Windshield wipers part 1

impreza5555 10-11-2005 12:35 AM

Windshield wipers
Hey what kind of windshield wipers does everyone use? Subaru's OEM winters and springs kinda suck...

i've tried Bosch and they're a step above but still chatter and don't get a decent swipe.

comments appreciated

I've always used Bosch wipers with no complaints. One thing you might try adding to the mix for additional coolness is Rain-X. At speed you won't even need wipers as the rain will simply roll off the windshield as the Rain-X won't let it wet the glass.

I just switched to the Michelin wipers available at Target - they were recommended by Valhakar on wrxfanatics.com. A significant improvement over the Bosch and OEM wipers I've run previously.

I use PIAA's myself. Absolutely love them. Expensive but they are much better than the stock ones.

I wish i can use OEM ...after I bought my car, about a month it already started streaking...then i got it ''replaced'' by the stealership .. it seemed like they just reversed them (left -> Right vice versa ..i know different sizes) .. now the other side leaves streaks...and now they say they only switch them once
MyRuRex 10-11-2005 09:38 AM

Rain X is el stinky!!! started streaking inside a month!!!
Piaa's worked great...just $$$
I have Anco's...working so far. It's been only 2 weeks but it's been raining in NYC!!!
Bosch and rainx bugged me more actually...maybe applied the rainx wrong but either way...no worky for me!!!
john_matrix 10-11-2005 09:44 AM

I just got Boschs, they seem to work great.

I have heard mixed reviews about PIAA silicones, but I may try them in the future.

When I obtained my first Suby, I switched it over to using Honda blades and inserts. I came from the Honda realm and was happy with the performance from Honda wipers. My second (wagon, used) Suby came with Anco blades. They seemed to hold up pretty well, so I continue to use them. I believe they are the Anco Aerovantage blades. There is even an Anco Aerovantage blade that I can use with the rear wiper. $7-$8 per blade, and they usually last 6+ months. They will last a little longer if I supplement with RainX.

They chatter like crazy, because they get stuck folded over in one direction so the wiper ends up getting pushed instead of pulled across the glass.

If I unstick them, they work great until they get stuck again. Maybe it's my washer fluid causing them to get stuck.

I'm tempted to get those high dollar ones from Tirerack.

i read a thread about this a few months back, and bought the piaa's spent like 45 bucks shipped, and it was worth every penny, i love them

I just applied the Aquapel to the windshield and of course, it hasn't rained.
I found the biggest difference in wiper performance has been to keep the windshield clean - not just wiped clean, but polished clean (i.e. glass polish) followed by a sealant or rain-x/aquapel treatment.

I'll keep these PIAAs in mind since everyone seems to love them so much (or is it that you paid so much more for them you HAVE to love them? ;) )
wrxedya 10-12-2005 10:44 PM

like i said in my post my piaa honestly worked without flaw/streak for 2 plus years.......

obv worth it if other wipers are replaced every 6 months.....

After my OEMs streaked too much, I switched to PIAAs. Those were excellent wipers and lasted about 2 years. Then I tried the Innovision ones, (see thread) Those were OK and looked neat, but lasted less than 10 months with minimal rain.

Now I'm using RainX wipers. I've always used the RainX treatment on the glass and the water repels for about a month or so depending on how heavy the rain is. I haven't tried Aquapel, but I hear it's great. I don't mind applying the RainX once a month so that's not a big deal for me.

Although I have noticed one thing. No matter which wipers I used, they ALL chattered after a while. The RainX does its thing, but lets say after 3-4 days of straight rain, the wipers would chatter, even the PIAAs. After reapplying the RainX, they're good as new.

When these wipers crap out, I'll check out those Silblades...I saw something about a 5-year warranty....
silblades
I forgot to add the blades started streaking after around 2-3 years. The company replaced them for FREE! No hassles at all, read off info on receipt-new ones on the way. :)
Hank3 10-13-2005 08:14 AM

WRX4me - definitely give Aquapel a go; it's lasted me at least three to four months and it's still working really well. IIRC, it's advertised to work six months or so.

Mulder has them and he has reported some positive feedback on them.

wipers
I just bought some Bosch wipers and they are great so far, havn't tried them out at highway speeds with good ol' Wyoming wind yet (that will be the true test)
JnJassociates 10-13-2005 05:35 PM

We will be offering the PIAA Black Graphite blades shortly.

They are great wipers at a reasonable price. We should have a package deal that includes Aquapel and 303 Wiper Fluid tablets.

These wipers are quiet and very effective... Good bang for the buck!
