Jared, there is a device subaru came out with to fix that.. there is a ring you can put under the mat to hold it up.. call your locla parts guy its a giant washer.

oh
aha.
I'll improvise, should be something I have in the garage.
After driving it home on Saturday, I thought the clutch was mushy... ended up just being the entire drivers side mat was under the pedals...

I had to fix mine with a hex bolt, some washers, a little jb weld, and some real weld.
Good luck.
Good luck.

the little plastic anchor that goes in the carpet?
I bow to your carpet welding ability ;)

yeah i'm actually having the same problems right now, annoying, but my anchor spot actually ripped a hole in my carpet so i'm trying to figure out what i can do now.
| Chapel | 12-12-2006 01:21 PM |
yeah, the hole in the carpet seems bigger than it should.

JDM mat anchors are made of metal and bolt to the two seat bolts.
Good luck finding them though, I got lucky and they came with my JDM floor mats.

and... JDMness... I'll have to look at those
| TheMadScientist | 12-12-2006 02:42 PM |
I don't care about the JDMness of them. At the time I bought my Sti the ONLY Sti floor mats I could get were JDM. I was not going through a winter in NE without floor mats in the car.

That happened to me. I pulled the drivers seat and the truck release stuff out, pulled up the carpet, and epoxy-ed the anchor to the underside of the carpet. No more problems.

Of course, can't believe I didn't think of that. Does it work?

Same problem here. I think I'll try the epoxy. BTW that later year hooks have more of an angled hook compared to the bulb the 02 has.

think I might find a washer with an interior hole big enough to shove the anchor in and then shove the washer into the carpet.
or, just zip tie it... or get diamond plate ;)

I had the same problem with mine. I used a bolt and two large washers and one smaller one. I put the big washers on the top adn the bottom of the carpet. Then i used the third washer on top of the floor mat and just tightened it all up. I tried jb weld but after about three months the jbweld started to fail. I would realy like to find the jdm anhcors that TheMadScientist
was talking about though.
was talking about though.

Hasnt anyone heard of velcro. You cant get a cleaner look, because you cant see it. I Just used one strip under the mat closest to the seat and it never moves unless I want to take it out for cleaning.

there is a new design hook and retainer. you can tell if yours is the new style, if there's a 1/4" yellow dot on the hook. if not go to the dealer get the real thing that now locks very firmly, and quit zip-tying jb-welded hardware store bolts into your car. if that stuff gets under your feet in an emergency situation....
| Chapel | 12-12-2006 09:50 PM |
actually, I was going to use the 'BMW Velcro installers' :)
| pityr | 12-12-2006 10:43 PM |
I used the end of a wire spool that was about 3". A washer about the same size will also work. I placed it between the anchor and the carpet. Then I attached the carpet to the anchor and secured it with a small cotter pin.
| gotsol | 12-14-2006 07:36 AM |
does the velcro stick to the carpet? or do you need both sides of velcro? If so, the tape sticks to the carpet?
| 100_Percent_Juice | 12-14-2006 03:41 PM |
I guess it all depends on the quality of your carpet. Mine is kind of shot and frayed a little so I just have velcro on the mat. My friend used velcro on both the mat and carpet. He used some kind of glue to stick the fuzzy piece of velcro to the carpet. I think he used the glue that you use to seam carpet.

I got this and it's totally worth the 16 bucks!! Go to the dealership and it looks like a shallow hook but holds really really well. Crazy expensive but worth it for the pain that the floormats are if they bunch up.
| AstroScooby | 12-14-2006 11:56 PM |
mine had the same problem 4 years ago i had the dealership reinstall new carpet under warranty and it hasnt happened since

well, I found some bolts and washers.
Put one small washer on the nut, one BIG washer on top of that washer and jammed it into the carpet.
I put ANOTHER washer on top of that and sandwiched the carpet between those two washers and tightened a nut onto it.
Then, I put another nut on top of that one and a washer on top of that...
Put the floormat on top of that washer, then found one of those lock nuts (the ones with the plastic bit on top) and put it on TOP of the floormat
Then on the nut/washer under the floormat, I tightened it to the top to sandwich the floormat between the washer and locknut.
done.
total cost.

Complain to a dealer... Why not? Is a safety issue, remeber the Audi 5000 and "Unintended Acceleration?"
| khail19 | 01-22-2007 11:25 PM |
I just made a little bracket out of sheet metal that bolts down under one of the seat bolts. I attached the stock anchor to the other end with a couple of small screws. My floormat never moves at all anymore, and removing it is still as easy as the stock setup.
