I think the homologation would be fine, if it was only for one year. Three years is rediculous. Each team shows up at the start of a year with their new engine design and that's what they have to run for the year.
The rev limiting I am against, as I am against the FIA ECU that will be standardized. F1 is about the top of vehicle technology. If they want to limit the speed of the cars then limit the engine size. That's all you need to do. 1 liter turbo v6's would be pretty awesome. If they feel the need to slow them down in corners then limit the tire width.
I'd like to see Kimi win this one, but I don't think it's going to happen. I see Michael winning with Alonso not finishing the race due to mechanical problems.

Don't expect to see turbos in F1 again unless they limit the size of the turbo as well. Forced induction in F1 is going to equate to over 1000hp per liter. Expect to see things stay NA.

.8 liter turbo'd motors would be pretty fuel efficient, I'd think :)
It gives me great joy to see Imola mercifully pulled from the F1 calendar! The Tamburello chicanes are just horrible... and the Villeneuve chicane going down into Tosa are even worse!
I agree 100% about the Villenueve chicane, but with Tamburello the circuit owners had no other choice. The needed to slow that corner and because of the location of the river there was no room to add runoff.
Oh the the Renaults aren't so much "detuned". Fisi is getting a new spec engine while Fernando is sticking with the tried and true spec.

Raikonnen leads the way in first practice.
Raikkonen quickest in practice 1 - Brazil
By Tim Collings Friday, October 20th 2006, 15:00 GMT
Kimi Raikkonen topped the times for McLaren-Mercedes in Friday morning's opening free practice for Sunday's Brazilian Grand Prix.
The Finn, in his final race for the team before he joins Ferrari, clocked a best time of 1:13.764 seconds to outpace nearest rival Briton Anthony Davidson in a Honda.
Both Ferraris, driven by retirement-bound Michael Schumacher and his teammate Brazilian Felipe Massa, took no part in the session, nor did both Williams cars driven by Australian Mark Webber and German-born Nico Rosberg.
Defending world champion and current leader Fernando Alonso and his Renault teammate Italian Giancarlo Fisichella both did just one installation lap apiece.
Alonso leads the title race by 10 points and needs to score just one to clinch his second drivers' crown, while Schumacher can only win the title if he wins on Sunday and Alonso fails to score.
The session began in cool and overcast conditions, but without any of the heavy rain that had left much of Sao Paulo strewn with puddles for the previous 48 hours. The air temperature was 20 degrees Celsius and the track temperature was 27 degrees.
Crowds of fans and souvenir-salespeople created a hubbub outside the main entrance before the action began with the familiar men leading the way. Austrian Alexander Wurz, for Williams, was soon out on the track and soon, also, at the top of the laptimes.
Wurz, however, was overhauled after 20 minutes by Briton Davidson in his Honda, the test and reserve driver leading the way ahead of German teenager Sebastien Vettel who once again impressed quickly in his BMW Sauber.
After half an hour, it was Davidson, Vettel and Wurz at the top and there was no sign of any of the Ferrari or Renault drivers venturing out to join the fray.
There were few incidents at all before Alonso stirred increased interest when he went out on an installations lap with seven minutes of the hour remaining. His Renault teammate Fisichella also did one lap.
Ernesto Viso and Jarno Trulli both spun and continued as the pace increased in the final minutes, but there was no sign of activity in the Ferrari garage where Michael Schumacher, in his final Grand Prix, appeared to wait patiently, but without doing a lap.
Renault swap Alonso's engines
Friday, October 20th 2006, 15:23 GMT
The Renault team have made a last-minute change of engines in Fernando Alonso's car ahead of this weekend's Brazilian Grand Prix.
After dyno tests at the Viry factory, the team decided to switch Alonso's planned engine for the one in the spare car.
The engine the world champion will use is still the D5 specification, but has slightly different parts that the team preferred to go with.
As the change was done before the first practice there is no penalty.
Alonso, who needs just one points to become world champion again, completed just an installation lap in practice and set not times.
Tamburello chicanes & Renault's Motors

It is the design and implementation of the chicane @ Tamburello which could be much better to my amateur eyes.
Oh the the Renaults aren't so much "detuned". Fisi is getting a new spec engine while Fernando is sticking with the tried and true spec.
By "detuned" I'm only thinking of the on-board, and trackside ecu tuning, and turning down the revs, etc.
I could be wrong here, but my thinking is that Renault has everything to lose if they push both motors hard, and blow one, or both, of them up. Their chassis is cream of the crop, as is their lead driver, so they could turn down the revs a bit, baby the motor some during the race, and still finish well up in the points. Just speculating as to Renault's weekend strategy...

Wurz & Bridgestone Fastest in 2nd Friday Practice

Check out these 2nd session practice times! Of the 3rd drivers, the fastest was Wurz, who is B'Stone's lead Friday 3rd driver. The fastest of the racing drivers was Trulli in his B'Stone shod Toyota just ahead of Button's Honda.
So, of course, reading Friday practice times is as scientific as reading tea-leaves, but...
It is worth noting that the worst thing that could happen for Renault, tire-wise, is for the B'Stone's to be significantly faster in qualifying and race pace, because it would result in two things: First, it would force Renault to run their motors at higher levels for longer periods of time, and second it would bring Toyota up high into the points.
That probably won't happen (that is B'Stones being superior in qual and race pace), but something to keep in mind.

