I think you are safe buying from them (unless you call and talk to Warren, and rally comes up, then you probably will run out of phone minutes...)

They are skinny but I found them to be shorter in length. My 10's arrived late last week and I will be sending them back for an 11. They are pretty snug around the toes.

If anyone here is skeptical about purchasing these because they think they're narrow, don't be. I'm 6'4" and have WIDE feet. I mean I have VERY wide feet. When they arrived to my house I tried them on and they were a tight fit; after a day of wearing 'em they fit perfect!

Here's what I'd like to know...
How comfortable are these shoes, say, at an auto-x? Are these the type of shoes that can be worn all day, 6-7 hrs on your feet? Or, pretty much only a little while (ie: driving and an hour or so?)
Specifically... standing around. How good is the support, etc... when you have to run out on the course and re-set cones...

The shoes are built for exactly what you are looking for.
Driving shoes - that can be worn all day long (like in a rally).
All of the driving shoes feature DC's "Drop in Cushioning System"
It is a removeable foot bed that has a sorbothane heal block for impacts. (standing / walking)
http://www.sorbothane.com/
By having this insole it gives you a ton of "cush" in the heal - but still has a thin and flexible fore foot for great pedal feel.

We're talking up to 3-4 hours on your feet at a time with very little sitting down (in my case) walking and running with very little sitting at all. Auto-x = 6-8 hours per day on your feet with 6 minutes of seat time. Not really 'Like in a rally' at all... unless you mean 'spectating' at a rally?

At a rally you are doing a lot more than you seem to think.
First of all, drivers will be getting out of the car and standing around at many different points durring the day. They will possibly get out of the car before stages to stretch legs, have to get out of the car and or stand around a lot if they crash, will be standing around at service and or Parc (most Parcs are about an hour of just standing around). Then you have things like standing around waiting for stages to open, or if there is a delay or problem and service depending on the team.
Most rally drivers are on their feet not in the car between 2 and 5 hours a day, ideally they want shoes they can stand around in for a couple of hours, can walk and run in, can be in snow and or mud, have good traction, and be comfortable in all of those situations.
FWIW I don't consider many shoes comfortable to JUST stand in for 3-4 hours.
PS sounds like you want a miracle shoe. I'd be more inclined to wear two pairs of shoes if I was in your case instead of try to compromise

I'm literally on my feet 7-8 hrs, but 2-4 hrs at a time.
Looks like it'll still be 2 pairs of shoes for moi. I understand these are driving shoes. I was just wondering if they would meet my needs and go down to one pair shoes for the day.
Thanks.

Okay - so you stand more.
These shoes are better for ANY kind of standing / walking when compared to a "typical" driving shoe - ie, one that has NO padding in the bottom of the shoe.

You're right I don't really know about how much you stand around at autocrosses.
$40-50.00 for MAYBE 6 minutes of action with 3-6 hours of standing around does not sounds like a good time to me.
That said, I end up standing around at races more than you when I am in attendence at races. But this isn't about who stands more.

That's why I stopped doing it. Except it was more like $25-35 for 3 40-60 second runs.
One good way to limit your cone-shagging liabilities and make time go by faster is to volunteer for one of the event-coordination jobs, or learn how to operate timing equipment, etc. I used to volunteer to be Chief of Workers because a) it was usually one of the last positions to fill, and b) I didn't like shagging cones, and 3) it ensured that I would never be working and then running. I could sit in my little folding canvas chair by the registration desks during registration. Then walk the course a few times before the driver's meeting. Check people in at the timing van before each run group. Then during runs I could just chill back and visualize what I was going to have to do in the car during my run group.

The Pro-specs fit very true to other DC shoes and they are slimmer width-wise. The leather is nice and soft in the toe area so they break in quick. I've ran these in a few rally-x events and they are super comfy.

Apparently, you'd spend less time standing around at one of them than you'd spend at an autocross.

