JDM Pink Caliper Paint part 1

JDM Pink Caliper Paint
Dear Subie Pals:

I am thinking of painting my calipers. I want to paint them JDM Pink, but I could not find any thing that matched the color, everyone has boring blue, silver, etc, but not JDM pink.

Does anyone here know where I can find some JDM pink caliper paint?

Gratefully,

JDM pink? I wasnt aware there was such a thing. You may be referring to cherry blossom red. I am sure about the cherry blossom not about the red part. But if you say cherry blossom any subaru place should know what you are talking about

Something is wrong with someone wanting to represent? :)

Public forum, public opinion I suppose....but if you aren't any help....

I would take the emblem into a paint store, they should be able to get you the correct match. Whether it will withstand brake heat is another question... I believe there is certain paint (promoted as such) for calipers. Your choice might be limited if only a certain paint type will withstand normal use.

I'm inclined in agree, to each their own so do what feels right and what you want.

i think it's cool to do whatever you want to your car..i mean it is yours..but pink even though it's the whole STi thing seems a bit much for calipers...maybe try the gold the STi gets (even STI didn't do pink ;) ) it might look better.....but as for me, siler or black :)

i agree with the whole heat and paint thing, but i've also heard unless you auto-x your car, the calipers won't get hot enough to mess with the paint? (i could be wrong though, don't hold me to this)

anyways, have fun and post pics if you do go pink...err "cherry blossom red" (it doesn't look red to me though :p )

I thought that Kleeman used pink calipers, but it looks like they are a purple color. Check out this site to see what you think. Maybe it can be a starting point for you. Good luck.

Thanks to those ....
Dear Subie Pals:

Thanks to those who provided constructive feedback. For some weird reason I like the bizzare Japanese color aesthetic. I am not sure why, I just do. My other choices would be blue, maybe gold, or red but everyone does red. Sure pink might look gay to some, but I am not 20 with something to prove. I just think it would look different and cool.

Anyone else with constructive feedback please continue to post.

Silver may look cool. I guess it would look like aluminum which would be different.

My WRX..
Dear Subie Pals:

Just so you know, I have a WR Blue WRX with Prodrive P7 gold rims.

Krylon makes a pink paint :)

http://www.krylon.com/paint/ps_color_card_cuts.asp

i'm sure if you go to a Home Depot, etc.. you can find something that will work.. i mean, unless you are mr. track day, your calipers are never going to get hot enough to warrant Foli-a-tec or mass high-temp paint anyway.

get the color you want and go for it.
who cares what anyone thinks.... :)

high temp engine paint is cheap and will resist the high temps... now finding it in cherry blossom red will be though...

Sorry, I meant it in a more joking fashion. I should have kept my comment to myself. Obviously he's looked at hi temp paint- that's what people use for brake calipers. The post is to see if anybody knows of something he missed. SubiGal was very helpful by commenting that the hi temp may not be necessary which opens the door to just about every color.

If you really decide on the pink, what about powdercoating? It would be a bit more pricey, but it would last. Here are some color samples that can be done. Pink is on there.

One website I found lists the price on disc brake calipers at $45-60 which I imagine is for a pair, but maybe all 4.

I wouldn't use standard spray paint though... I think she meant he didn't need the stupid $50 crud...

I would figure the JDM look would consist of Gold, Red, or Black, to coincide with the brakes the JDM Imprezas have come with...
bleuquila 05-22-2003 03:01 PM

this is just a thought I had, don't know if it would work - but when paint stores match colors for you, all they do is add the proper mixture of a few drops of color to a can of base paint. So, it would seem to me that if you bought white caliper paint, and brought it to a paint specialist with your i-badge or some other sample, that they ought to be able to match the color exactly and mix it into the base you supply. Ta dah! paint that's exactly the right color, and also has whatever special characteristics that caliper paint is created for. Just to be on the safe side.

I think it's a cool idea, personally :)
PPower 05-22-2003 03:36 PM

DanzBorin, I'm pretty sure that by JDM pink he meant STi pink. And she did mean regular spray paint. That's what the Krylon is.

bleuquila, good point. Better yet, get one bottle of red paint on high temperature paint and one of white to mix them. I forgot that not all of the types of caliper paint are spray.
Subie Gal 05-22-2003 05:15 PM

i've got my calipers painted with "regular" hammerite paint...

and it's not chipped... or had an issue with the
so-so high  temperatures of daily driving...

dude, use any paint you want...
just prep the calipers well so that it will stick fast :)

what about not daily driving?

not being an arse, would just like to know... track days, rally, autocross, long drives throught the twisties...

not too mention, Texas is rather warm to start off with... (now I realize air temp will not take paint off;), but doesn't exactly help either)

I just painted my calipers with black G2 paint, but the box has a picture of each of their 8(?) colors.

It's potentially a $40 gamble, but the G2 'purple' looks pretty damn pink on the box.
And whether or not I NEEDED to use 'caliper paint' I decided it was worth it to me, at all of $40.

I also painted most of the exposed rotor, as it was just as ugly (if not uglier) than the caliper.

Pink Paint
You can visit any bodyshop and have them custom mix a shade of pink for the calipers.

How's that working out Jason?

This product cannot be used for brake discs, pads or shoes. Should the product come into contact with any of those parts, the paint must be removed immediately or the part must be replaced.

Send 'em to me... I powdercoat calipers on a daily basis and can probably find the color you'd be looking for. Powdercoat will stand up to just about anything you can throw at it so no worries about chipping or messing up because of heat.

Pink calipers sounds schwule to me but to each his own. Ask for Pantone Process Magenta. That is Subaru STi pink.