Gun men shoot up Toyota team!

Yikes!
SAO PAULO, Brazil (AP) Four members of the Toyota Formula One team were ambushed Friday by a group of gunmen near the Interlagos circuit in Brazil, but no one was injured.
"About 20 teenagers stopped us and other cars as we left the track Friday afternoon," Toyota spokeswoman Fernanda Villas-Boas said Saturday. "Some people tried to escape and they started shooting, we lowered our heads and were able to flee. Thankfully nothing more serious happened."
The ambush occurred about 1.8 miles away from the track on the Interlagos Avenue, the main road used by teams and drivers to access the circuit.
Villas-Boas was among members of the Toyota team in the car.
"One of them pointed the gun to my head and tried breaking the window of the car with his foot," she said. "No one was hurt, but everybody was really upset afterward."
Team drivers Ralf Schumacher and Jarno Trulli were not present. Armed robberies are not uncommon in Sao Paulo, a city of more than 12 million people.
"We have to make it clear this was not related to the Brazilian Grand Prix, they didn't know we were with Toyota," Villas-Boas said.
The Brazilian GP takes place Sunday, with the title still undecided between seven-time champion Michael Schumacher of Ferrari and Fernando Alonso or Renault.
Alonso has a 10-point lead and can clinch the title his second consecutive by finishing eighth or better. Schumacher must win the race and hope Alonso fails to earn any points.

These were titled your "worst picks"???? I hope not, as the first six of them are exactly the same as mine...

I'm not saying you made poor picks... At least you have a good B'Stone runner, Webber in your picks. My picks were poor because I didn't put a Toyota in them, and Trulli is likely to do well (if the B'Stones are fast for Williams and Toyota, and it turns they are pretty good). So... my picks suck, but I've been sucking all season. My only pleasure is offer a box of Krispy Kreme donuts to the winner! (Old skool!) :D

Engines Key to Championship Showdown?

This contains a little bit of insight on Ferrari's engine failures, as well as how they use the low, medium, and high rev limits during the weekend.
Adam Cooper, RACER Magazine Sao Paulo, Brazil 10/21/2006
Renault and Ferrari are both entering Sundays title showdown with doubts about engine reliability, despite the fact that all four drivers in the two teams start this weekend with new engines that have to run only one meeting.
Ferrari has suffered two high-profile failures, with Felipe Massa in practice in China, and Michael Schumacher in the race in Japan. Both were related to valves, but were different problems.
Worryingly for Ferrari, the engine in Robert Doornboss Red Bull had a failure on Friday which he reported was similar to that in Massas Shanghai engine. All three failures occurred in engine that were on their second weekend and thus had done a relatively high number of laps.
The Suzuka problem was a one off, we hope, said Ross Brawn. And it was a failure of the top end of a valve where it connects to the collets around the pneumatic piston; nothing weve seen before, so weve been super-vigilant we always are but super vigilant on the build of these engines to try and make sure that we can avoid the problem occurring again, but we dont have a complete explanation for what happened.
Both teams have the capacity to use higher revs for longer on their one-race engines, but the concerns may force them to be more conservative than planned.
Over the life of two race engines, we have a certain number of higher rev laps you can do, and they are generally spread over two races, said Brawn. I think all of us run low revs in practice, run medium revs in a race and then high revs in qualifying, and occasionally higher revs in a race if you need them. Of course, having a one race engine, those higher revs are available over one race instead of two, so if we need to, theres a greater opportunity to run revs. We wont do it unless we have to and weve always taken that approach: you dont use the revs unless you have to but we know theyre there if we need them.
Meanwhile, Fernando Alonso suffered an expensive failure in Monza, but the team had thought that the problems were behind them until a failure on the dyno on Thursday. It was discovered that the offending part came from a batch that also provided bits for the engine that was in Alonsos car, which had been the T-car engine back in Japan.
As a precaution it was decided to give the Spaniard a newer but identical engine that had been fitted in the T-car for Brazil. Since the switch happened before practice started, there was no grid penalty. Alonso is using a slightly more conservative spec than Giancarlo Fisichella.
Weve actually got two different specs of engines in the car, said Renaults Pat Symonds. Giancarlo has got an E-spec and Fernando a D5-spec. The E-spec is slightly better but its really a very small difference. Our approach is that the performance is there, we will use it if we need to, we wont use it if we dont need to, and this really is our approach every weekend.
I didn't realize Speed was doing a same day delay with quali..opened this thread and BAM!
Next season there's going to be a zero tolerance rule for posting spoilers, at least in the F1 threads!

Just as a rule fo thumb I don't click ANYTHING F1 until I have seen that day's action. It sucks when you travel though.

How can Ferrari guard against a freak fuel pump failer???
You guys take it too far. MS reliability has been GREAT all year. You can't expect them never to have a failure. They obviously have a VERY reliable engine, they could only have expected it to stay that way.
And teh fuel-pump, that is a freak failure that you never see....again, how is that their fault???

Fisi made contact with his right front endplate to Michael's left rear tire after Michael turned down into him on T1; Michael had the position, but Fisi didn't budge.
