Now are those really HID(xenon) or are they just white/blue colored bulbs? I think a lot of people on these forums confuse HID with just white or blue colored halogen lights.

They do indeed look like HID's. Maybe he used a HID kit, but those run in the hundreds of dollars. Is that what the original poster is looking for? or just blue looking foglights?

I'm the original poster... I'm looking for "real HIDs", so yeah, the ones that run in the hundreds of dollars. I would really appreciate it if anyone could post a pic of it on JDM fogs on a 04-05 WRX or STI. Thanks!

If you guys can hang tight I just got mine installed last week but haven't taken pictures.
05 STi. 10000K General Electric HID bulbs in the low beams. Very sick. 3200 Lumens! Direct from GE in Hungary.
JDM fogs with 8000K Vision HID kit in the fogs.
It is pretty damn bright.
The back of the JDM fogs are very shallow. Meaning there isn't much room in there to install anything other than a stock incandescent H3 bulb. The H3 HID bulb has a long back where the wires come out. After drilling a 25mm (1") hole in the back cover, I installed the bulb, fed the wires though, and pushed the gromment into the 1" hole. Fit was snug but it works without jeopardizing the integrity of the seal. So far no leaks. And I live in Oregon where it rains all the time so they would have fogged up by now!
I'll get photos up asap for you.

nice setup... but 10000K is not that bright at all.... its way too blue.. i love the look, but I drove with a friend who had them and sold them because when it rained.. there was no difference with the lights on or off.. too dangerous.....
i want to see the 8000K in the fogs... that will def. do great~!
it rains all the time in Oregon.. you have no problems with 10Kelvin hids??
good luck and post up pics...!!

Yes you are correct but only to a degree. Most 10K bulbs are made by cheap-o companies that tint the HID bulb to create the kelvin color the end user wants. Or the said Cheap-O company has little quality control and you end up with lights that aren't really what they say they are. THIS SERIOUSLY DIMINISHES THE LUMEN POWER.
Phillips and GE are the best OEM manufactures of HID bulbs in the world, bar none. These were just released by GE and had the same Lumen output as the stock 4200K ones, 3200 lumens. They are very bright. Now to make them brighter, they only come in D2S. The 04/05 STi calls for a D2R (R=Reflector housing, S=Projectory housing). The D2R has a painted stripe on part of the bulb to control the glare and thus limits the light output. The D2S bulb is way brighter than the D2R when placed in the 04/05 STi housing. Not really legal, but what is these days.
Now on to your point. I don't care to get into the Kelvin debat, but yes you are correct, 10K isn't that awesome for actual visable light. HOWEVER, 3200 lumnes and a D2S in a D2R slot is dizzamn bright. Trust me. You will see what I am talking about when I post my pictures in the next reply.
I just got home and finished downloading them.

My camera has a really hard time with the light output and glare from these bad boys, but this is the best I can do. Keep in mind it just started raining too so the roads were getting glossy black.

Well thank you very much. it is nice to know that I am not the only one who enjoys it. Actually there is a lot of little cool stuff you can't quite see from the photos like JDM S203 springs! But I will be posting a full write up of the car in about 2 weeks when my Carbon Fiber Syms wing shows up from Japan.
As for the 615's I love them. The sidwall is just as stiff, if not stiffer than the RE070. The 255 fits my 8" wide wheel so much better and makes the car look a lot beefier. The 255 weights .5 lbs less than the stock 225 RE070! Treadwear is 200, but believe it or not they grip better than the REO70. Now for the best part, they are a bit QUIETER! Not silent, but they sure are a lot quieter than the the stock ones.

Honestly it wasn't that hard. The back of the JDM fog has a cover with two screws. Remove the two screws, remove the cover, clip the wires inside so there isn't any extra junk in there (trust me you need the space). Make sure to save the wire clippings in case you ever want to go back to stock.
Each HID kit is different, but mine had a 25mm gromment (1") that the HID wires passed through. So I took a 1" forstner bit an drilled a hole dead center of the cover. Dead center is easy, heck I didn't even have to drill a pilot hole because the cover has a little dimple right in the middle, I just used it as a guide. With the hole in the cover, all i had to do was put the HID bulb in in the socket, then feed the wires and gromment though the hole in the cover. Push the cover back into it's stock location, reinstall the two screws that hold the cover on and make sure the gromment hasn't been crushed so you don't have leaks. Voila.
Honestly, the only hard part, that is difficult to explain is this: The base of the H3 HID bulb and the socket that the JDM H3 fog has, is a tight fit. HID bulbs have the black metal/ceramic rod that goes from base of the bulb to the tip, and this rod was right on the edge of touching the JDM housing at the base of the fog light. Simple fix really, I just pulled out my dremmel and gave a super tiny buzz to the base of the JDM fog so the metal/ceramic shaft would not come in contact with the fog housing. Some H3 HID bulbs may be slightly different so you may or may not encounter this. Truth is, if you ever decide to install them, when you go to slide the H3 HID bulb in the socket, you will see exactly what I am talking about. I just wanted a little extra insurance that everything would clear and nothing would touch. Sorry, i don't have pics, I knew I should have taken some. but I don't care to go rip them apart again.
Hope this helps.

And so you know, in real life, my HID's look a lot like the ones that JIN posted above. Mine don't glare as bad as you think, and not nearly as bad as my poor camera was showing.

Very interested in doing this. The 10,000K bulbs you got for your lows, they have to have less light output than the factory 4300K bulbs. Last I researched this topic, the highest non coated bulbs available were the 6000K Philips units the Le Mans cars ran, so I'm not even sure how 10,000K is possible.
As far as the tires go, what size 255 are those? 255/40 I assume? Everything clears in the rear?
Thanks

Lumens are the same, but as far as visible light it is a little less because blue washes out so easily. However, if you read above you will see why these are so bright for 10K. Read above about coating of bulbs, I explain it and how it relates to these bulbs. Hope it helps.
Yes they are 255 40 17. The fit is VERY snug. Just clears the strut and just clears the wheel lip. The 05 has not lip so it clears without an issue. Fronts are no problem. Car is lowered about .9 inches all the way around on JDM STi pink S203 springs.
