Whats the deal with the fake lights! :furious: Its starting to look like nascar!
Orion 01-17-2004 01:37 AM

Didn't the 01-02 Subaru have CF lights too, Morette style?

I don't understand why they went back to the base Lancer nose when they already updated it.
bemani 01-17-2004 02:21 AM

Hey, you just watch. They spent a whole year on that car, and obviously not with the aesthetic. Its gotta be fast :)
GC84ever 01-17-2004 03:07 AM

Well as they said before it's a fresh start for Mitsubishi. As I read in the current issue of RallyXS: ever since Tommi left, the team went has gone down hill.

BTW the car is based on the lancer and not the EVO8. I'm just confused why they just didn't develop the EVO8 SCCA Rally car more. It dominated last year in the SCCA Prorally.
nate49509 01-17-2004 03:12 AM

That thing looks horrible. It better be fast.
Kitsune 01-17-2004 04:27 AM

Damn, that is ugly. And I liked the new Williams.

Fake lights are reflective of the lack of night stages in WRC. Yay for BS.
Fitz 01-17-2004 08:10 AM

*shrug*... I'd drive it.

johnfelstead 01-17-2004 08:40 AM

Wait till you see it in the flesh, it's ermmmmm.........................Hideous. :D

Front isnt too bad but it has the ugliest arse of anything i have ever seen, and i have seen some ugly arsed things in my time. :D
sdecker 01-17-2004 11:10 AM

Yuk. The roof scoop literally looks like it was tacked on...

It better be fast if it's going to be that ugly.
Rev1 01-17-2004 11:14 AM

The rear end looks so unbalanced ... shopping cart wing?? I bet it does generate teh downforce ...
Big C 01-17-2004 11:34 AM

In a racecar form should always follow function, sometimes they just get lucky and it looks really cool. With the exception of the rear wing I think this car looks pretty cool...

I wouldn't draw any parallels between SCCA ProRally cars and WRC, there is just a bit (note sarcasm) of a gap in technology and level of competition there. I really hope Mitsubishi is competitive with this car but won't be holding my breath for an impressive debut. Looking for Ford and Citroen to lead the pack, hopefully Peugeot will choke with the new 307...
Whats the deal with the fake lights!
Fake lights are lighter (no pun intended)

Light pod covers over that area anyway so they are not needed
And as mentioned not too many night stages anymore
whtlegacy 01-17-2004 01:00 PM

i always thought night stages were really cool. it sucks that they don't do them anymore.
WRXedUSA 01-17-2004 04:31 PM

Doesnt look anything like a production car. That goes for the FocusWRC'03 as well.

I hope this isnt the beginning of a trend. :(
johnfelstead 01-17-2004 09:25 PM

And the Audi Quatro Sport did? It isnt a start of anything. :D
EatpussRex 01-17-2004 10:32 PM

Of course it's the start of something. It's the start of the decline of the WRC. It was good while it lasted.
WRXMaster 01-17-2004 10:52 PM

When I say fake lights........................... they have stickers! for the 2 in the middle! DONT USE STICKERS AS A LIGHT!!@!!!!! NASCAR DOES THAT!
Kitsune 01-17-2004 11:55 PM

The cars becoming full spec racers does not bother me at all, Group B was'nt exactly showroom derived. But the lack of night stages making the use of fake lights does say something very negative about WRC.
neverendingmods 01-18-2004 12:52 AM

Just pray Evo owners won't stick that wing on their street cars. Actually lets pray they do so we can make fun of them.
Watch, Subaru will follow.
Lightning Jack 01-18-2004 01:18 AM

Performace wing isn't alway look pretty..

Counting the days till I see an lancer OZ with one
mykrrrr 01-18-2004 09:28 AM

Lancer = EVO and since that's the new front fascia of the Lancer EVO IX that's the reason why they used it.

We'll see how it goes...it's definitely not the best looking of the bunch.

Chaste Automotive 01-18-2004 09:42 AM

the rear wing is placed where it is because it will transmit more downforce directly to the suspension since it is nearly on top of the rear pick up points. IF you saw the car in person you would have a different take on it, the act that it is so functional makes the car more attractive.
elgorey 01-18-2004 12:05 PM

interesting that they took the exact opposite approach of subaru.
Put the wing far foward, where subaru sticks it as far rearward as possible.
Both have their advantages and disadvantages. The mits should put down more downforce, but the Subaru creates less drag

Given the relative low speed and often sideways nature of WRC, I have always wondered about how helpful big wings really are

We will find out this season, but my money is on prodrive...
johnfelstead 01-18-2004 01:00 PM

I have seen the car in person just 7 days ago and it's butt ugly.
WRXedUSA 01-18-2004 01:20 PM

Well, here's SWRT's explaination:

http://www.subaru-msm.com/global/wrcar/1.html

I think the key word in the explaination is "Effeciently"

Chaste has a good point too.

Yah John, butt-ugly. My eyes are burning already and I havent seen it in person yet!
firedog25 01-18-2004 01:26 PM

Yes it's a weird looking car and I think that's the opinion of the majority... however... the majority also does not have the engineering education, windtunnel data, etc., etc. that the designers and the like have.
johnfelstead 01-18-2004 01:50 PM

but the majority do have eyes, and my god it hurts those. :D:lol:

The car has passive diffs, it's going to get its ugly butt kicked in the early stages of its development. With only 8 other works cars it will still score points though.

I was checking out the Monte Carlo entry last night, boy does that look thin, 47 cars! only 10 factory WRC spec cars. :(
WRXedUSA 01-18-2004 02:36 PM

^^ The absence of Skoda and Hyundai is pretty unnerving. 2 works car limit hurts aswell.

I was really thinking Skoda would have liked to run the Fabia in MonteCarlo and Sweden to evaluate it's snow abilities.

Oh well, I wonder what the Mitsu fans think.
