the side sills and mirrors are different as well

just FYI
SubEd 01-12-2003 08:21 AM

Dibs on kicking the first fool who spends $5600 for the STi "look".
GoodFinder 01-12-2003 10:45 AM

I can think of a lot of other things I'd spend $5,600 bucks on for my WRX!

GoodFinder :)
krazedant 01-12-2003 11:07 AM

Whoever does that to their car is pathetic. Be happy with what you have.
ZoomnWRX 01-12-2003 12:30 PM

seriously whoever spends that kinda cash simply to make it look like a newer model is INSANE. plus think how dumb you would look. hey this is a an 04? um no... its an 02 with the front and rear totally changed to look like an 04.
man what i could do to my car with an extra 5k!
Aziansupa-boi 01-12-2003 12:47 PM

I totally agree. For anyone to spend 5k + on just a face lift is crazy.
And the parts dun come painted and the labor cost on top of that too!
Ha ha dun forget the shipping :)
and for all that money you would only be getting the newer version stock look!!!
gjhsu 01-12-2003 02:48 PM

Holy crap, that wing is expensive.... :(
dRu888 01-12-2003 08:49 PM

what, a 2.5L 6speed turbo'd engine isn't included!???
128d 01-12-2003 09:05 PM

Where can I get the tail lights on the STi?
DrD 01-12-2003 09:45 PM

will cost more than that...

It's going to cost more than that, unless they like the primer look and can assemble it themselves... the add says most of the components are supplied unpainted - figure well over another grand to put it all together and paint the car... with any luck it's just a bolt on replacement - bet it's not that simple, though...
yebokmj 01-12-2003 10:12 PM

something to consider
That would be something to consider in a front end crash though. I know if I could do it under the insurance money I would.

HiFiWRX 01-12-2003 10:20 PM

I figure to each their own... I have ordered a set of Morettes and that's good enough for me! I wouldn't do it because you lose the my02/03 fog lights! That would SUCK... That's also why I will never have a FMIC (unless it is a MRT) so I can keep my fogs :D

Anyhow I do like the new STi Scoop and the new STi Rear spoiler! I wish the scoop would fit on the older style hoods! But alass.... :( and the STi rear spoiler..BEAUTIFUL!! But not $1600 beautiful!!

WRX with no options... $24k out the door probably

This kit installed... $6k+

If you have the money for this kit you have the money for an STi :)

Maybe it's a scam, and they are going to look up the addresses of people dumb enough to do this and kill them.

-rg
your misunderstanding me... I am not saying you should buy a base WRX and add this conversion on to it, that would be stupid!

Ok I am gonna play "devil's advocate" here... Say you already own a MY02 WRX.. You bought it new when they first came out.. you have done about $16,000 in mods already and it is the fastest WRX on the block you even swapped out the tranny for a 6 speed STi version (Yay for you :p ) Ok The one thing that has been buggin you is those DAMN Neon look-alike bug eye head lights (I just ordered Morettes to fix that ;)) So you come across this..

Now Pause... From what I hear here it would be better for you to get rid of the car you poured all this money and time into and buy a REAL STi (even though your car can eat a real STi alive up and down the track...) instead of doing the conversion to save yourself from being considered a "ricer" ... Is that what I am seeing?

Don't get me wrong.. I am not doing the conversion because I don't really like the overall look of the new STi (I would MUCH rather have a MY02 STi with Morette head lights...) But at the same time I don't see why people have to put so much into this "rice" business... WHO CARES what the other guy does?? Worry about your own cars and stop worrying about what other people like... I mean Really.. you have your own lives WORRY about them! lol :D

I am I the only one who actually LIKES the stock WRX headlights??

I specifically bought an '03 to get the bug eyes, and have the option of installing Morettes or the JDM bug eyes... and specifically to avoid the Nissan Altima-style headlights...

Then again my last car was a Neon... so what do I know :)

Kostamojen 01-13-2003 02:40 AM

Shoot, If I had an STI I would swap my front end for an older model for say $2000 :p
west_aust 01-13-2003 10:09 AM

so your saying that all the vw people who put jetta front end on a golf or the other way around are fool?

you can always sell you 02 wrx front end to a scrapyard or someone who was involved in an accident

Joshua
Yep, if you need to do body work, that's reasonable. But when you have a perfectly fine front/rear end, why bother?

But I bet you can convert the rear end to 04 look real cheap a year from now though. Think of all the new WRX sitting in junkyards ;) Front would be a bit harder to come by though :p
HiFiWRX 01-13-2003 02:16 PM

I thought it was interesting that it appeared to be a "direct swap" Perhaps even a straight across bolt on conversion.. That would be interesting because of the amount of changes... It looks like a whole new car...

I agree that the price as of now is outrageous... but a year or so from now I am betting the pricing will change.. And like others have stated there will no doubt be stupid street racers who will crash their new STi's while out running a Civic  so, that will leave an abundance of parts available for those of us that are smart enough to go to a track!
kenchan 01-13-2003 04:13 PM

im one of the few that bought the car even
though i thought it had a butt ugly front end
and ugly side view.

but considering its potential, i had faith and
put on some easy to get parts on it and
now it looks niiice! even wrx
haters like the way my wrx. hehehehe.

and i even kept my stocker headlights.

parts to get:
1. lower your ride!!
2. 17" wheels or even 18"
3. paint your side skirts
4. Sti v2 lip (my preference)
5. Sti grill (my preference)
6. Foglight mesh covers
interpath 01-13-2003 05:06 PM

Bug eyes rule?!
I am actually quite pleased with my front-end, after the morrette
headlamp conversion, subsequent addition of black mesh STI type fog light covers, and STI (taller & wider than stock) carbon fiber hood scoop...Agree with rexgroupie, also DrD-ditto. Finally, kenchan who started the thread also makes a point...re: modifications, as do the other posters...

I was more interested in the overall handling, especially brakes-stopping power and, well-performance and therefore went with the Stage II Vishnu upgrade path (my 2003 Sonic Yellow WRX at Vishnu URL below- now with 3000 miles and first oil change (no problems to date, and running stronger)):

http://216.110.171.17/vishnueditionwrx.htm

My interest in the new STI would be the internals, engineering etc.; the "look" just doesn't doesn't do it for me. Maybe it'll grow on me, but then again, I would have purchased a plain vanilla wraper car package if that was the case and still not have gotten an AWD vehicle! The entry point on cost and the fun I have had modding the car would't be the same if the base price was $32,000-35,000, unless 270-280 Hp was available at the flywheel with a 6-speed tranny, etc..Then I might...

interpath ;)
JC 01-13-2003 06:15 PM

I'd do the front end conversion if I had a WRX. Stop hating on people because they spend their money on different things than you.

JC
SonicYellowWRX 01-13-2003 06:29 PM

keep in mind they will make a WRX and RS as well... so instead of people having to BUY A NEW CAR they can just do the conversion... same thing really. WRX will be no different than the current models, aside from the obvious different body. if someone can spend $800 on jdm headlights, $300 for STi Grill, $200 on STi Scoop, $1400 on STi wing, and $300 on Fog light covers... then how can people say bad things about spending the money on a NEW STi conversion? Neither method is exactly cheap.

There is the center tach and the far improved seats. I imagine the tach is no big deal, but the seat will probably cost quite a bit.

In all, if you want the new front end, I'd say it's well worth it to just buy a new car.
