbs

They are W5W size
you ahev to take the headlights out to replace them its really easy though.
make sure you get some good ones phillips blue vision did nothing on mine they need to be really white to match the hyperwhites.
Hope this helps :p
Jasno999 06-14-2002 07:29 AM

So what are good bulbs to purchase and where can I get them from?
rupteur7000 06-14-2002 08:26 AM

i haven't found some nice looking replacements yet. on the other hand you don't have to take the headlight outto change those just twist the plug and pull it out.
Jasno999 06-14-2002 01:26 PM

Where can you find any W5W bulbs?
Jasno999 06-16-2002 09:44 PM

Really where can you find a W5W bulb?
jlee27 06-16-2002 11:16 PM

I'm using krypton 194's, a little on the blue side, but I bought 4 and have clear side-markers so the parking lights and side-markers are for show and the headlights are running PIAA Xtreme Whites, not a bad setup ;)

Anyhow, the parking lights are 194's or 168's, they both fit, haven't heard of W5W's:confused:

The front parking lights are 194s. Just do a search, there are a gazillion different things you can stick in those sockets.

Look in your manual, it's in there....I think they are 168 though. I'm using polarg's but their a little on the blue side.
ScoobyBoy 06-18-2002 02:49 AM

replacing those parking lights was a pain. had to take everything apart. it took forever cuz i was extremely careful, and i wasnt very sure what i was doing.
im using cuzo 12v 5w bulbs. they are hyper white, but they dont exactly match my headlights and foglights. (ive change the headlights and foglights too) they're close but still a little off. any 12v 5w bulb will work. its the same one for the license plate lights.
:D

PIAA plasma wedges, or whatever they are called.....LiquidIQ has them, you might want to pm him for the exact name..they match very well with his sylvania silverstars.....they are pricey though./..

Everything you need to know, Jasno99!!!

Jasno99,

I am going to give you everything you need to know and put an end to this...

'02 RS/WRX:

Headlights: 9007
Foglights: H3
Parking lights: 168/194 (they are the same size)
Side markers: 168/194 (see above)
License plate: 168/194 (see above)

Two brands of bulbs I used:

PIAA Xtreme White - a bit blue, but not bad, I like'em
Showoff Krypton series Xenon bulb - these things are so white and SO bright :D

In the past two weeks, I have changed out all of the above lights.

side markers: installed clear markers with the PIAAs
license plate: 2 bulbs - installed PIAAs
foglights: remove lights, unplug, and replaced with Showoffs
headlights and parking lights: remove grill, remove bugeyes, unplug, replaced heads with Showoffs, unplug parking lights, replaced with PIAAs (yes, you have to take out your bugeyes to get at the parking lights - check your owners manual, it says it in there).

Is there anything that I missed...I don't think so!

Let me know if you need more info.

Great post moses, thanks for the info.

Do you see the blueness of the PIAAs you put in the parking lights during the daytime when the lights are OFF? I put Philips Bluevisions in the side markers and you can't really see the blue when they're off, but the parking light housing seems like it's more transparent than the sides. I was going to experiment with switching the Bluevisions to the parking lights but don't want to pull everything apart if I don't have to.
Moses 06-20-2002 12:18 PM

Davearm,

Yes, I do see the blueness of the PIAAs in both the side markers and the parking lights when the lights are off.

I went with PIAAs because in many circles they are known as the best and I liked the slight blue tint from them...my car is Blue Ridge Pearl. Plus, PIAAs have a good warranty. I did not put PIAAs in the head and fog lights because they are just TOO expensive for me...I didn't want to think about blowing a $80-$100 pair of bulbs after the warranty runs up. The PIAA 168s only cost me $16 a pair.

I went with Showoff bulbs for both the head and fog lights because they came highly rated and they were fairly inexpensive. Plus, I heard things like "Showoffs are made by the same people that make PIAA" or "Showoffs are made in the same building as PIAAs". With those statements I felt pretty safe on my decision.

Yeah, I'll be the first one to admit that the two different types of bulbs (Showoff and PIAA) are different shades. But it doesn't really bother me. I can drive around during the day shagging with my side markers and parking lights on. During the night, I turn on all bulbs and they just blend in together.

Last night I did the foglight mod. With the foglights on with the side and parking lights it looks a bit ackward because of the two shades of light. But hey, I didn't really do the mod to drive around with the fogs on. I did it to have the fogs on with the high beams and to have the ability to turn off the headlights and just use fogs on foggy nights. I did have one question about the mod, but I will ask that in a new thread.

Now that most of my "cosmetic" changes are done (debadge, new lights, foglight mod) next comes my Cobb and various other perf purchases. First one - STi short throw and STi trans mount.

OK, so I used Sylvania's Silverstars for the headlights...didn't see any increase at all except it is whiter, but not brighter...that's ok...Now I need better fog lights, BRIGHTER, andwhiter if possible...that will not melt my harness. Any suggestions?

I REALLY need the fog lights to back me up in many long dark places I have to drive daily..
Jasno999 06-25-2002 08:16 AM

Foglights-

Go with the PIAA bulbs. They have a nice tint and will work with your factory harness without problem. HID is to expensive and complicated to install if you don't really want them. The PIAA bulbs are pretty easy to install and I like how they look. They light the road up well.
Julio 06-25-2002 09:18 AM

Any specific wattage?
Jasno999 06-26-2002 07:33 AM

I think it is 55-80W
