It's a easy install, have fun :)

I'm going to do a step-by-step on the install.. there doesn't seem to be one on Scoobymods.com yet.. so it's good to know it's going to be an easy install, wrxtreme2!

Jejunum, these are OEM (found in the 2004/2005 WRX/STi).. I bought them new from Suburuparts.com.

Sure there is

Only caution I would have is to be careful removing the trim ring around the door handles - you want to remove it by pushing out from the inside (where the lever is) and getting it to unclip - otherwise, they are prone to breaking.
Once you get the door panel off, you literally just remove the old one (pull the two control levers out, then undo the single screw) and put on the new one.

DrD.. thanks that's helpful.. but the write-up involves swapping the handles from the handle-housing into WRX ones from a Legacy.. and the pictures don't work on Scoobymods anymore..
Also, it's only $68 before shipping for a set of 4 complete handle-housings from an STi on Subaruparts.com..

Ha, yeah, those handle rings are a PITA, I just pop off the door panel and usually catch em when they go flying (don't open the door too much).

$68 is right around my price range, sweet. These would match my greddy chrome counterweight shift knob nicely.

They really do dress up the interior a lot!

install will be very very easy

I'd buy those right now, if only they were polished aluminum instead of chrome to match the rest of the interior.

Try taking some green SOS scub pad- *Warning not my fault if it kills the thing* However I did it on the back of my Ipod and gave it a nice brushed alloy look.

No, don't do that to these handles lol.. these are plastic dipped in chrome, you will remove all the chrome and be left with plastic handles.

I think maybe it's a chrome laquer/paint. I'm pretty sure it's impossible to chrome plastic because it won't conduct an electric current without melting, but I get what you mean. Good looking out.
| Diversion | 10-18-2004 11:42 PM |
Well yeah, I didn't mean "real" chrome dip.. =)

You certainly can plate metal on a plastic - it's done all the time (involves activating the surface - you can sort of think of that as putting down a conductive seed layer (which is an electroless process), then electroplating on that) You can also vapor deposit metals onto plastics as well.

You're right, they do have plastic powdercoating machines that put a magnetic field over the plastic to allow the powder to stick.. so there's a chance these were plated in real chrome..

wow wasn't aware of that, cool.
| djerickd | 10-19-2004 09:43 AM |
yeah look at all the chromed plastic toys out there, they use this process...
| FlyingFishSandwich | 10-19-2004 10:45 AM |
May be I could just take my handles off and paint them to match the rest of the interior parts?

I thought all those toys had just been painted with some kind of chrome paint or something... cause they usually flake pretty easily. Wonder how durable these handles are. I would hope a great deal more than those toys.

oh hell yeah, these handles aren't like that, they will last a LONG time...
| Diversion | 10-20-2004 03:27 AM |
I can't say if they are worth $68 for 4 of them or not.. but I do like em =) They really dress up the interior nicely.. uncheapens the interior a bit. I like the look of them a lot.
