PM with the ZIP Code of your delivery address for a quote , we could include this L'Aunsport part with our August 48 States shipment; this would mean:
(1) Cheaper freight to destination
(2) + We handle all Customs clearances and fees, no State or Federal taxes
(3) No Bank transfer to Japan; we have a SoCal account in US$ and take PAYPAL

When I was just about to paint a aluminum roof black. Guy's who sells the Spec C Aluminum roof?
| ColesSTi | 07-11-2006 11:57 AM |
I was searching on here and my huge AOL favorite list. I wasn't able to find a site that sells the Aluminum roof so from the looks of the price its ether bang out the dents or order a steel roof from Subaru for $376.00. Ether way I want my roof to look like carbon or buy the carbon cap. Things are looking good, I love my Subaru. :)

Six hundred dollar's is going to be cheaper then a new roof I would just have to cover with carbon fiber with the roof dents popped out. Sounds good to me.

I'd love to what what all these roofs will look like after about 2 years of sun and rain and snow in some parts. It won't look to good unless you want to clear coat it every year. I've got tons of carbon on my subaru and my race car all from high quality suppiers and it still acts up cause of the resins. I guess if you want a high risk, high maintence , high pirce roof.
When I was just about to paint a aluminum roof black. Guy's who sells the Spec C Aluminum roof?
The Alloy roof panel is a Spec C item, but retrofitting this, ie, replacing the Steel roof, **properly** is beyond the ability of even most Body shops
Aluminum is a ** female dog ** to weld; and welding alloy to steel sheetmetal is an art that is only marginally less tricky than welding sheetmetal to rust ( and I speak from experience )
Engineering issues of electrolysis between steel and aluminum mean even a properly executed swap might quickly deteriorate; anyone that's familiar with aluminum boats will know what I'm talking about. All addressed adequately in the Spec C; but that's a factory build
There are plenty of ways of saving weight in your Impreza way less challenging
Graham

I bet it is hard I saw a picture of a roof getting replaced on a WRX on here. I don't think I will be doing the aluminum just going to try to get these dents knocked out and puttied etc. haberkorn thats funny that you said that because I was going to say I am going to have to put a couple layers of clear coat on my roof because im going to be cleaning it everyday.

i perfer alumi. cuz CF will probably fade .
| Kenji815 | 07-12-2006 02:32 AM |
probabily cheaper to try to wrap ur own sheet metal (same size as the roof) using carbon fiber cloth.

It would either have to clip on to the roof lip somehow around the doors , back window and windshield, or it could be resined to the existing roof. I would'nt want the carbon resin anywhere near my roof tho, it will destroy the roof if you ever decide u don't like it anymore.

Carbon fiber is really easy to work with, you can cut it easily with cutting wheels. And if your worried about the weaves unraveling use poly carbonate glue on the edges.

To be more specific, L'Aunsport offer:
(1) Solid C/F roof cover for Impreza without a Spec C vent
(2) C/F roof cover for the JDM Spec C, which has the rally vent standard, with vent hole already cut out by L'Aunsport
LAunsport don't offer the C/F roof with a Sunroof cutout
Any competent Body shop should be able to trim the part for a sunroof , if you ordered type (1)
Best!

Whats going on?
| Bad Wagon | 08-03-2006 12:53 PM |
I don't know if anyone has said this but I used to work in a body shop and I have replace the roof panel on a WRX and in my opinion you could do this safely with a good roll cage.
Remove the original roof and supports at the spot welds and then use a composite fusor. Its specially designed to bond composite materials to sanded metal. Add a seam sealer and put the gutter trim piece in. I can tell you from experience that the A, B, and C pillars only used the structural support of the roof in a roll over, other then that they are self supporting so no broken windows. The roof we removed weighed about 40 LBS with the supports. As long as you do the swap following ASME standards you'll be fine. It would be like replacing the door skin on a Camero.
Hope this helps.

hows the fitment on the CF roof?
| ColesSTi | 11-29-2006 11:21 PM |
Even with my damaged roof it was fitted pretty easy. The quailty is great. My steps where remove upper trim and drop head liner. Remove all the dents in the roof, clean with brake cleaner, lay carbon cap on roof trace out roof vent remove, Cut out vent with tarp inside, put Vaseline on the seam of weather strip, put silicone on the parameter of the carbon twice around and a "x" to join corers, lay on top and use a credit card to bead behind a plastic putty knife to lift the weather strips taping down by section. Install weather strip for roof vent drill the two holes for vent from the pre drilled spots on the carbon, flip vent flat on the roofs install bracket and bolts then hinge bolts. All I have to do is the headliner. Maybe there is a pattern on here somewhere?

I have to repaint my pillers they have a dent on both side I was thinking taking a piece of carbon fiber to the paint place have them stamp it and see if they cant make a color out of it. Dudley123 what where you thinking about? The one with the cutout or with out the vent cutout?

Well I just ordered it. The total was 774 shipped to my door. I ordered the one WIthout the Roof Scoop. Yea I just have to figure out a place to do my pillars now!! haha, I was going to do liek a 2 tone black on top and cut it at the body line, but if I can get sometype of CF design, or evn like a GOOD looking vinyl. WE could lay it down, and then Clear coat over the vinyl. That might not look TOO bad, but then again. I dunno., It might just look better if we paint them black. What u think?

You can use the metal part that the 7 x screws and inside cover fit to as a template for the headliner.... you'll figure out what I mean I'm sure
Did you put silicone sealer on the Roof cap, on the cars roof ( on both?)
Then gently pressed the roof cap down and wiped off any excess silicon ( ? )
If you did the install again, would you do anything differently? ( Specially as you did the Spec C roof vent as well, quite tricky! )
Looks like a GREAT job!!

The only thing I would do different is use different tape I used duct tape and since its foil its a little hard to remove. I don't regret anything everything went well. I would ether paint it black but keep it gloss if you like it to match the the bonnet and trunk hoods. My main concern is to have everything the same color from above. I remember painting R/C car bodies to look like carbon fiber by placing the tool box rubber mats on top, paint a fiber grey color then remove and paint black but since your not painting on the inside you would need a clear coat and paint less backwards, on another note translate?
The only thing I would do different is use different tape I used duct tape and since its foil its a little hard to remove. I don't regret anything everything went well. I would ether paint it black but keep it gloss if you like it to match the the bonnet and trunk hoods. My main concern is to have everything the same color from above. I remember painting R/C car bodies to look like carbon fiber by placing the tool box rubber mats on top, paint a fiber grey color then remove and paint black but since your not painting on the inside you would need a clear coat and paint less backwards, on another note translate? There's nothing you wouldn't expect: "Easier with 2-3 people", "Use adequate ventilation when using adhesive or silicon" and blah blah blah
Why bother? You've done a fine job without it
