MY WRX trying hard to imitate a vw:)

Unfortunately I don't have pictures to proof it, but people tell me that I lift the inside rear wheel quite a bit during auto-x. And that's on street tires (Azenis).

Yes, the WRX has a lot of body roll. Makes perfect sense, considering the low spring rates. I think it's impressive how well it handles with this much body roll, Subarus don't seem to need very stiff springs to handle well. I still see a suspension upgrade coming for me.

And that's with 750lb front springs, 1050lb rear springs and front/rear Whiteline sway bars.

Here's Gary's car coming out of the "Skidpad" at the Streets of Willow Spring, during the Open Track Challenge. It has one of the least bodyroll I've got on my camera. I'll attach a photo of Pat Olsen's Legacy at the same location, and we were running DMS Gold already!

[Gary and Joel - I have some more photos of your car during the OTC. PM me your snail mail, and I'll send you a CD-ROM if you wish.]

yeah...

My last car was a '99 Maxima, and on a bad day at the autoX I got the inside back wheel several inches in the air. EMBarrassing. ;)

However, a correctly configured $380 set of KYB AGX shocks cleared that right up. In fact, even though I was getting fast times my friends told me my car looked "boring" because it just cruised flatly through the corners.

So I highly recommend shocks (if not also springs, if you want to stay in G stock) to flatten this body roll. You don't have to go crazy or spend a lot of money to fix it.

This is on R compound tired mind you, but I've found the wrx to have quite a but of body roll ;). .
Dms 50's go on soon though so hopefully I no longer look like I'm going to tip over at the local autox's.
Another quick one, this is how much is rolls without r compound tires.
direwlf 06-07-2002 09:08 PM

Turbosnow: Thats a normal amount of body roll for a stock (or reasonably close to stock) impreza. My 2.5RS isn't quite a doorhandle scraper but I do get a fair amount of body roll with stock springs and struts and a whiteline sway bar.

Arent the roll bars creating even more wheel lift? Only proper shocks will help the pissing dog problem. But that isnt really too bad, as long as it handles good- who cares how much it rolls?;)

has anyone seen a neon(or civic) on hoosiers autocross . .
has anyone seen a neon(or civic) on hoosiers autocross . .
Yep! One of our highly experienced local autocrossers runs a Neon on race tires. I'd swear there's at least 6" of sky under his inside rear tire on every tight corner.
direwlf 06-12-2002 09:23 PM

Older volkswagens are notorious for this too. There's a guy running a...87 I think golf that can nearly pick the back wheel up over a 12" pylon.
mturmel 06-12-2002 10:00 PM

Well,
here's mine... Mods are ajustable swaybar, HD swarbar mounts and ALK. Pretty low!

Does work pretty good on the track anyway.

Saw my friend (also an I-clubber) take a hard u-turn in a 91 GTI and I have to agree with your statement

I think the answer is yes.
TampaWRX 06-14-2002 08:54 PM

The pics look really cool though. :) I don't have much roll, but I'm running coil-overs and have sway bars, strut bars, links, mounts and ALK going in tomorrow. After that it's adjustable strut tops front and rear. That combo should eliminate most of the body roll we see in teh car stock...I won't ever be able to go back to stock struts/springs!! Tri-podding the car has suck!

"Miyogi, that's some smart drivin'!"

Scooby South 06-14-2002 09:06 PM

mine feels fine...but Bodyroll is still evident...
450 fronts....400 rears...with the Sway bar set at 24...
