Kimi is ruling it in testing. Do you all think his suspension will hold up this race and he'll take it? ;)
| finnRex | 06-03-2005 09:57 PM |
I'm sure that Kimi's suspension will take it as long as he doesn't flat spot those darn tires;) BTW, I am a Kimi fan. As long as his car lasts, he'll be just fine.

Cant wait for the weekend. I'm gonna be at the race, for the 7th straight year. Should be quite a fun time. Cant wait cant wait cant wait!!!!!!!! I'll be sitting in Grandstand 33 friday, saturday, and sunday.
| artkevin | 06-06-2005 09:21 AM |
Thats one of the only things I like more about Indy compared to Canada. I like that on Friday and Saturday its all genral admission down here so you can get different vantage points and see were you want to sit next year. I Canada you have the same seats all 3 days, or at least I did.
| NC2.5RS | 06-06-2005 02:10 PM |
You do have the same seats if you buy the three day package things. You can get different seats for all three days if you so choose too. Also, there is general admission that lets you sit "lawn".

1) Sunblock, check... though, weather looks overcast for Friday and Saturday. Also picked up a dorky looking tan hat made of thin material to keep the sun off my head and out of my eyes...
2) No can do... will be wearing prescription eyeglasses and shooting photos.
3) Check. :)
4) Heheh... we're going to be near turns 5 and 6.
Thanks for the tips!

Earplugs??? How are you supposed to hear those heavenly V10's?
| artkevin | 06-06-2005 07:47 PM |
Don't get me wrong, I don't wear them. I also try not to wear the sunglasses becuase, as a painter, I am fasinated by the vibrant colors. I just know eeryone thats ever gone to a race with me gets sun sick ness and half deaf while I sit there and giggle every time a car goes by. I always give the warning though.

Just the top 1: Kimi, unless he throws it into the wall on the last corner :) I predict good things for DC again too, after another miserable qualifying session.

All of you going to Montreal, make sure you hang around the track for some of the support races. Looks like Star Mazda, Ferrari Challenge and Formula BMW are supporting this year.
The pits for the Ferrari guys used to be back behind the stands at the hairpin, and you could walk back there and watch the guys wrenching their cars.
There's an Orthopedic surgeon from Houston who is really a good driver. I think his name is Steve Earle. He won a couple of the times I've seen the challenge. Watched him punt another driver off at the hairpin a few years back. I think they were in 360's then, maybe 355's. Awesome to watch a guy put donuts on the side of his own $200k car.
Best of all, this is a time when you can walk the track without the F1 crowds and watch the action from almost any vantage point. Gives you a good idea of what grandstand you might want to sit in the following year.
Too bad the Toyota Atlantics arent going to support either Montreal or Indy. That's a great series. We saw Jacques Villeneuve win in the Atlantics back in maybe 1994 or so.

I remeber that 360 race. I was sitting in the stands thinkning how proud I was that another Texan was putting the pace down to a Ferrari and then bang! 2 Ferrari's in 4 directions. I was pissed at how much those guys played bumper cars with them.
As far as the Atlantic race, I am pulling for Kathrine Legge. I think she has real talent and I would like to see her move up to CART or F1 if the gods look favourably upon her.
My top 8 for the Canuck GP
1. JPM (He loves this track)
2. Webber (has to make up for that bone headed mistake 2 weeks ago)
3. Hiedfeld (has the form and looks like he has the car)
4. Fernando (off the pace)
5. Kimi (I have no idea why I put him down here)
6. Ralf (finally beats Trulli)
7. MS (as long as it doesn't rain)
8. Button (meh)
20. Jaqueces (1st one out)

The 360 Paddock rocks. Its on the north east side of the track and all those 360s are sick. I'll be heading up to Montreal for the 5th time in a row. Splurged and sitting in Gold 3 this year.
I can't say I've stayed to watch any of the support races though. The City of Montreal always calls too strongly.
Also, there is a great go-kart track we go to every year on saturday. It's always surprisingly empty for a race weekend. Its right across a bridge next to a walmart otherwise, i'd have to ask my resident brother where exactly it is.

I leave tomorrow morning for Montreal so here are my picks.
1.) K.Raikkonen
2.) M.Schumacher
3.) J.Montoya
4.) G.Fisichella
5.) N.Heidfeld
6.) R.Schumacher
7.) M.Webber
8.) R.Barrichello
BAR is going to continue to struggle IMO due to slightly lacking aero and less low end grunt out of the Honda lump. Nick will continue to show his superior racecraft to Webber and will finish ahead of him even though he will qualify behind him. Alonso will finally have some bad luck and will retire with a mechanical failure. Michael will spring back onto the podium in this race because it doesn't require as much from the tires. I will be in grandstand one all three days with my dad and we will be wearing our Williams team gear.

