Zero Sports WRX CF Wing Adapter install w/lots of pics
Zero Sports WRX Carbon Fiber Wing Adapters. I didn't know Zero = Zelous Eloborate Robust Original Equipment. Straight from the box. Interesting as well the english description on the box is full of mispelling and grammer mistakes, quite funny. But seeing as I can't even read or understand one bit of Japanese I shouldn't be saying anything.
OK guys I can't hide them any longer. I put these on over a month ago and absolutly love them, so much so that I didn't want to post in fear that everyone would get a set. They raise the wing and slightly change the angle for better down force. They say the angle change is from 7% to 12%, but I can't read all of the Japanese text to really understand if they windtunnel tested it. But I have heard that all Zero sports aero kits are tested. They are real CF and they look great on the yellow. I like the look because I didn't want a giant ricey wing, but I wanted a little somehting, the stock is just boring. I got these from Japan. When I originally ordered them I was told the were backordered and they cancelled the order because they said Zero Sports was re'doing them with better CF. I then got an email saying they were back in stock and I had them at my door in about 10 days. I have seen them on iSR's site as well as others but I have no idea if they have them in stock.
The install was straight forward. No additional holes needed to be drilled into the trunk lid. The saftey cable DOES attach to the OEM mounting points with the adapters on. I did have to drill a whole in each of the wing adapters to pass the wire saftey cable through, but this was the only mod I needed to do. You will need a ratchet with a long extention and a deep 12mm socket, (I think it was a 12mm). The brake wire lead is long enough and no modifications necessary there either. The wing adapters must first be secured to the wing itself and then that assembly bolt back to the trunk lid using the oem hardware. There are two nuts molded into the bottom of each adapter to accept the oem trunk lid mounting bolt. I did have a couple of aggravating moments when trying to put the nuts on as they would fall inside the adapter. Its just such a long reach that the nut would fall out of my socket. Then when I was mounting the wing with the adapters to the trunk lid the bolt would fall into the sheetmetal of the under trunk and I had to fish them out once or twice but really it was a piece of cake and took maybe 45 mins.
Here's a pic of the kit itself:

I like the wheels on your car and the color;) Does the wing interfear more now that you made it higher up or is it about the same.

Looks good! I like the yellow/black theme throughout the car with the wing, headlights, and anthracite wheels.

OOOOOOOO
Looks Good!
I've gotta copy off you now! :D
Seriously though, I've been looking to get these but haven't seen any good pics. I think you 've convinced me to get some :D
Just one question, where the carbon fiber piece attaches to the wing. Is that joint flush or is there a step? Basically If I painted them, would you be able to tell that they are there and there is a step?
Thanks!

Sorry guys I was out of town for a long weekend.
Re: Does Wing interfere with the line of sight? Not really, it is taller, so now when I look out the rearview it blocks people's faces as they sit in the car behind a bit but I can still see clearly. I can only imagine the problem to be more pronounced with a bigger wing.
Re: Never heard of Foodworks? I have been in Uxbridge for 5yrs or so.
Re: How well does CF take paint? Not sure I can answer this one as I didn't paint it. :) It is real CF weave material but my guess is that it is not baked/autoclaved like CF for race cars. It appears to be real CF in a fiberglass type of clear gloss resin. (My guess is a lot if not all of CF available for our cars is not baked/autoclaved, but CF weave in a fiberglass type of resin, ie the CF hoods, etc. ) I think if you were to simply give it a brief sanding and prime and paint it, it would hold the paint fine. I mean real race cars paint CF all the time.
Re: price? I think I paid like $230 with shipping to me.
Re: Is the joint flush? Well I'd say its flush, but not to the point that if you paint it that it would look one piece. It wouldn't look one piece. But it wouldn't take a body shop much work to fill that so that if you wanted, it could look one piece.

What's with the STI rabbit emblem looking just like the new Impala logo. Are they the same? What's up with that? Other than than, those adapters look pretty sharp. I'd probably paint them though.

Impreza Guy - No sooner do I post that I have never seen Foodworks, than my drive home yesterday I notice a Chinese food restauraunt on Rt 122 in North Uxbridge. It's right next to a pool supply place I get supplies from. I've seen it there I just have never ate there and never caught the name before. So I take it back, yeah I know where it is.....
Sandkicker - The STi logo and the 'new' impala logo are indeed quite similar. But they are not the same. I think however that the impala logo is a deer? I don't know for sure but I think if and when the STi is marketed here that there is a copyright issue. I also think the STi logo was first, but maybe not copyrighted in the US first?