As a retail buyer/sales associate for a skate shop I may be able to shed some light on the fitment debate (or make it more confusing...) We are a skate/snow /wake store so we will not be getting these shoes, but if they are fitting the same then I can tell you this... DC's tend to have a pretty minimal heal cup in their new styles (ie. the pure and the pride); however, these look more like they have an older style heal cup (well padded), good news if you are buying them online because if they are running a bit too big then they shouldn't have crazy heal lift. that being said, I tend to fit into dc's about a half size bigger than I would say, etnies. so for examples sake, I have a long and narrow foot. on a shoe scale I size up to an 11 but usually wear a 10.5, but In dc's I wear an 11. this is pretty consistent with the size I wear in Nike which most will agree, run small. In short DC's fit pretty true to size. erroring towards a slightly larger size may be a good idea, but you don't want the shoes to feel too loose either.
As for the whole standing debate... they are using the same kind of padding they have in their skate shoes. if you have seen any skateboarding on television you should know skateboarders are usually jumping down things that would send most to the hospital. if shoes are not well padded in the heel then your going to have horrible heel bruises or a broken heel. they are meant to take a whole lot more abuse than just standing at the track can dish out. The majority of shoes we sell are to non skateboarders because they are simply the most comfortable and durable shoes you can buy. skateboarding put shoes through more abuse than most would ever believe, I'm sure their R&D team wouldn't let these slip through the cracks.
We are a skate/snow /wake store so we will not be getting these shoes,
First off - Why Not?
I own a Snow/Skate/Wake store - and have ordered and already sold MANY of these shoes. I have even reordered on the Chicane - cleaning out the Canadian warehouse of all that was left. The Pro Spec should show up in the store today - and I have many pre-orders for them.
A little bit of effort in these shoes is paying off. Tell your buyer / owner to get "on it" and order some.
As to the fit issues - yes - they fit like DC's - One would expect this since they use the same lasts to make the shoes, and yse - they do fit a tiny bit smaller than other 'skate' shoes - (normally a 10.5 - MAYBE an 11 in DC's)
Best bet is to go to a store that did order them and try some on.

Here's a small section of the DC site dedicated to the driving shoes:

The emag is pretty good, and the video explains the details of the shoe pretty well (although I can barely talk in that thing...it was shot just after the X Games last year and I was exhausted  ).

What features make the Chicanes driving shoes as opposed to motorsports inspired normal shoes? My Piloti prototipos have a spherical heel, are narrow, have a relatively thin sole for good pedal feel and have reinforcing in the heel-toe area. The Chicanes look like they have a bit of a rounded heel, but I can't see much else that makes them a "driving" shoe.

I've had my Chicane's for about a month now and they're awesome! After about two days of break-in they fit perfect! I could never get piloti's or puma's because my feet are WIDE and I'm 6'4". These shoes are very snug and fit like their others. When I drive on some twisties I heel-toe with these shoes and man I love the hard sole and good pedal feel.
Ken, could you comment on how adaptable these are in regard to heel-toeing? Ive had nothing but good feel and comfort. When you were developing these shoes did you consider heel-toe shifting and aggressive feet maneuvers? :)

Ken, bump for a reply (post #112). :)
Do you think you you will be making race gloves for people that do road courses, auto-x's, and/or track events?

Yes, we did consider heel-toeing. I drive tarmac when I can (good practice in between the rallies), and I tested the Pro Specs as much as I could in those conditions. They worked great. Tanner Foust even tested them out for rally and drift last year and the feedback I got from him was very positive.
The Chicane's are the same basic shoe (as the Pro Spec) without the high-top portion, so they should work well also (maybe not as snug because they are intended to be more of a casual shoe).

I am not trying to use scare tactics to sell shoes...but, there is limited supply with these shoes. There was only approx. 600 pairs of each made for world wide distribution.
The Pro Specs will be made again (and in more colors), but they will not be back in stock for several months after the current stock sells out.
The Gumball Chicanes will never be made again. There will be other colors (non-Gumball related), but those camo ones are very limited and once they are gone, that's it.
Anyway...just mentioning this because we are already selling out of certain sizes and colors in the DC online store (and our retailers have sold them fast also). So...if you want them, get them soon, or they probably won't be available.