While I'm here...
1. Kimi- he'll come back with a vengence.
2. Webber- surprise of the podium.
3. Herr Schumacher(the big brother, of course)- Ferrari will have their game on, and Michael's skills will shine.
4. Trulli- half lap behind, but still a respectable showing.
5. Woobens- mishap in the beginning of the race will drop him a few spots.
6. Alonso- starting the race from the pits, fights all the way up to 6th.
7. DC- a good show for him here.
8. Montoya- still recovering from his "tennis" injury.

My picks:
P1 - Kimi (He's blazin'. Even if he doesn't get pole, the MP4-20 is just rulin' it.)
P2 - Alonso (Won the last one, so quali should be easy.)
P3 - Quick Nick (He's on a streak.)
P4 - Webber (He's a quali master, hopefully he'll nail it... hopefully Williams will get the start launch right...)
P5 - M. Schumi (Meh.)
P6 - JPM (Poor shoulder. Still a quick car.)
P7 - Jenson Button (For cryin' out loud. He's gotta score some points some time.)
P8 - Rubino (F2005's still a solid car. Betting that maybe Bridgestone gets it sorta right this time.)
I'm actually visiting Vancouver through the weekend, but I'm not going to make it to Montreal or the race. How ironic is that? Oh well.

Sometimes I don't think of Canada as a big country and just throw everything in one bin. Hehehehe. I dunno. I do that with the East Coast, too. Like New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, what have you. I had no idea how close or far away they are from each other. I just sort of consolidate everything from Canada and the East Coast without giving it much thought. :alien:

You definately need a hat if you are going to a GP thats the biggest thing plus bring a foldable chair/small cooler if you are sitting lawn so you can stand on it to get a vantage point over all the other people. Honestly it's the best seat in the house since you can see over everyone :D

I'm going to a wedding in Montreal this weekend so i just bought some general admission tickets for friday. I often watch F1 and it is my favorite type of racing even though I don't follow it too closely. I bet i'll be addicted after this. Here's Friday's schedule:
7 a.m. Site opens to the public
7:50 a.m. Star Mazda Series
free practice session (40 minutes)
8:45 a.m. Ferrari Challenge
free practice session (45 minutes)
9:45 a.m. Honda-Michelin Series
free practice session (30 minutes)
11 a.m. Formula 1
first free practice session (60 minutes)
12:45 p.m. Formula BMW

4:10 p.m. Honda-Michelin Series
qualifying session (30 minutes)
4:55 p.m. Formula BMW

5:25 p.m. End of activities
I want to get there around 7am but my bro doesn't want to go 11 when the F1 stuff starts. I'm worried that i'm not going to be able to see anything. What do you guys think?
Thanks

I'm a morning person, so my opinion may not count, but I think we got to Indy on Friday morning at around 7:30 when my wife and I went a few years ago. There was absolutely nothing going on at the track, but you could hear them warming up and tweaking the engines in the garage from the other side of circuit. That to me made it worth getting there early :D

Look at Kimi buried at 7th... was his lap clean?
And who is this Villeneuve charecter in the 4th row? ;)

Albers in 15th!
| Wr4wrX | 06-11-2005 08:55 PM |
Which is more surprising? Jenson landing pole or Albers getting P15? Props to both of 'em. :)

wow, the second Bridgestone is in 15th place. =)
| srf | 06-12-2005 02:19 PM |
It's really starting to hurt, listening to these announcers. There's a brand new wheel/tire in pit lane which the car has JUST entered and they're commenting about how it's the flat tire! Speaking of which... was that Montoya? Or Kimi? No it was Montoya... no Kimi!
| asquaredrex | 06-12-2005 02:20 PM |
Did Derek Daly just say "It appears as though Montoya got ****ed"?!?!?!?
| srf | 06-12-2005 02:24 PM |
I'm thinking they may have bleeped "screwed". Sounds like it started with "SC".
| srf | 06-12-2005 02:31 PM |
But they don't bleep: "HE IS COMING HARD, HE IS COMING HARD." hahaha.

My Pick6 points are going to be in the negative with all the weirdness of this race!

He said it another couple times and they didn't bleep him... hrm... only a few more laps of these clowns then off to install Ground Control in the rear. =)

Yea, I've been defending the CBS coverage the last two races because it has been decent...but today was horrible. No, they don't have launch control, no Ferrari didn't get a 1-2, no points don't go to 10th. There were lots of times where I was just yelling at the tv calling Daly a ****.

I really enjoyed that race. Can't say much for the CBS coverage... they repeat the same technical factoids every race, however some of their anecdotes (Schuey's 16 V-Rods) are amusing.
Now I have to find something to do for 3 hours till MotoGP!

