My interior changes so far. part 1

ScoobyChick4Life 09-28-2005 08:57 PM

My interior changes so far.
Just wanted to show you guys my progress with my interior. I rarely get a day off work so I finally got to do some work to the car last Sunday. I have mentioned this before that I hate my tan interior. The carpet isn't in the best shape so I am getting some new carpet in black. I am leaving my dash tan but I have taken apart all the vents and the console around the A/C switches and painted them back with Plasticote. Looks pretty good in my opinion. I also took my back seat out and used the interior carpet/seat spray paint dye, in black of course. I think I will end up doing the same to the front seats even though I am buying seat covers. I am getting the windows tinted on Friday so that should keep the seats from fading. And I will be using the same paint on some of my trim on the door panels and spraying the cloth inserts with the carpet/seat paint. I will post up pics of all that on Friday. Anyways here are the pics of everything I did last week.

I had always wanted to do all of the fabric trim black in my old L that also had a tan interior. Really want to see the pics!

Looks like you got overspray on the concrete and your extension cord

Yes the pieces look good. Big improvement. I'm glad you didnt do something ghey like neon green or baby blue. Looks stock but more fresh and upscale than original color.

Are you going to get in trouble when mommy and daddy find out you spray painted their concrete? :D

I dont like bright colors on interior, black is clean to me.
And I'm 27 and don't need to worry about my own driveway, and my mommy and daddy are deceased so I dont think they would mind. If you've seen the rest of the driveway you wouldnt worry about it either, lol.

My gauge is messed up. I need to get it fixed. Only thing on the car that doesnt work right. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt.

woa...what a coincidense. I JUST finished doing the exact same thing to my 97L today. friggin ugly ass beige interior! The back seat looks good! what dye did u use? where would I get some of that stuff.

I'm torn between just dying the front seats black...or trying my hand at some custom reapolstering...how hard would it be to sew a couple pieces of vinyl over the seat??? but question is...what do I use to sew it on!?
Jonnyfilmboy 09-30-2005 01:54 AM

Wow. Looks much better. Is it gloss though? Maybe try a semi-gloss or matte finish on the plastiparts. Nice job. Great idea.
BrentS 09-30-2005 10:54 AM

Wow that is a lot of work! have fun!

w3rd...something a bit closer to the finish of the rest of your dash. either that or 303 that sucka.
ScoobyChick4Life 09-30-2005 02:55 PM

I used a semi-gloss. Paint was still fresh when I took the pics. Doesnt look as shiney now. And the spray for the seat is Dupli-Color Vinyl & Fabric Coating. Says it does dashboards, door panels, seats and carpet. I got the one with the flat black cap instead of the gloss. I got mine at Advance Auto Parts for around $5 a can, but I'm sure you can get it anywhere. But it looks awesome on the vinyl part of the seat at the bottom. I have had some people ride in the back seat today and so far it doesn't come off on anything. It makes the seat a lil more rough to the touch but not hard. I like the way it turned out. I just got back from getting my windows tinted. Going out right now to start on some of the trim pieces on the door panels. Post up pics when I'm done.

You'd be FAR better off just getting a set of RS or WRX seats. They can be had very cheap (I got my WRX seats for $175 in PERFECT shape). RS seats (like 98-01) would even be cheaper I would imagine.

$175 vs $11.75......;)

Ok here is what I did today. Got my windows tinted 30%, yay. I took my door panels off and painted the window crank handle. door handle bezel, speaker cover and taped off and painted the cloth trim. Looks pretty good I think. I didn't paint the door handle because I didnt wanna mess with taking the whole mechanism apart and the lock woulda been tricky to do. I think it looks pretty good like it is. Adds a lil accent to the black trim.

Jeanna, congrats w/ all ur work. i just went to some 99-01 RS rear seats and some black corbeaus. i shoudl get some pics up one day :disco:
my front seats were getting pretty worn after ten years, so i needed something else.
Damn that's 30%! Mine is 35% and doesn't look anything like how dark yours is!
due to how much darker the interior is, less light is now transmitted OUT of teh car's interior. was very noticable when i started changing my interior. i have 35% on my L(MY95, green ext;tan interior)
IllNastyImpreza 10-01-2005 03:47 AM

wow killer job! snapping those rings out SUCKS without just taking the whole pannel off. I found that out the hard way...SNAP :furious: I fixed it up and just put it in the back

black looks GOOD. I looked @ my door handles though...and its gota be done! they look naked just like yours.

My next task is the interior light, then the front and rear speaker grills.
I'll try to post some pics too

i'm about to head down this painted trim road since i can't source grey crank window door panels... how is the paint holding up??

i did a test and put some "Varathane-Colors in Plastic" satin black spraypaint on a section of my hatch cover and it seems to bond very well after i cleaned the plastic with TSP

if this works its going to save me sooo much headache trying to source all the stupid little pieces that are tan, like the little trim around the rearview mirror and the interior light and all that...
ScoobyChick4Life 03-28-2006 09:29 AM

Its been holding up pretty good. Occasionally if u get a scratch u can just touch it up with a small soft bristle brush.
Donzo 03-28-2006 11:50 AM

pics don't work
tmeh 03-29-2006 06:41 AM

sounds good...

i'm slightly concerned about how it will hold up around the door handles though
blazzinbird 03-29-2006 08:08 AM

wow way to pull up old threads
