Driving Gloves? Anyone else use them?

After reading the red stiching post and already considering a post as this one, I was wondering if anyone else wears driving gloves besides me? If so what kind, how long they are lasting, etc.
I currently have a leather pair of Bell driving gloves, I believe they are for motorcycles but they are pretty sweet, comfortable, nice looking, and keep dirt off the knob and steering wheel. Everytime I don't wear them that shift knob looks a little bit dirtier, only thing is summer is coming and everyone gives me the weirdest look or says something when I put them on, along the lines of 'oh we are going to be driving hard?'... anyway... any others out there as anal as me?

There are numerous threads on this already. A quick search will yield what you're looking for. I've used my Advan shop gloves to drive on occaison.

I only use gloves when I'm clearing snow off my car. Then again... I've an AT.

Thats true that is the whole purpose of the car, I'm sorta split cause i get crazy and zoom all around these back roads, tires sreaching. But then I'm like 'I don't want you hands touching my paint!', don't you want your car to stay new as long as possible though

I agree to a point. But I like to keep my interior clean, and usally wipe down the interior with a cleaner/protectant once a week. But I'm not going to wear white gloves to keep the oils on my hand off the wheel and knob, :D
I hate it when I hear about people who store their Subaru's for the winter. :(

Overdoing it sometimes isn't that great either :) However, I shall try the gloves thing for kicks, just once maybe but I doubt i'll stick with it :)

I'm about to order a set of Wheelskins, but only because I am installing a Momo suede wheel. I want the extra grip and don't want to soil the suede with the oils from my hands. To each his own.

Heh I bought those too but for my GT4 wheel cause when I play that game for those endurance races, damn my plams sweat up a storm. I guess there is another reason too, I don't know why but my sweat is very acidic or has something it in that just destorys shift knobs. Maybe I'll take a pic and show you guys my old shift knob on my Nissan, its a Nismo black aluminum piece and man... the top part where my palm rested is faded real bad.
Oh but whenever I drive I always have a hand on the shift knob, unless I"m doing some serious driving... maybe thats why...

gloves are also good for those of us that have a metal shift knob (since oil and such USUALLY won't cause any problems)

Do you all know how much you get made fun of when some one see you in public with freakin' driving gloves on? Seriously, the skirt makes you look fat.

You should read the part in your Subaru Manual that states, NOT TO DRIVE WITH YOUR HAND RESTING ON YOUR SHIFT KNOB. :D
I sometimes wear gloves while driving, usually when it's cold out and I just have to have the windows rolled down.

I have a rag that I always keep handy whenver I notice too much dust or lint build-up. But normal driving, you can't beat the feel of the wheel.
No gloves for this guy.

My hands sweat a lot, so they get slick on the wheel. I find that leather gloves have great grip, so I often drive with gloves. More so in the winter though, when it's 15 degrees f out, and my wheel is cold as hell.
| QwikRex | 04-15-2006 02:47 AM |
Wearing gloves while daily driving seems a bit much. Only time I'd probably wear driving gloves is during an autocross to better grip the wheel.
| oldmansan | 04-15-2006 05:15 AM |
A little clarification. I have an 11:1 steering rack and am installing a 350mm Momo steering wheel. With a stock ratio steering rack, gloves are probably overkill. With a quick rack and substantially smaller steering wheel, a tiny bit of slip is dangerous, hence the need for gloves. They're not required, but they make more sense than sweaty hands on a slippery steering wheel surface. I'm not trying to be Ricky Racer, or look like him, but I seriously want a better contact patch between my hands and steering wheel.

When you AutoX you should have BOTH hands on the wheel, unless you're shifting.