Woot!!!! Kimi taking care of business(with some luck, of course), and Michael in 2nd. Woobens 3rd? Wild stuff man. Glad that Mr. Raikkonen was able to stay ahead of those pesky red cars;).
BTW, a good show of the Ferrari's. They came on strong today. Woobens coming from 20th to podium? Wild. Excellent show on Ferrari's part.
Now comes the tough race for McLaren. Can they keep ahead of Renault and Ferrari at Indy? Find out next week:).
Mika(Go Kimi!)

Blame Canada!

If there was no safety car at Canada, it would have been a much different race this year... The same thing can be said for almost every damned year F1 has run at Montreal!
I think FIA ought to pull the F1 race from Montreal, until they install some high cranes.
Think about it... Button lightly smacks the wall of champions, and comes to rest a 100 yards down the track. That is no surprise, since every year a few folks smack that wall, but for some reason, every year they do not have a crane to lift them out!
Every year at Montreal, folks stop on the side of the track, and they have to screw up the flow of an otherwise good F1 race by throwing the f*ing safety car on the track.
Enough! PULL THE GP @ MONTREAL!!!
F1 should only go back when they install some high lift cranes, or other method of safely removing dead cars during the race w/o relying only the effing safety car! Idiots!!

Montoya must hate running in North America...seriously. Indy-03, forced to do drive through at the worst possible time. Canada-04 DQ'ed. Indy-04, black flagged after running nearly the whole race for something that happened at the start, and now this strange red light in the pit lane under the safety car.
I suppose it was good that at least Montoya showed some pace this race compared to Kimi.

I think there were more driver errors here then in Monaco!
Whats the opinions on the Montoya black flag? If thats the rule (red light running = black flag) then I am for it. It seems thought that a team like Mclaren would have known not to release him or wait another lap. Sucks though. I was pulling for JPM and I would have actually called in right in the predictions.
See ya in Indy!

A Curious Race!

Both Renaults going out... Fisi runs more practice laps (just like every race weekend), and his car breaks during the race (just like most every other race)! That is the team orders right there!
Nice to see Alonso toss it off into the wall... Maybe now we won't have to listen to Briatore brag about how Alonso is better than every F1 driver in the paddock past, present, and future! Jeez! Give it a rest Flavio! We all saw Alonso fall apart last season... He must think people are dumb!
Sauber did well to have Massa in 4th! But Villi lost his wing, and was not able to pull back into the points. So their big rival, Red Bull got both drivers in the points behind Massa. That's a draw! Montreal's race day has never been friendly to the son of the track's namesake.
Trulli was podium in pocket when his brake disk failed. Coincidently, it was Toyota who also had both cars disqualified from Montreal previously for oversized brake cooling ducts. Maybe they need to steal some higher quality brake engineering from another team! ;)
Not sure why Ralfie was not running around w/Trullie up high in the points... His season is not going very well...
Rubens sure had an exciting race, starting from the back of the field, and landing on the podium! Nice to see Ferrari find the handle on that car!

Derek Daly is bollocks. He repeats, he repeats, he repeats everything he says! AND he still constantly interupts whoever he's commentating with. Sheheen may have bad infos, but Daly is an arrogant blabber mouth.
The real problem with the CBS coverage is that they feel they have to dumb it down for the common yankee viewer who maybe only knows about NASCAR.
CBS aside, this was an interesting race. Maybe Ferrari is on the mend?

Montoya, the red light runner!
Whats the opinions on the Montoya black flag? If thats the rule (red light running = black flag) then I am for it...
I'm surprised that the penalty was not a drive thru, or a stop and go. DQ does not seem justified.
Of course, going back to my earlier post, F1 should not go back to Montreal. Those hosers need to figure out how to run a race with out rolling their safety car. Safety cars should not be used, as a general rule of thumb, as it breaks the drama and flow of the race. But instead, Montreal has figured out some way to roll their damned safety car at least once, if not more, every damned time F1 comes to Montreal. I say no more F1 in Montreal to that is fixed!

I'm not surprised about the safety car w/ the number of attrition that was going on, but I think that wasn't a fair ruling on Montoya, and I'm not a Montoya supporter at all. Does this mean he gets a fresh engine next race?
| ingko | 06-12-2005 04:09 PM |
*Sigh* Montoya is screwed again...this time by the FIA and possibly McLaren. When was the last time during a race a red light in the pits has appeared?? Why would the leader of the race be forced to restart last?? Did McLaren tell him there was a red light?
I can't wait to hear what Montoya says. This guy just has the worst luck in the world. Go JPM! Win the USGP.
EDIT: Oh, this would never happen if it was the great schumacher in Monty's position.