I was wondering when someone would mention the STi logo, the WRX on the mirrors and the prodrive on the front lip. All are scotchrite reflective black vinly custom decals from v6scoobie here on the board.
Aaron'z- Hmm... the suspect color matching of the Blaze yellow body parts, (bumper, scoop, door handles, etc) has been well documented. And while I think I agree, a low res pic from a digi camera in poor light is not the tool to use. I have examined the car in good light with the naked eye and I think the bumber match is good, I find the scoop and door handles to be off. Never trust a picture on the computer for color mathing.
Westy66 - Its performance related..... I have added about 5 degrees more wing and downforce to the rear end. :D

Those wing adapters look sweet on yellow... I installed mine about 3 weeks ago. I'll post some pics soon everybody can see what it looks like on my MBP RS.
| Kostamojen | 08-29-2001 02:33 AM |
The extender reminds me too much of the SeaWorld "Shamu" VW Beetle I saw driving around in Florida that had a huge whale fin on the back...
| jjameson | 08-29-2001 11:40 PM |
Kastamojen - If that looks like a big whale fin, what is your take on the HUGE 22B, Prodrive, Ver5., Ver6, Zero sports, or new WRC wings?, must make Shamu look like a bass. IMHO this is the least 'Whale' fin looking of all the wings I have seen. Funny that by simply raising the OEM wing 2-3" that it sudenly becomes a whale fin. Its the same tail just higher. All the other wings add significantly more hieght, weight, and impact (i.e. rice). Pleeze don't flame just my opinion.

The car looks EXTREMELY excellent. I would ditch the mirror decals though. Paint your side skirts too. Nice wing though!

i think he means cus the wing is flat (like the porsche whale tail). not that its necessarily *big*.

WHA!!! you get supplies from the pool place next to the restaurant? hahah what a coincidence, well that is my family restaurant but i never drive my subie there and only work there on saturdays, but at least you know its there. maybe you should try it some time.
| jacobhorn | 08-30-2001 03:39 AM |
I have to say that I usually hate the useless, ugly, high wings on cars, but yours makes your car look better. I especially like the black color with your Morettes and wheels. Very nice.
| Kostamojen | 08-30-2001 03:41 AM |
No, I mean it looks like a WHALE fin... not a Porsche whale fin, or even a 22b SPOILER (which both look like spoilers)
In real life, it looks like the car has a whale or even a porpoise stuck in the trunk with its tail coming out the back :p
Maybe it would look better painted, or on a MBP car? But I guess its cause I dont like the T type wings with the side over hang (and the aerodynamic shape of the stock spoiler already looks Whale-fin-ish)

Kostamojen - Ah I get it now. I was thinking Whale=big. I guess your right, it does kinda look like a whale tail. I still think its a little more subdued than other wing options.
Jacobhorn - I pretty much feel the same way. That's why I didn't want a huge wing.
Thanks for the compliments guys.....:)
Impreza Guy - Well now I have to stop in and try it. We usually eat take out Chinese once a week or so. You'll have to pick a Saturday and drive your ride in and we can get together. Why don't your drive your subie in? Uxbridge isn't exaclty crime ridden, unless you consider someone riding their bike against traffic a crime, and there are some pretty good back roads to play on.

Akord --> I also have them on my car and there was no drilling required the only thing I had to do was remove the top clip holding the wiring for the brake light so that it would reach.
I got mine from Pam at ISR

An impala is an animal? wow, i never knew that. i always thougth it was a gazelle or something. hehe.
I thought that the STi logo was a normal Subaru emblem, but with pink on the back. I also thought that the STi logo was an "i" with a pink backing. boy was i wrong.

No additional holes need to be drilled into the trunk deck. The only additional hole I did have to drill was in the adapter itself to allow the safty cable to pass through.
I think you are correct, when you buy and STi in Japan it comes with the pink 'i' logo's for the car. The bunny is a 'secondary' logo that identifies STi, but it does not appear on the STi car badges. The bunny 'STi' badge I put on, is my own interpretation of badging the rear trunk lid. It is not something I saw on a Jap spec car or anything like that. I just like to add a bit of confusion to people that have no clue. Is that an impala????

It most likely does offer some performance.
In this link you will see a flow test of a MY00
WRX and the flow seperates halfway down the back glass, by moving the fin up you are putting it in a flow so that it can do it's job. Very nice, I think I will start saving....

It is not an 02 so it might be a little different but I'm sure they are somewhat similiar.
